REHOMED – Amazing Ruby – Airedale Terrier / Border Collie Mix – Denver

Ruby has found her forever family in Denver with Brittany and her husband. They have a nice, big fenced back yard, and tons of time to spend with this very sweet and unique girl. Congratulations, Ruby and family! We can’t wait to receive some photos!

Here is how our rehoming team presented Ruby to locate her new home in just 2 weeks.

While she looks very much like a Black German Shepherd or Belgian Shepherd, Ruby is actually a gorgeous mix of Airedale Terrier and Border Collie. This very devoted 5 year old female dog is such an intelligent, affectionate and obedient companion. She has had all of her vet care done up to date; she is spayed, Microchipped and Fully vaccinated. She has had lots of training, too – she is house broken, leash trained and obedience trained.

Ruby loves to be active, and needs a good bit of daily exercise to keep her happy and healthy. She gets along really well with other dogs, with one exception: yappy little dogs who challenge her when she is on her leash. That she will not abide, and has snapped at one such dog when she was being walked by her owner. This is something that her new owners will need to be wary of.

Ruby loves children, as long as they respect dogs and do not poke eyes, pull ears and tail, or body-slam her. Ideally, kids older than 8 would be her preference. She is very devoted to her humans, and loves to adhere to a solid routine, particularly where her feeding and potty schedule are concerned.

Ruby is being rehomed by her owner, who is absolutely heartbroken to have to make this very difficult decision to find her a new home. Unfortunately, her significant other is extremely allergic to Ruby, and is unable to manage living in the same environment. Ruby’s owner is hoping to find Ruby and new home where she will be cherished as much as she is now, and given the best of care, exercise and companionship for the rest of her life.

The ideal home for Ruby will be with active people who have lots of time to spend with her. She needs a securely fenced back yard to play in, and folks who are able to take her out every day for a good long walk or run. She would love some older children to play with, and the company of another dog (as long as the dog is not small and yappy!).

Ruby’s owner would love to be able to keep in touch with her once she is placed in her new home, and would even welcome the opportunity to visit or pet sit for her new family. Hopefully that would be OK with you.

Personality

Ruby is eager to please, hyper when she’s been alone, cuddly and very loving. She’s loyal, a great watchdog and very obedient. She knows sit, stay, come, wait, leave it, down, off, dance, shake, heel commands. She’s house trained and used to being the pet of a nurse, so 12 hours is no big deal for her to hold it. She had separation anxiety and ptsd when I got her, but has not exhibited any signs of those in over 4 years.

Reason For Rehoming

My significant other is severely allergic to Ruby, and we end up spending a lot of time away from her because of that. I will be moving in with him in August, and cannot take her.
