Dex is a healthy, neutered male Pointer mix, aged 4. This delightful dog is as devoted as a dog can be. As sweet as he is smart, this handsome boy could teach people a few things about loyalty! He’s got a great sense of humor, too, and always smiles at your jokes – even the lame ones!

Pointer mix for adoption

Dex is not a good choice for families with children younger than 10. However, he is a wonderful family companion who makes everyone in the home feel special. He has shown a capacity for empathy, and is great at cheering you up when you are down in the dumps.

Being a Pointer mix, Dex is very intelligent and likes to be active. He loves to fetch his beloved ball, play with his toys (of which he has many), go swimming, play hide and seek. He also loves hiking and going on long walks. He also likes to kick back at the end of the day, and is a great foot warmer and snuggle buddy.

Dex is mostly black, and has the neatest spotted socks and chest (From the Pointer side of the family). He likely has Labrador Retriever in his heritage as well, and would excel as a sporting companion/retriever.

He’s a fairly big boy at 65 pounds, but is very fit and healthy.

Dex is being rehomed by his owners, who love him very much and are heartbroken to have to make this very difficult decision. With increasing job demands, both owners have less and less time to spend with Dex, and he spends far too much time home by himself. They are dearly hoping to find him a loving home with active people who would love a canine companion to enjoy the outdoors (and indoors) with them. He would like a home with people who have time to spend with him, so that he is not alone all day. A securely fenced back yard to play and sunbathe in are also on his “wish list”.

If you would like to consider offering Dex the home he deserves, please get in touch with Debbie Moore at (888) 720-3322, or fill out our “Request to Meet a Pet” form. Once received, we’ll contact you to discuss this beautiful dog, and arrange for a convenient time for you to meet him, along with his owners, in their home.

There is a $75 adoption processing fee to adopt Dex. All of his supplies will be included.

4. Sense of humor.
6. How is always makes me smile.

Dex’s Current Home Environment

He is mostly by himself inside the house during the day, as me and my husband work all the time. When we are home and it’s not raining, Dex is outside sun bathing. He loves to be in the same room as we are so he will follow us around. He sleeps in his bed in our bedroom.

Dex’s Current Family:

I adopted Dex when he was 10 months old from a shelter. My husband and I recently got married and purchased a home with what we thought was enough space for him. After the move and wedding, I got a new job which requires me to be gone longer. We spend as much time together as possible, but it’s simply not enough for him.

Dex’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

He loves to eat! We give him grain free food and treats, usually Blue Buffalo. We soften the food so we can put it in his bones and freeze it. He loves that. His favorite activities are: fetch, hide and seek, swimming and hiking. He absolutely loves squeaky toys and will pull out the squeaker toy in a short period of time. He also loves ropes, bones and tennis balls.

Cute Dex Story:

It’s hard to just choose one, but I will just explain one that I think is sweet. My mother was in town for the weekend and staying in our home. She had just lost her cat of 12 years and of course was grieving. Dex realized this and walked up to her while she was sitting and placed a toy in her lap. He simply walked away, stuck his head into his toy box and grabbed another toy to place in her lap. He continued to do this with a few of his favorite toys and then just laid down on the floor next to her. He was giving her the things that make him happy to cheer her up. It was incredibly touching.

Why is Dex Being Rehomed?

My husband and I work far from home and are gone at least 10 hours a day. Our careers are taking off, requiring us to be at work longer than that. He simply deserves more than what we are able to give him.

Dex’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

We are looking for a home with no children, a yard big enough for him to run around in and an all around loving family. We are heartbroken to give him up, so we want to ensure he goes into a family that has plenty of time and space for his needs.
