We feed Lux once a day. We feed him Fromm with a spoonful of coconut oil on top.
Lux is very loyal, smart, and protective. He is also socially awkward and anxious in new situations, places, and with new people. He is fearful of children and strangers that come into the home. This, coupled with his size, makes it hard for him to be in a home with small children, especially when we have guests over.
He will bark and show teeth if he feels very threatened. If someone is calm enough during the initial greeting, it usually takes Lux about 5 minutes to warm up and roll over to get his belly rubbed. But, like most dogs, he picks up on others’ anxiety.
He loves to run, chase squirrels and rabbits, and get exercise. He can sit, lay, place, come, and stay. He is healthy, handsome, and wants tons of love if he is comfortable with you. He is a big baby.
Lux would do very well in a home with some land, where he could run and get exercise. In a quieter space with not many people coming or going (or at least a home where he would have his own space to roam and not have to be in the midst of commotion).
He often feels like he needs to protect his space and owners. He would do well with adults (no kids and probably no other pets). When in peaceful situations, he thrives. He will be loyal to a loving new owner who understands his breed.
Why is Lux Being Rehomed?
Sadly, Lux’s demeanor is not ideal for a home with small children. He has never done anything to harm our one year old daughter, but he has been very protective of toys and food in certain moments and we constantly have to watch him around her.
He loves her, but he can be easily spooked. We are expecting another child, and constantly making sure that two children don’t tug at him or spook him seems like a fruitless endeavor with them all in the same space.
We also cannot have other children over with him in the home. We’ve moved to Nashville and bought a home since having our daughter. With all the change in lifestyle, Lux has gotten less exercise (although he has a backyard to run and play in, but he used to run miles on open land) and also is in the home more often.
We also have people coming and going from our home often, so this is making his anxiety worse. We have gotten additional training for him and continue to give him love and do the best we can, but we think he would thrive in a calmer environment.
