ADOPTED Labrador Retriever – Whippet Mix in Beaufort SC

Amazing 18 month old male Labrador Retriever / Whippet mix for adoption to loving home near Beaufort, South Carolina. Loxley is so loveable! He weighs about 45 pounds and is really good with older children and larger dogs. Loxley has been neutered, is up to date on shots and very healthy. He is perfectly house broken. Please offer him the loving home he deserves today.

Hi, My name is Loxley!

Do you have a lot of energy? Like to be doing stuff all the time? Me too!

I’m a beautiful ball of energy and fun. I’m still in my “puppy phase” (Labs take a full 2 years to mature), so I am goofy and always on the go. I love to meet new people and dogs, and am a bit on the relentless side when it comes to wanting to engage everyone in play. I want to play – all the time – every day.

I do not have an aggressive bone in my body, but the Whippet side of me makes me want to chase things that are smaller than me. That means cats, Chihuahuas and other small breeds, small children, birds, the vacuum cleaner, my shadow… you get the idea!

I just love to have fun. Life is wonderful! I want everyone I meet to know that, and join me in the celebration!!

Frankly, I have a lot more energy than they do, and I am more dog than they can handle. I’m not going to be like this forever, though. I’ll settle down as I get older. Obedience classes would go a long way towards helping me become a more sensible Loxley.

That said, I am an amazing boy. I am so filled with love and devotion. I love to nap on top of my owners – and sleep with them at night (under the covers, no less!)  I can help you rediscover your “joie de vivre”, help you get in shape, and keep your kids busy throwing the ball for me.

I also love to play “hide and seek” with you. It’s a blast!

Please offer me the loving home I need and deserve. I can’t wait to meet you and show you how exciting life can be with a dog like me! I am going to wiggle my way into your heart!

Love and licks,
Loxley

Loxley’s Personality

Loxley is always excited to meet new people, he’s never skittish or aggressive. He just automatically wants to play.
Loxley is so so soooooo sweet. He likes to lay on top of me for naps on the couch and loves to be under the covers with me at night. He never leaves my side.
Loxley likes to play hide and seek!! He’ll chase you around the house and search for you if you hide behind a door or in a closet. Once he finds you, he’ll sit down and wait for you to pop out and then spin in circles he’s so happy to see you!

Loxley’s Current Home Environment

My husband and I are homebodies. When we do go out, it’s to a movie or a trip to a mall. Unfortunately for Loxley, he can’t go with us as he’s too hyper even for dog friendly locations. As it is, he ends up spending a few hours every weekend in his crate. We have no children and no other pets. We also, unfortunately, don’t have a large backyard or any fenced in area without driving to the local dog-park. This is really a shame, because Loxley LOVES to run.

Loxley’s Current Family:

Our immediate family is just my husband and I. However, we do have very close friends who won’t come over anymore because Loxley is too hyper. When visiting my family, or my husband’s, we always have to board Loxley as they also don’t like having him around. He’s never been aggressive, he’s just too hyper around anyone other than my husband and I, and it makes our families uncomfortable and on edge. Things as they are, we don’t get to see our families much anymore.

Loxley’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Loxley loves elk antlers and squeaky toys. He especially loves long toys, like this caterpillar with multiple sections and each one has its own squeaker. He loves running free at the dog park and likes to go in the lake but always hops back out pretty quickly. He likes his morning and evening walks around our neighborhood and playing with sticks in our yard. We use the small or medium Milkbone treats for him and he loves them. Sometimes he’ll play with his treats by throwing them up in the air before catching and eating them. We try not to give him any human food, but he does love cheese and pepperoni and I just can’t deny him when he looks up at me so cutely.

Why is Loxley Being Rehomed?

My husband and I are wanting to start a family and Loxley is NOT good with anything smaller than he is. Children, dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, if it’s smaller than he is, he thinks it’s a toy and will not leave it alone or stop trying to chew it apart. He has entirely too much energy for us. When we adopted him as a puppy, we thought he was just a lab and only recently discovered he’s also part whippet, which helps explain the crazy energy level a little. Two walks a day (minimum), trips to the dog park, playing outside for at least half an hour every time I take him to go potty, lots of playing inside, nothing ever calms him down. We can’t exhaust him. Once there’s company other than my husband and I, he is relentless with them. They could be over for days at a time and he will never stop acting like they just came through the door. We love him, we just can’t handle him.

Loxley’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Loxley needs to be with an outdoorsy family. Preferably children at least 10 or older who like to play and don’t mind a messy, clingy dog. He needs high energy and adventurous people whose energy can match his. No cats or birds or rabbits. He is ok with other dogs as long as they’re bigger than he is. No pugs or dachshunds or yorkies or korgis or puppies like that. Any dog would have to be ok with high energy and constant playing from Loxley. He’s a sweetheart, he just never stops.
