Maine Coon Mix Cat For Adoption in Pittsburgh

Hi, My name is Millie!

Maine coon mix cat for adoption in pittsburgh

Are you looking for the most gorgeous cat in the Pittsburgh area? I am a long haired tortie cat, part Maine Coon. I am just 3 years old and very healthy. I have been spayed, am up to date on my shots. I will be rehomed with all my stuff, including litter box, litter, Feliway and diffusers, treats, food, scratchpad, toys, a brush and bowls. I live in Pittsburgh, PA.

I am probably one of the most beautiful cats around. I have an incredible Maine Coon tail, gorgeous Tortoiseshell markings and light green eyes, that my owner thinks are like those of an owl.

I have an very sweet, loving personality, and enjoy cuddling up with my owner. I am OK being picked up and am very gentle with my claws.

Here is what my owner loves the most about me:

1) I love how gentle she is with her claws, even if I rub her belly or pick her up.
2) I love how she looks at me with her big “owl eyes.”
3) I love how sweet she can be. How she will sleep on the bed near me. Once when I got home from a trip, I woke up with Millie curled up next to me.
4) She is very beautiful and knows it, loving to show it off, especially her fancy tail.
5) I love how she is great at keeping company. She likes to be in the same room as her people, even if she’s not being affectionate.

I’m being rehomed by my foster mom. She is sad to have to look for a loving home for me, but with 5 cat already in her home, it is just not a good environment for me. I am one of those kitties that prefers to have my humans all to myself. Other cats make me feel nervous and territorial. This has resulted in some accidents outside the litter box. I just don’t feel safe doing my business, and feel the need to leave my smell so that other cats know I belong here. This will not be an issue once I feel safe and sound in a home where other cats will not be around.

I would prefer a quiet, no other pets home, with a single or couple who will make me feel special and cherished.  I am looking for a home with people who have lots of time to spend with me.  I am very sociable and human-oriented. I do need a predictable environment to feel safe and happy.

I am about the most loving lap warmer you will find. Please offer me the loving home I deserve today. I can’t wait to purr my way into your heart.

Millie’s Current Home Environment

Millie was recently living with a single owner (“daddy”) in a three-bedroom town house. She enjoys looking out of windows at birds and other things outside, playing, and eating her tuna treats! Her previous owner currently is frequently out of town or not home during the day and is unable to give her the attention that she needs. She is back with her mommy owner, and is locked up in a room because she is terrified of the other cats, even her kitty mom and sister.

Millie’s Current Family:

My husband and I had three cats of our own when Zeus (Millie’s mother) adopted us. She was pregnant, and when Millie and her sibling were 8 weeks old, Millie’s mother brought her to us. We worked on socializing the kittens and eventually brought them inside. Millie has difficulty getting along with the other animals. She was not overly aggressive, but my older pets were very intimidated by Millie. She would chase them, and it became a problem. When my husband and I split up, the problem worsened to where my smallest elderly cat only felt safe on the kitchen table because Millie would chase her, and my other cats would run away from Millie. My ex decided to take Millie in, as he had no other animals. Millie did fine with him for awhile, but as he became more busy and went on trips over the summer, she had some adjustment issues. She is now back with me, and I have her in a room to isolate her from the other cats in the home.

Millie’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

She loves to play with balls and strings. She loves to look outside the windows. She is an avid birdwatcher. She can also play independently. She enjoys being petted, if it’s her idea. She enjoys being talked and sung to. She loves her people. She likes running under the bed and attacking the string from various locations. You never know where she will appear next! She also enjoys being brushed and she takes meticulous care of her claws to keep them in razor sharp condition on her scratchpad only. She is a great mouser cat, if one ever gets into the house. She likes eating tuna and salmon. She enjoys Friskies wet food and also eats dry food. She is currently being free fed dry food and gets moist as supplemental.

Cute Millie Story:

After Millie was spayed, I kept her in a room in my basement so that she did not climb around and hurt herself after her surgery. Well, my husband ran the vacuum cleaner and it must have scared her because she got stuck between the top part of the wall and a floorboard joist. There was just one area in the wall that dipped slightly, and I could not, for the life of me get her to go to it for me to pull her down and out from the ceiling. I tried everything and my friend even came over. We tried encouraging her with broom handles, enticing her with food, and toys. Nothing worked for hours. Finally, I got a can of food, and instead of trying to entice her with it, I tricked her into backing up into the spot that I needed her to be so I could yank her down (she backed up into it as she backed away from the food). I was sweaty and crying tears of joy by the time I finally had her.

Why is Millie Being Rehomed?

Millie is currently not in an environment that helps her to thrive. My ex took her in, but he is gone from home in trips much of the time and Millie needs more love and attention than he has time to give. She began peeing at his house, so he gave her back to me.

When Millie is with me, I have to split my attention between her and 5 other cats, and this is also not a good fit. She was not previously overly aggressive with my other animals, but they are very timid and scared of Millie. She was, unfortunately, a bit of a bully with other kitties. Since she has been back with me she hisses and runs under the bed in her room when other cats approach the baby gate. She is even fearful of her kitty mom and sister, even though none of the cats have hissed at her. It is very sad. It does not appear that she will be able to integrate back into my home.

Millie’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Someone who has much time, is home for a good part of the day, and is able to give Millie the love, affection, and attention she needs. Someone who has no children or other animals. Millie does not do well with other animals and would thrive the most in a home where she is the only animal. Someone who is familiar with cats, cat behavior, and is patient with Millie. Millie does not do well with transitions, and would do best with someone who has a lot of patience for her quirks. I would also prefer someone who would be willing to let me help with the transition. It worked well for my ex to transition her to his home when I would occasionally visit and play with her.
