SPARKY’s Personality

Sparky is playful, very active and energetic puppy. Loves attention. Outside our apartment, he is very friendly. Can be territorial inside the house as chihuhua’s are known to be. He barks/growls at strangers who come to our place for the first time. After sometime he calms down. Likes to bite/nibble on your fingers not with the intention to hurt but in a friendly way. Likes to climb over us and lick our ears. Loves to get a belly rub.

SPARKY’s Current Home Environment

We used to live in our 4 bedroom house in CT. Due to my husband’s job we moved to PA in June to a two bedroom apartment in Pennsylvania. So we are a little constrained for space. This is a pet friendly apartment so he gets to meet other dogs (big and small) during his daily walks four times a day. He also meets other people and small children. He is also very friendly with them – goes to them wagging his tail and lies down on the ground for a belly rub.

SPARKY’s Current Family:

It is only me and my husband. Our 2 college going boys visit us occasionally. I am a home maker. I am home all day except when I have to go to the store or visit someone. My husband is at work during the day.

SPARKY’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

His favorite toys are Kong Wubba toys. He loves to play tug of war with is toys and also play fetch with them. He sometimes chews on toy bones. Loves to go out on his daily walks and enjoys sniffing. He loves eating any human food if we give it to him. He likes to go and hide under the bed.

His regular diet is:
Royal Canin Adult for Chihuahuas : 3 meals a day a maximum of 1 and 1/4 cup in a day

His favorite snacks are:
Whimzees – vegetarian gluten free (toothbrush)
Buddy biscuit
Star Tricky trainers Chewy – cheddar cheese flavor
Nylabone – Healthy edibles Chicken flavor

Cute SPARKY Story:

When Sparky wants attention he almost talks to us. If we try to ignore him he continues to make sounds as if trying to make a conversation and would stand up on 2 legs and puts his front 2 legs on our thighs and scratch for attention. I sometime play games with him, pretending to chase him. He loves to run in circles non-stop when I run behind him. It is so funny to watch him. He understands stay, sit, paw, down, come etc. He understands both English words and our Indian language. It is very funny to watch him chase his own tail. It is very cute to watch him play with his toys. He throws his wubba toys up in the air and try to catch them. Sparky loves to pull off our socks when we remove our shoes. Has very expressive eyes and is super cute. When we go on our walks, anybody he meets can’t help commenting on his cuteness!
When we were trying to recover from our tragic loss, Sparky was a great and welcome distraction.

Why is SPARKY Being Rehomed?

We bought Sparky from a pet store in Danbury, CT when he was only 9 weeks old last November mainly to cheer up our ailing 22 year old son. Our son suddenly passed away in January of this year. Having Sparky around in the months following our tragic loss was a great solace. Due to my husband’s job we moved to PA in June. Currently we are in a small apartment but we need to move to a bigger house to fit our things from our CT home as they are still in storage. It is a challenge to find a reasonable pet friendly independent homes for rent. Also down the road we are considering moving back to our country (India) permanently after our other two children settle down. We would like to give him up for adoption before he becomes older and we get too attached.

SPARKY’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

We are looking for a loving home environment preferably a family who owns or have owned a chihuahua before. Someone who is familiar and understands this dog breed. It would be nice if this family has another small dog or have small children for companionship and play with him especially if both parents work during the day.
