Macs’ Personality

Mac - orange tabby cat for adoption in san antonio texasSince coming in as a scrawny stray, Mac had developed a love for all cat food and eats too much, if allowed to (I’m trying to cut his rations, but he eats the other cats’ food as well). He is very energetic and loves to run around the house and chase his toys (or pieces of cat litter, which apparently are toys as well).

He gets his own toys from the toy basket and entertains himself if no one is available to play with him. He likes to lay next to you or on you in the evening, purring and kneading. He likes to play with the other older cats, but they don’t usually care to play with him.

He has never been aggressive with them, but does like to play hard. He can also be a loud meower, and likes to announce his recent use of the litter box, or remind that it is time for more food.He has been exclusively indoors since taking him in, but if you aren’t careful, he will make a break for the outside as you go out the door. He LOVES to scratch and tear apart cardboard and paper (be careful leaving a box within his reach.)

Macs’ Food and Diet

Mac is currently on a mixture of Royal Canine Indoor 27 and Purina Cat Chow Complete, both dry. Rarely eats wet food, but likes it. Fed morning and evening, enough dry food to cover the bottom of the bowl, but he also eats from the other cat bowls, so I’m not sure how much he eats in total, but I know he needs a diet, and an environment where his food portions could be better controlled would be better for him.

Reason For Rehoming Mac

Mac was a stray hanging around my house. My mom, who was living with me at the time (this was about 4 months ago), felt bad for him and wanted to take him in. I let her, and we got him cleaned up, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. My mom has recently moved into assisted living, and I not have my 13 year old cat, her 14 year old cat, and Mac, the new 1+ year old.

My cat isolates herself with the new young cat around, and he gets along with my mom’s cat, but she too gets overwhelmed by his energy and playfulness. I don’t think it’s best for especially my cat to have him around, yet he is very friendly and energetic, and would do well in a home with other young cats, and probably very well in a home with children that wanted to play with him and keep up with his energy.
