Duke is a male Weimaraner Lab mix dog for adoption to a very loving home in or near Austin Texas. This very special dog is 6 and weighs 68 lbs. He is neutered, up to date on shots, and house trained. Duke is in excellent health.

Duke is very intelligent and eager to please his owner. He likes activity, and enjoys a very long walk every day. Duke has had extensive obedience training and has good manners.
Duke is not the dog for everyone. He is best suited to a quiet home without other dogs, and with adults-only, or respectful older children. Duke has some anxiety with strangers, and needs to be properly introduced. He is not good with dogs his size or bigger, so he is not a dog-park dog.
Duke’s owner had to leave the country, intending to return in a few weeks. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond his control, he is unable to return to the US. Duke’s foster owner is not able to keep him due to aggression between Duke and his other two dogs.
He is hoping to find Duke the right situation – an “only dog” home with adults or a family with older children (12 and up). Duke needs a large, securely fenced yard, and owners who can give him the time, attention, exercise and care he needs and deserves.

I live in an apartment with two other dogs. Therefore, I go on walks everyday. I am gone for about 6 hours per day, where the dogs are left alone. We have to put chairs in front of doors because he will open doors to go into rooms when we leave.

I am a single working professional. Active. Love to go to the greenbelt with the dogs and interact with other people. I bring the dogs everywhere.

Duke loves all toys. He is very reward based so treats and toys he eagerly anticipates.
Cute Duke Story:
Every time I come home, Duke is eager to greet me. As soon as I’m in the door he runs to me, then frantically searches for his favorite toy. With the toy in his mouth he comes to me, trying to play. He will go outside and go the bathroom with the toy in his mouth.
Why is Duke Being Rehomed?
This dog was owned by a friend that had to go get his visa paperwork finished back in the Philippines. I agreed to watch his dog the two weeks he was gone. While overseas, he was fired from his job, unable to come back to Austin. He landed himself in Hong Kong, with no way to get the dog back. I tried to accept the situation, getting him dog training and also current on all his shots. He went through two months of training and constant work.
However, he still is not improving in his dog-aggressive ways for the dogs that are his size or bigger. He has tried to bite other dogs. He has tried to growl and snip at strangers. For my apartment, I am over the limit for dogs and could not keep him as I already had two dogs before this, one rescue already. Because of his aggressive attitude, the apartment does not want me keeping him even if I break my lease with my roommate and get into another apartment where the three dogs could be split up between us two. I am heartbroken but there is nothing I can do to make this work.
Duke’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
Adults without children. Someone who can give him lots of time would be ideal. He has energy and needs daily walks.
