Siberian Husky Labrador Retriever Mix Dog For Adoption in Modesto CA – Adopt Atlas

Meet Atlas, Siberian Husky Labrador Retriever Mix Dog For Adoption in Modesto CA

Atlas is a Male Siberian Husky Labrador Retriever Mix Dog for adoption to a very loving home in or near Modesto, CA. This very special Dog is 6 yrs DOB 12/25/2013 years old and weighs 60 lbs pounds.

Atlas is being placed for adoption by owner for the following reason:
We originally took Atlas in thinking it would be only for a short time while his owner recovered from some health complications.

A mutual friend told us about the situation and that the owner was going to have to take him to the shelter if unable to find someone to keep him temporarily while she recovered or found him a permanent home. We did not hear back from them and are still looking to find him a family four years later. We looked without any real urgency, preferring not to have a dog at this stage of our lives, but no desperate need until more recently.

We moved about a year ago to an older home with a small yard and a fence that is mostly falling apart, which is a terrible combination for a dog who gets bored easily and already had a tendency toward wanting to escape and run free to make new friends. He will go for a few weeks without incident, then find a new place to get out. We are very worried about his safety as we are in town near some busy main streets.

There is a $100 adoption/rehoming fee. Supplies and veterinary records will be included.

Atlas’s Personality

We love that he NEVER barks. After 4 years, we do not even know what his bark sounds like. He cracks us up by talking back to us when playing, though. My husband claims that it is him being cheeky.

I love his singing along with sirens on occasion when they are close by that always makes me laugh.

I love his silly, sweet personality that just seems like a big kid who loves everyone sooooo much! Though it is frustrating when he escapes, we do enjoy everyone telling us how incredibly sweet he is when they bring him back.

I love how excited he gets for treats and how he can hardly hold himself together, but still waits patiently until I give him permission to take it gently from my hand.

Atlas’s Current Home Environment

I care for 4 toddlers in our home during the day, and Atlas is absolutely great with the kids. One of the little girls is very nervous about animals, so he stays outside during the day with visits from the kids about once a week usually. He is surprisingly gentle and calm with them. They love to brush him and give him treats. Our yard is much too small for an energetic dog who loves to run. We do not have many people over often, so he does not have much exposure to new people and animals. However, we do board him with a family that has other dogs when we are away overnight.

Atlas’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Atlas loves to run! Stomping our feet starts him racing full speed back and forth across the yard. He will make several laps, then run back to us for more stomping and more running over and over until he wears himself out.

He chases balls, but usually thinks it is a game of keep away, rather than fetch. He loves any treat, food, or bone to chew on. Atlas loves walks and jogging with my husband.

Cute Atlas Story:

Atlas has learned to recognize the sound my phone makes when I receive a motion alert in the driveway, usually signaling that my husband has arrived home from work. He immediately goes to the window to watch him come up the walk.

The established routine is that he has to wait patiently for my husband to come in, greet me, and go change out of his work clothes. It is always adorable to watch how excited he is and how hard he works to contain himself while waiting for his turn for attention.

Why is Atlas Being Rehomed?

Atlas’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Room to run! Atlas really needs a home where he has a large area to run and, ideally, more companionship. He would be great with other dogs and older children to play with. A farm or home with a bit of property would be perfect for him.
