Meet Sophie,Yellow Labrador Retriever German Shepherd Mix Dog For Adoption in McKinney Texas – Adopt Sophie

Sophie is an adorable, energetic 9 month old Yellow Labrador Retriever Border Collie mix dog for adoption in McKinney, Texas, near Plano, Arlington and Dallas Fort Worth. Sophie is a medium sized dog at 47 pounds. She is very healthy, spayed, micro-chipped and up to date on shots. Sophie is house broken and good with other dogs and cats. She is very good with respectful, gentle children, and is a wonderful family companion.

Sophie’s owners are devastated to have to look for a new home for her. After adopting her from a rescue several months ago, there has been a growing dynamic between their two Boston Terriers as a result of Sophie’s presence. While this is in no way Sophie’s fault, the owners have been advised by a trainer that the other dog’s aggression towards each other has been triggered by Sophie’s presence in the pack order.

They have been advised that rehoming Sophie will be the best solution to fixing the problem. She is such a sweet and loving dog that she will add tremendous love, joy, laughter and companionship to the lives of a special family able to offer her the care, love. exercise, playtime and attention she needs and deserves.

Sophie is looking for a home with owners who own their own home and have a securely fenced back yard for her to romp and play in. They should have a schedule that allows lots of time to spend with Sophie.

Sophie will be rehomed with all supplies and veterinary records. Please offer this beautiful and very loving and devoted 9 month old Yellow Labrador Retriever mix puppy the loving home she needs and deserves today. Sophie’s Current Home Environment

Honestly, prior to our older dogs starting to become aggressive with each other in January before the first major fight, our house was busy but not chaotic. We believe in having a safe place for each of our dogs where they have their quiet place within our house for their crates if we should have friends and/or family over just to ease anxiety. We are typically very structured when it comes to when the house quiets down for the night, etc. However, since the last bad fight between our older dogs a little over 2 weeks ago, we are so overly anxious that are house just feels like chaos. I feel like we have to always keep the dogs separated to keep things calm and it’s not fair to any of us.

Sophie’s Current Family:

My wife and I have a two year old son and are actively working with a fertility doctor at the moment to have our second child. We have two Boston Terriers that were our first babies prior to us even getting engaged. They are the best of friends (unfortunately when Sophie is not around). My wife and I married in 2015 and in April of 2017 after working with a fertility doctor, welcome our now 2 year old son into our family. One of our Boston Terriers immediately treated our newborn son as though he was her baby… waking up and watching during each feeding during the middle of the night, photo bombing every photo taken of him, and laying next to wherever he slept. So acclimating our two older dogs to our son was no issue at all.

In August 2018, we rescued Sophie when she was abandoned with her litter in a new development area where we live under a construction trailer. My wife is a counselor and clinical director for her company and was having 1 on 1 dog training for Sophie (she has completed half of the training thus far) in the hopes of making her an Emotional Support Service Animal for her patients.

Sophie’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Sophie is crate trained by getting her any sort of dog treat and saying “treat, kennel.” She loves rawhides and I believe its the Nubz plastic bones to chew on. She only eats dry food and rarely begs for table food. We get her the Kong plush toys as any other toy she’ll shred to pieces, so we spend the extra money to have it last. She loves to take walks and loves to play fetch (although we’re still working on her bringing it back and then not making us try to reach for it multiple times).

Cute Sophie Story:

I suffer from a great deal of anxiety and had a really rough day. Sophie is typically goofy and silly, always playing – and typically gravitates towards my wife more than me. One evening during her typical playtime, I escaped to our bedroom just to take a moment to cry. Out of nowhere, Sophie appeared on the bed, laid down next to me, and rest her head on my shoulder/neck. She stayed there for a good 30-45 minutes where I truly now understand why dogs are utilized in therapy for emotional support.

Outside of that, I love to watch Sophie play with herself but tossing her tennis balls and stuffed animals in the air and chasing them. She is still so clumsy where you can’t help but laugh at how goofy she is.

Why is Sophie Being Rehomed?

We rescued Sophie when we had our two Boston Terriers for 4.5 years prior. Our Boston Terriers had no behavioral issues or aggression prior to Sophie coming into our house, or even when we first adopted her. But as Sophie became quite bigger than our other dogs in December/January, anxiety started to set in with our Boston Terriers. Sophie is extremely playful, just like the Bostons, but she doesn’t realize how much bigger she is than them (a good 30-35 pound difference). As she got bigger, she still tried to rough house with our Boston Terriers as if she was still 8-12 lbs. The Boston Terriers have become anxious when she is around. The alpha of the three (which happens to be the smallest one) knows she can’t attack Sophie because of her size, so she now attacks our other Boston that she was so very close to prior to December/January time frame.

Two MAJOR fights have broken out with the two Boston Terriers (Sophie was not apart of the aggressive fighting but definitely witnessed it) that have required surgery on both dogs two times (January 2019 and March 2019). The fights were so bad, that I literally had to get in the middle to stop them or I believe they would have fought to the death ( I ended up with stitches both times to break it up). Our vet has told us that Sophie is the trigger for the aggression between our Boston Terriers and it’s not fair to Sophie or our two older dogs. She said the fairest thing we can do for Sophie and for our other dogs is to find Sophie a new home. We found her advice to be valid when Sophie was spayed and away for two days and for the first time in almost 6 months, our Boston Terriers were their old, loving selves again.

Sophie’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Someone that gives her so much attention and love. We think of our dogs as our children and not just pets. I want the new owner to have the same mentality that Sophie is their family member and not a chore or “just a dog.” She definitely needs a backyard to play in and the owner has to be proactive about taking her for walks/runs/playing fetch. She is an amazing dog and deserves the absolute best! It should also be stated that she has too much energy to live within an apartment setting.

Additional Comments:

Since the last dog fight with our other dogs (again, Sophie only witnessed the fights, but was never apart of them) we noticed that she is timid around men (on two instances) where she becomes so submissive that she pees a bit. After they slowly coax her, she is as friendly as can be.
