All About Juniper – Pomeranian dog For Adoption in North Vancouver British Columbia

Behavior Issues: She has anxiety/separation anxiety. Otherwise, she is fit as a fiddle.
Barking for attention (Just haven’t been able to work on)
Fear of men (slowly getting better in certain situations)
Minor destructive tendencies if not receiving attention (like socks, pencils, pens, and all the little things she can steal)
Some leash reactivity in certain circumstances (these are and continue to improve)
– loud vehicles, motorcycles, skateboards, fast-moving people (these things are getting better since moving to a quieter area)
– most things at night, she is afraid of the dark (I mean, I would be if I was that small!)
– only some dogs, sometimes, if she gets to say hello to them and she doesn’t feel too overwhelmed (just puppies), she has no problems and wants nothing more than to play. Unless it’s nighttime because then it’s too spooky.

Obedience Trained: She went through Puppy training, really good with basic commands like sit, wait, shake, spin, and lay down. She is incredibly smart (sometimes too smart for her own good lol) and loves to learn and do tricks!

Accessories Included: Everything you could think of. Toys of all kinds, food bowl, water fountain, different leashes and harnesses, grooming tools, treats, food, clothes, and boots (she won’t wear them).
Juniper’s Personality
Juniper is a fun-loving silly little fluff ball. She is the queen and wishes to be treated as the royalty she knows she is. She is also incredibly curious and always wants to investigate new things.
Juni enjoys being carried around and shown all the exciting things, typically too tall to sniff. I hope you like to play lots because she certainly does, be prepared to have your own little energizer bunny at home!
She also loves to give kisses and is very big into tummy rubs. If she isn’t getting enough, you may find her on her back yelling in another room, so you’ll come over and rub her tum.
She can be apprehensive about meeting strangers, but once you’ve been welcomed into her inner circle (it’s very exclusive), you’ll have the privilege to hang out with her.
She also loves fake grass and loose dirt. She’ll immediately get the zoomies, and hopefully, you don’t get too dizzy as she’ll spin you around in circles.
Juniper’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
ALL OF THEM
Juniper loves to play and has many toys to choose from. The top hitters are her tennis balls, lamb chop (I think we are on #6), her frog toy, and her teething keys from when she was a puppy.
She also loves puzzle toys and sniffle mats, and she has a few different ones I rotate through as they help a lot with her anxiety and calm her down after an intense play session.
She loves to snuggle but also enjoys adventuring around quiet areas. We take her on little hikes in the woods, and she loves getting out into nature, especially if there is a small stream she can investigate.
She is a very picky eater. Currently, she free-feeds with her kibble and then gets treats throughout the day. She’s good with not eating too much of her kibble and sometimes enjoys it being spread out on the ground rather than in a bowl.
We have tried different wet and homemade foods but haven’t found a combination she’ll continuously eat. She’s really big into novelty and new things.
But she loves Bully sticks and if given one, will start to chew it on her own but be prepared for her to march over, drop it at your feet, give you the most dramatic sigh you’ve ever heard, and expect you to hold it for her while she chews.
Cute Juniper Story:
When we first got Juniper, I had to spend a couple of weeks with my mom, so Juniper came with me, my mom has three big labs, and Juniper immediately became a lab herself.
She was smaller than their heads, yet she was running around and trying to drag their chews around the house. It was a silly experience, and we think this is why she is good with big dogs, as its what she thinks she is.
We also love taking her to the dog park on quiet days. She will spend forever getting dogs to chase her, only to leave them in the dust as she sprints in circles around them.
Why is Juniper Being Rehomed?
The first reason is my partner and I have two sweet 6-year-old cats in our life, and even though we tried to pick a pup that would get along with them, it’s just not the case.
Unfortunately, with Juniper’s anxiety, the cats move too fast for her and cause her to get into a reactive state. More than anything, we want her to feel safe and relaxed at home, and throughout the day, she is, but that’s only because the cats are asleep and inactive.
As soon as they start to move around in the evening, it stresses Juniper out, and we can see it’s not good for her. It has also led to aggressive tendencies towards the cats when she feels threatened, and it’s not good for either of them.
This has made it hard to work on some of her behaviors inside as it makes home a place of reactivity for her rather than safety.
The second is that shortly after we got Juniper, my partner was diagnosed with a chronic illness, and as a result, we haven’t always been able to give Juniper the attention she needs.
This has been the leading cause of some of her behavioral issues and anxiety. She needs a level of consistency that we can’t provide to work through these issues.
Juniper’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
Juniper needs a stable environment located in a quiet area. If you have a backyard, that would be ideal, as she doesn’t always like going out on walks but enjoys playing outside.
It would also help with some of her anxiety. No cats, as that is the issue we are currently having. We think she would benefit greatly from a dog sibling, preferably a chill male dog, as she will still need to be the Queen of the home.
She loves playing with other dogs and going to the dog park as long as it’s quiet. Preferably just women in the home, as she does struggle with men, and given past experiences with sitters, she doesn’t react well with new men in her space.
Either someone retired or working from home, as she does suffer from separation anxiety.
We love Juniper so much and only wish to adjust our lives to keep her in them. This is not the experience we wanted for her as both my partner and I treat our animals like our kids and have always been huge animal lovers and pet owners.
But unselfishly, we want what’s best for her, and our home is causing her more harm than good, we think. In saying that, we would love to stay in touch and visit her sometimes (but only after she has had time to settle in, like in a couple of years).
As well, if there were ever to be any issues along the way, we would always instead her come back to us then go into a shelter; even if it’s years down the line and something in your life changes, we will always have room for our little fluff ball.
