Meet Mr G: A Brilliant, Broccoli-Loving Cat With a Big Heart
Adopt Mr G
Some cats come running for chicken. Mr G comes running for broccoli. Call out “treat” when there are a few florets in the bag and this affectionate little black cat is ready to report for duty.
Mr G is a 7-pound bundle of affection, intelligence and curiosity who loves being close to his person. He rubs around ankles, settles into a welcoming lap and sleeps beside the person he loves. He is energetic and inquisitive, enjoys exploring the apartment, and can even walk on a leash when he is feeling confident enough for an adventure.
Mr G also has a wonderfully memorable culinary quirk: broccoli is his favorite treat. Bring some home with dinner, call “treat,” and he comes running. Two or three florets later, one very satisfied cat goes on with his evening.
This much-loved boy needs a new home because his person must move into assisted living as dementia changes what she is able to manage, and the facility cannot accommodate Mr G. This is a change in circumstances, not a failure of the bond they share. Finding him a safe, understanding home where he can once again belong to someone is the goal.
Mr G has spent part of his life as a porch cat, and he still brings some enthusiastic survival instincts to mealtime. When food is being prepared he can become so excited that he may jump up and inadvertently catch a hand while trying to reach it. Giving him a little separation while food is being taken out is a simple way to manage this. He can also become overstimulated by prolonged petting and may nip when he has had enough. His new person should be comfortable reading feline body language and willing to respect his signals rather than expecting affection on demand.
For a cat-savvy adult who appreciates an intelligent, affectionate cat with personality to spare, Mr G has an enormous amount to offer. He is cuddly, clever, lively and sweet—and life with him is unlikely ever to be boring.
