Meet Sam – Pre-Loved Pomeranian dog For Adoption in Edmonton AB

Sam is a Male Pomeranian Miniature Schnauzer mix dog for adoption to a very loving home in or near Edmonton, AB. This very special dog is 8 old and weighs 27.

5 Amazing Things About Sam:

Sam is always happy to see you. He will bark excitedly and bring you his stuffed animal.

He loves snuggle with you, even if he is just resting his paw on your foot. He loves contact.

Sam is so loyal and will protect you when he is bonded with you. He has protected me more than once when we were out on night walks when we lived in a less safe location.

Sam is always trying to communicate, and it’s been so lovely getting to know how he ‘speaks’. A short bark at the back door, letting you know he’s ready to come inside from the yard. A pointed look at the back door letting you know he wants to go out. A short nudge letting you know he wants to be pet. A short whine letting you know he needs a second refill of his water bowl. I love all his little signals and sometimes passive aggressive side-eyes when you accidentally trip over him.

Sam’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do.

They are hoping to find the right home where this deserving dog will be loved unconditionally and kept safe, happy, healthy and well-cared-for.

If you have room in your heart and home for Sam, then please offer a loving, forever home today. Sam can’t wait to show you the true meaning of unconditional love.

Toys: we have an assortment of hard and soft toys that Sam loves to play with. We also have a few new toys that we have yet to introduce to him and they will all come with Sam. This also includes a snuffle mat, a kibble/treat dispensing rolling ball, and a puzzle toy (can be used similar to a snuffle mat for treats).

Kennel: we have a standard hardshell portable kennel although it’s now a bit small for him. He was previously crate trained in this kennel so is very comfortable with it. He now stays in a large custom-made wooden kennel that we would be happy to disassemble and provide to his adoptive family if they are willing to pick it up. We also have a small and a large bed for him, both of which he loves.

Accessories: chest harness, leash, custom-made treat belt that can be clipped to his leash (for hands-free walks). Clickers for training with, a muzzle, winter boots (though these don’t consistently stay on his feet), winter jacket, fur grooming kit, fur comb

Sam’s Personality

Sam is a snuggle bug who just wants to cuddle and play. He loves running around outside, chasing toys, playing with treat puzzles, and just snuggling up on the couch or laying down and snoozing. Sam is extremely food motivated and will eat almost everything (but he does have a strong preference for firm blueberries over soft blueberries.) While Sam is a scaredy cat that overreacts to noises and strange people, once he bonds with you he will defend you loyally even if he is scared. Beware, squirrels!

Sam’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Sam loves playing with stuffed animals. He keeps his stuffies in great condition and treats them all gently. Although he loves squeaky toys, he is too scared of hurting his stuffies to squeak them so you will have to squeak them for him.

Sam will inhale basically all meat products and a variety of fruits and veg. However, firm blueberries stand above the rest in terms of fruit and veg. In terms of dog treats, he loves soft dog treats much more than hard or crunchy treats.

Sam loves long walks and hikes. He also loves trotting around with his fur blowing in the wind like he is in a dog shampoo commercial. He also loves chewing on bones, playing with a treat ball, or snuffling through a treat mat. His favorite way to bond though, would just be to lay down and get a long head, back, and tummy rub.

Cute Sam Story:

When I first met Sam, he was hiding behind a potted plant. He was so scared he was shaking and refusing to come out. I had to lure him out with little dabs of peanut butter (like E.T. and skittles.) Since then, Sam has been my little shadow. Whenever my husband needs to find Sam, he just comes looking for me and vice versa. It’s not uncommon to find us both taking a snooze in the living room, or to find Sam sitting outside the bathroom door waiting for me to come out. He is the loveliest companion for a night in or a grand hiking adventure.

Why is Sam Being Rehomed?

We have had a baby this past year and Sam is not able to adjust to the unpredictability of the baby. He is stressed frequently by the baby noises and sounds which has led him to snapping a few times. At the same time, we find that we are no longer able to give Sam the attention and structure that he needs. We want Sam to be in a home where he is not constantly stressed, and to be with people who are able to give him the love and care that he deserves.

Sam’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

As mentioned above, we are looking for an adoptive family/home that is able to give him the attention he needs and deserves. The time and care that you put into him, he will return manyfold. He has made significant progress over the years with his training and would likely benefit from structured training opportunities. Unfortunately given his reactivity, families with other pets or children are probably not well suited to his disposition. We are hoping that a potential adoptive family/home will understand that his reactivity comes from fear and that he needs gentle and consistent attention and structure to help minimize his fears and maximize the love that he experiences in his life.
