What Counts as a Giant or Extra-Large Dog Breed?

There is no universal weight line separating a large dog from a giant one. This directory uses Giant & Extra-Large as a practical adoption category for breeds whose mature size, height or build commonly places them among the biggest companion and working dogs.

Some breeds can reasonably appear in different size classifications depending on the individual dog. Pet Net’s goal is not to impose a rigid measurement system; it is to help adopters find useful pathways to dogs of the size and type they are considering.

Choose the individual dog, not just the size label. Temperament, age, training, exercise needs, health, mobility and known compatibility with children or other pets are more important to a successful adoption than weight alone.
