Looking for an Alaskan Malamute dog for adoption in Tacoma (McCleary), WA? Oak would love to be considered for the position of your cherished family companion.
Meet Oak – Pre-Loved Malamute dog For Adoption by Owner in McCleary WA
If love could be measured in pounds, Oak tips the scale at 110. He is big, bold, beautiful, and just a little bit ridiculous—in the very best way. One moment he’s sprawled belly-up with his paws curled near his face like a giant teddy bear, begging for rubs with all the finesse of a drama student auditioning for the role of “Most Lovable Dog Ever.” The next, he’s bouncing around like a goofy toddler who just discovered sugar, convinced that life is one big playground meant for him to explore.

Oak has mastered the art of making friends. Human? Dog? Neighbor’s kid on a bike? Doesn’t matter. If you have a pulse and a hand to spare for ear scratches, Oak’s already penciled you in as his new best friend. His face tells you everything he’s feeling—joy, curiosity, or that tragic, Oscar-worthy look of betrayal when you dare to step outside without him. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t just walk into a room—he fills it with presence, laughter, and heart.
Now, Oak isn’t perfect—but then again, neither are the best love stories. He’s clever. Very clever. “Houdini in fur” clever. Gates, fences, countertops—if there’s a challenge, Oak sees it as a puzzle waiting to be solved. He has a mischievous streak fueled by curiosity and a nose that seems magnetically drawn to anything edible (or not-so-edible). Combine that with a Malamute’s legendary energy and prey drive, and you’ll understand why his current family—who love him dearly—have realized they simply can’t give him the structure and space he needs to thrive. This is not a decision made lightly. It’s made with love, heartbreak, and the hope that someone out there can give Oak the world he deserves.
Health-wise, Oak has weathered a few bumps—pancreatitis and colitis—but with proper care he’s back to his goofy, happy self. What he really needs is an active home with room to roam, plenty of adventure, and a family who laughs as much as they love. He’s food-motivated (ask him about his passion for broccoli), trainable, and happiest when his body and brain are kept busy. After a long hike, though, he’ll gladly flop down next to you, content just to listen to the wind in the trees and be your oversized shadow.
If you’re the kind of person who looks at a 110-pound whirlwind of fur and love and thinks, “Yes, that’s exactly the chaos my heart has been missing,” then Oak is waiting for you. He’s waiting for his forever hiking partner, his couch buddy, his family—the ones who will see past the mischief to the incredible companion he truly is.
Adopt Oak, and you’ll never wonder what unconditional love feels like—he’ll show you every single day.

Oak’s Personality
Oak is a beautiful and charismatic dog who comes with a huge energy level. He is good natured, but very intelligent and will get into mischief if not occupied. He would be great for someone with an active lifestyle and a larger house/property. Oak does well with training (very food motivated), but can struggle with recall when off the leash.
Oak does great with other dogs. He has lived with another dog almost his whole life. He does great at the dog park and is always happy to make new friends (human or dog). He loves to be the center of attention and has the best way of asking for belly rubs. He’s a big goof ball with lots of love to give.
Oak’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
He’ll eat just about anything, he’s been happy with any dog treats we’ve gotten him. He also loves carrots and broccoli. He’ll hover if I’m cutting any up and wait for his cut.
He really loves stuffed toys that he can tear apart. Toys meant for chewing on for a while are also enjoyed. He’ll occasionally enjoy some tug-of-war as well.
He really loves his walks, playing with other dogs, running around and exploring.
Cute Oak Story:
Like I mentioned above they way he asks for belly rubs and relaxing outside with him are some of my favorite things about him.
He made friends with a neighbor’s kid, the kid was about 13, loved to come over play with him and give him attention and Oak was always happy to see him. Though he’s always happy yo see anyone. On walks he gets excited to see another person as that means he might get their attention.
Why is Oak Being Rehomed?
Due to my health issues and working full-time he doesn’t get the care and stimulation he needs. In addition we cannot afford to keep him in between vets bills when he getting into something he shouldn’t and the destruction he causes around the house. As I mentioned we have another dog who’s care suffers due to everything we have to deal with him and his behaviour. We know he can handle being rehomed, are other dog absolutely cannot handle that due to her issues.
We also have a parrot who’s out time is very limited due to Oak extreme prey drive.
Oak’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
He needs an active home, with lots of space and things to do. A home that will take him on big long hikes, walks and come home for cuddles after tiring him out. He’s very sweet with a lot of love to give, he just need so much more exercise and stimulation.
We would love to have updates, pictures, and even meet ups at the dog park so our other dog can see him too. But the biggest and most important thing is for him to have the right home. So if it’s somewhere far and they don’t want to keep in touch, as long as it a good home that’s all the truly matters.
