Onyx is a 3-year-old Aussiedoodle with soft curls, soulful eyes, and a presence that feels like home. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t need to be the center of attention to steal your heart — he just quietly claims a corner of it by being exactly who he is: loyal, affectionate, and always near when you need him most.
He’s devoted in a way that’s rare. Whether he’s calmly resting at your feet or following you from room to room like a gentle shadow, Onyx is always there. During his owner’s pregnancy, he sensed every moment of exhaustion and worry, and responded with silent support — placing his head in her lap and staying there, eyes full of love, for as long as she needed. That’s who he is. A companion in the truest sense.
Onyx loves the simple pleasures: tug-of-war in the yard, a leisurely walk, a well-earned treat, or curling up beside you on the couch. He doesn’t ask for much — just to be near his people and to be part of a world where he feels safe, understood, and loved.
But like many brilliant, sensitive souls, Onyx has layers. He’s experienced moments of fear that have led to reactive behavior — moments that, with the help of a professional trainer, have been understood as startle responses and protective instincts rather than aggression. He’s been thriving with routine, structure, and boundaries. His perfect home will offer him just that: not perfection, but calm, consistency, and someone who sees beyond the surface into his very big heart.
His family has made the painful decision to rehome him not out of frustration, but out of love. With a toddler at home and limited time to continue the focused training Onyx deserves, they’re hoping to find someone who can offer him a future full of support, patience, and the quiet joys he so deeply appreciates.
Onyx is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows his basic commands. He’s deeply respectful indoors and shows a special gentleness around children — but he would thrive best in an adult home with someone who has experience, or at least the dedication to give him clear expectations and ongoing positive reinforcement.
If you’re the kind of person who understands that the best relationships are built slowly and deeply… if you’re willing to offer structure and get even more love in return… if you’re looking not just for a pet, but for a true companion — Onyx might just be waiting for you.
He’s not just looking for a home. He’s looking for his person. Could that be you?

In one instance, he was startled awake during the night and bit a family member who walked by while he was sleeping on the floor of the bedroom. A certified trainer assessed this as a startle reflex rather than aggression. Since having him sleep in a separate area at night, there have been no further issues.
Another time, a visiting friend approached while he was near me and my toddler, and he reacted by biting. The trainer felt this was likely a protective response and noted he can have some impulse control challenges in certain situations. With a regular routine and clear boundaries, he’s been doing well and continues to improve.
He’d do best with someone who has some dog experience or just keeps a good daily rhythm and clear expectations at home. He would benefit from daily exercise and mental stimulation. He’s a sweet, loyal dog who really shines with a bit of structure and calm energy around him.

Onyx’s Personality
He’s a loving, loyal Aussiedoodle with the perfect mix of energy, affection, and calmness. True to his breed, he’s intelligent and eager to please, making him quick to learn new things. He enjoys going out for walks and interactive games like tug-of-war. At home, he can catch balls and loves bonding through fun activities.
He’s also perfectly content to relax on the couch and enjoy quality cuddle time. His affectionate nature means he’s always up for some love and attention, and he’s happy to settle down next to you after a play session or walk.
He is protective over me, but he’s also gentle and calm around my toddler, showing a natural, soft demeanor when interacting with younger children. While he may have some underlying fear issues, he has been very gentle and patient with my toddler, and he is continuing to adjust to different situations with time. In addition to his playful side, he knows basic commands like giving his paw and responds well to simple cues, showing his willingness to please and follow direction.
Onyx’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
When it comes to toys, he’s not picky—he enjoys just about every dog toy we’ve brought home, especially balls and anything he can chase or tug. Outdoor time is a highlight for him; he loves going for walks and spending time in the yard, whether it’s playing or just soaking up the fresh air.
Food-wise, he has a healthy appetite and enjoys a variety of dog-safe treats. He especially loves wet dog food, plain cooked chicken, steak with rice, and fruits that are safe for dogs.
He also really enjoys cuddling and being close to his people. Whether you’re outside together or relaxing indoors, he’s happy as long as he’s near you.
Cute Onyx Story:
During my pregnancy, especially on the tough days when I was feeling sick or drained, he seemed to instinctively know when I needed rest or a little extra love. He’d quietly come over, lay beside me, and just offer his calm presence, no fuss, no demands.
I remember one day, when I was really struggling, he walked up to me, gently laid his head on my lap, and stayed there for hours, just looking up at me with those big, soft eyes. It was such a simple, sweet moment, but it made everything feel a little more manageable.
He’s not just a dog, he’s a real companion.
Why is Onyx Being Rehomed?
We need to rehome our pet because our current circumstances have made it difficult for us to devote the time and attention needed to continue his training, whether personally or with a trainer, to help build his confidence. He’s a wonderful dog, and we truly believe that with the right environment and consistent support, he can thrive.
Additionally, with a young toddler at home, we’re concerned that we can’t provide the level of supervision and structure needed to prevent any further incidents.
This decision is made out of love for him, as we want the best possible future for him.
Onyx’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
We are looking for a loving, responsible home where he will receive the attention and care he deserves. Ideally, the home will be calm and stable, with someone who is patient and committed to continuing his training to help build his confidence.
Proper training will be really beneficial in ensuring he thrives in his new environment and helps prevent any future challenges. A family with no young children would be best, as we want him to feel safe and secure.
Most importantly, we want a home where he will be cherished as a member of the family and given the time and support he needs.
We would love to stay in touch and hope to meet him again in person sometime in the future. We understand that might be challenging due to physical circumstances, but it would be wonderful to receive photos and videos of him in his new home to know how he’s doing.
