Meet Phife – Pre-Loved Black and White cat For Adoption by Owner in Charlotte NC
The first thing you should know about me is that I greet the people I love with a gentle head bump, like a tiny velvet hello that says, “You made it back—I kept the house safe.” My name is Phife, and I take my job as household sweetheart very seriously. I may be only nine pounds of black-and-white fluff, but I contain at least a full orchestra of chirps, purrs, and hopeful little glances that could power a small city.

I wasn’t always a polished lady of leisure. Back in 2018 I was a brand-new kitten at Charlotte Animal Control, all ears and optimism, when my family found me and decided I was exactly the roommate they’d been waiting for. I learned the rules of the house quickly—scratch posts are for scratching, couches are for napping, and humans are for applauding whenever I perform my signature move: leaping onto the ledge to swat a wand toy like an Olympic gymnast with whiskers. I’m not much of a meower, but I have perfected a soft chirp that means, “Excuse me, the snack schedule appears to be running two minutes behind.”
Evenings are my favorite. That’s when the plastic rings and crinkle balls come out and I transform into a fearless huntress. Elastic hair bands are my sworn enemies; I knock them from the sky and pounce as if the safety of the kingdom depends on it. After my shift, I like to supervise the neighborhood birds from the window, providing enthusiastic commentary and the occasional teeth-chattering pep talk. I’m not a lap cat in the traditional sense—I prefer to sit beside you like a loyal friend who respects personal space but secretly wants to hold your hand.
I’ll admit I’m a sensitive soul. Loud leaf blowers and vacuum cleaners offend my delicate sensibilities, and new people require a little time before they earn a ceremonial love bump. My daily dose of medicine mixed into my food helps keep my brave face on, and once I know someone is part of the inner circle, I bloom like a confident little flower. Watching that moment when I decide a guest is worthy of friendship—oh, the applause I receive! It’s quite the production.
My humans adore me, which makes the next part hard to say. They’re moving to a place that doesn’t welcome pets, and their hearts are heavy knowing they can’t bring me along. They’ve promised to find me a home filled with the same kindness, patience, and nightly play sessions I’ve grown up with. I’m hoping for a calm kingdom where I can rule the windowsills, maybe as the only feline queen, with people who understand that trust is a slow dance and I’m worth every step.
If you’ve been reading this and picturing a small, polite companion chirping good morning while you brew your coffee, we might be meant for each other. I come with my favorite toys, my trusty cat tree, and a lifetime supply of gratitude. All I need now is someone willing to open the door and say, “Welcome home, Phife.” Could that be you? 5 Amazing Things About Phife:
- I love the way she gives little love bumps to greet us when we get home.
- I love that she’s also a strong, independent woman (haha – but she really is!).
- She’s so much fun to play with. She was very easy to train b/c she was a brand new little kitten when we adopted her from Charlotte Animal control in 2018.
- So she doesn’t scratch anything she’s not supposed to.
- And she really just has the sweetest personality.
Phife’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished cat, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do.
They are hoping to find the right home where this deserving cat will be loved unconditionally and kept safe, happy, healthy and well-cared-for.
If you have room in your heart and home for Phife, then please offer a loving, forever home today. Phife can’t wait to show you the true meaning of unconditional love.

Behavior Issues: Phife is prone to anxiety. We give her compounded Prozac in liquid form in her food once per day. This helps her a lot. Things that tend to give her anxiety are when the yard crew comes through with the loud leaf blowers or when we’re vacuuming the house or when we have a lot of guests over who she isn’t used to. Once she gets to know our friends and is used to them, she is much less timid. We think some of the anxiety is caused by the foxes, raccoons, and feral cats in the neighborhood who she is very aware of when they’re in our yard.

Phife’s Personality
She is the sweetest little kitty and very playful. While she’s not a big meower, she loves to communicate with us by sort of chirping at us when she wants to play or if we’re behind schedule on feeding her. It’s so cute. She loves to show off her tricks, like scratching the scratch posts or scratch pads, and she loves to jump up for her toys on a little ledge we have and then get praise for it – again, it’s the cutest thing. She’s definitely not a lap cat, but she does love to hang out with us and be next to us during TV or reading time.
Phife’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
Phife loves little plastic rings, springs, little foil/crinkle balls, and especially think elastic hair bands. We play with those every night before bed by tossing them up in the air, and she knocks them down and pounces on them. She also really loves wand toys. Her favorite treats are Greenies and dried sardines or dried salmon chunks. Her absolute favorite thing to do is sit by the window (especially when the window is open) and watch the birds, bugs, and squirrels. She gets very excited and chatters at the little critters out the window which is extremely cute.
Cute Phife Story:
Because she’s timid with people she hasn’t met yet, it’s always so cute and heartwarming when she starts to appear and people spot her. People get so excited. And then with more time and additional visits, she comes closer and closer until she decides they’re worthy of a little love bump. Of course lots of treats help her trust people more and more.
Why is Phife Being Rehomed?
My wife and I are moving out of our current house to a situation that unfortunately is not pet friendly.
Phife’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
We’re looking for a family that will embrace this sweet, sweet girl as much as we have since May of 2018. Someone will need to be a little patient and allow time for Phife to warm up to them and trust them, but once she knows they’re the caretaker, it won’t take long at all. We’d love to know that the adopting home is okay taking in a cat who requires a little medication to stay anxiety free.
Ideally, this would be the only pet in the household. While she lives with another cat now and has from the beginning of her life, we think she’d thrive in a home where she has full reign. She has done fine with the other cat, but we think she’ll do better on her own. She may do better with a dog than another cat, but we have no way of knowing.
We would LOVE to stay in touch with the new family; however, we’re open to not being in touch if they’re not open to it.
