Meet Bunny – Pre-Loved Border Collie dog For Adoption by Owner in Antwerp New York

Bunny is a Female Border Collie dog for adoption to a very loving home in or near Antwerp, New York. This very special dog is 2 years 6 months old and weighs 65.

5 Amazing Things About Bunny:

-She is a cuddle bug; though she is large she loves to sit in your lap, give ample kisses, and give hugs.
-She knows her people and she loves her people, Bunny is incredibly loyal. She makes a great alert system for strangers and she has never run away or wandered too far. One time she got off of her run in the yard and she came and laid right next to the front door until I came and grabbed her.
-Bunny is incredibly healthy, low maintenance in that aspect. She has no pre-existing conditions or daily issues
-She is super playful! If you’re looking to have some fun with a dog and get a good giggle out of it- she’s your girl. Very silly while playing and she even lets me win sometimes just as a good sport.
-She’s a good communicator. While sometimes getting a little overzealous with new people, she is always very vocal about her needs and wants. Bunny has always been really good at letting me know exactly what she needs whether it be a walk, more water, some playtime, or going out to potty.

Bunny’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do.

They are hoping to find the right home where this deserving dog will be loved unconditionally and kept safe, happy, healthy and well-cared-for.

If you have room in your heart and home for Bunny, then please offer a loving, forever home today. Bunny can’t wait to show you the true meaning of unconditional love.

She is easily overstimulated and very protective of her main people, due to being a rescue from an abusive home. Introductions must be done delicately. She only shows signs of aggression until she has gotten used to the individual. When bringing her into new spaces or into the vet, I keep her muzzled until I’m confident that she no longer feels intimidated or scared of the situation. Once she calms down, she displays no sign of aggression.
She will get into things that are left out, like most dogs.

I have her food dish, a large bed, an indoor crate (can be used for timeouts, night time sleeping, leaving the house, etc. She is fully crate trained), leashes and harness, soft muzzle as well as training collars, and any in tact toys of hers (she has a couple that she has kept with her since she was a puppy).

Bunny’s Personality

Bunny is an incredibly loving and attention seeking dog. She adores going on long walks and exploring with you. Bunny is incredibly intelligent and loves to work on learning new tricks and being actively engaged.
She’s not a dog that entertains herself for long very well without getting bored. Bunny does require someone with an active lifestyle and love of dogs. She will absolutely thrive if given the environment and attention. She also absolutely loves fetch and tug of war and will happily play for hours before she takes a nap.
She does really well at adhering to a routine (knowing when it is time to wake up, eat, and go to bed) and has never had an accident in her crate, either overnight or being left alone for the day.

Bunny’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Bunny loves getting her toys stuffed with peanut butter, specifically puzzle treat boxes. She gets so excited for them and will spend a solid hour making sure every tiny bit is cleaned up.
She loves stuffed rabbits, part of why we named her Bunny (also due in part to the way she leaps around the yard after birds)
Bunny even enjoys chewing on raw carrots as a treat from time to time.
Her favorite daily activity is a morning run followed with some silly play time in the yard- after which she usually commits to a 2 hour nap
She loves playing mind games too, like hide n seek.
Her favorite treat that she gets every once in a while though, buffalo parts! We buy a pack of dehydrated bits from our local pet store and she always gets excited for the trachea.

Cute Bunny Story:

Bunny is an excellent comfort. We’ve both been through quite a bit together… but no matter what she has always been such an empathetic creature. She knows when you’re sad or crying and she will rush over to lick your face clean and physically help you get back onto your feet.
There have been times where I have been crouched on the ground, and she’ll climb underneath me and help lift me back onto my feet.
She’s a dog that can be a best friend.

Why is Bunny Being Rehomed?

After leaving an abusive relationship and taking Bunny with me, I began to experience seizures. It has now been a little over a year of having epilepsy and I am currently disabled an unemployed. I live with my family but they have other small dogs and children. The main reason she can’t really be around children or dogs is that she likes to chase and pin- and smaller creatures don’t have the ability to protect themselves from her or have the language to get her to stop in the moment.
Right now I’m in the unfortunate situation where I cannot provide the lifestyle she needs in terms of daily exercise, living space, and my full attention (due to the excess amount of doctors appointments and medications).
I want the best life possible for Bunny and right now she is cooped up and bored and I feel unable to physically provide the care she needs nor do I have the proper space for her. My current living situation is a studio apartment sized space, since I need to keep her separate from the little kids and dogs.
I really just want her to have a loving home where she can thrive and be the amazing border collie that she was meant to be.
The reason I wanted to speak with someone first before paying- I want to make sure that she is a good candidate and won’t be turned away due to her initial aggressive/protective nature.

Bunny’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

People that are dog lovers, specifically ones who have experience with training. She was not only a covid puppy, but she has only really had me in her life and hasn’t had much opportunity for training experiences outside of the home.
Ideally someone that loves the outdoors or going on adventures. Bunny loves camping and swimming and hiking (things I used to do with her before the seizures started).
Stable lifestyle is ideal, she does best when she knows the routine and flow of the day. She would be a fantastic emotional support dog for someone who has the ability to be physically active and put in the time to train.
She is fully potty trained and crate trained so she is able to be left at home for periods of time with no accidents to speak of- just be prepared to show her ample affection and help wind her down when you return.

Thank you for the consideration. If things were different for me medically/financially I would not be seeking this path, however I don’t see myself getting any better and I want to consider the long term health and happiness for my puppy. She is really so sweet and loving and protective.
Again, I do have to note she can appear scary. She has a loud bark and is the friendliest to strangers. I take care in introducing her to new people under controlled circumstances in order to avoid accidents taking place. She is an incredibly cautious dog, in that sense, and takes a while to let her guard down. However, I have seen her with trainers and with the vet– she takes very little time to calm down around a new person given the right environment and steps taken. Muzzling at first, slow and calm, and having the new person give her treats until you can see the tension dissipate and her tale is wagging again.
I feel the need to highlight this because she can be aggressive when she feels scared with new people but she is not a naturally aggressive dog. She has never once nipped at me, growled at me, or anything in that way. So, again, ideally someone with a good knowledge of border collies and dog training would be ideal. I’ve noticed that people that are used to these dogs and behaviors have no problem with her– some people are offput and scared by her though. She has been fully evaluated by the vet and she has no medical issue or rage syndrome to speak of– unfortunately it comes down to her trauma as a puppy and requires someone who is patient and willing to work with a rescue dog.
