Meet Layla, Maltese Terrier Mix Dog ADOPTED in Frisco TX Near Dallas Ft Worth

Much cuter than a bug’s ear, Layla is a sweet little girl dog with a white fluffy and wirey coat, bit brown eyes, floppy ears and a very loving personality. She appears to be a mix of Miniature Dachshund and Cairn Terrier or Maltese, although that is only a guess. It is certain, though, that this adorable 3 year old 25 pound bundle of love and licks will easily steal your heart.

Layla lives with her owners in Frisco, TX, near Dallas Ft Worth, Arlington and Plano. They love her so much, but after welcoming their first child, and with another on the way, it has become very clear that Layla is not happy with her new family members. Her anxiety around small children, common in small terrier and lap breeds, has caused her to snap and bare her teeth at the toddler in the home.

Her owners have had to make the very heart wrenching decision to find precious Layla a more suitable home, where she she rule the roost, get all the attention, and be free from her fear of little ones.

Layla is such a devoted little girl. She is so funny, too, like a little clown with fluffy paws and big brown eyes. She will be best suited as an only pet in a loving home with a retired dog lover or someone with lots of time to cherish her. She has a good bit of energy, and loves to play. She will need an owner who can take her for a daily walk and play with her.

Layla’s owners would dearly love to keep in touch with her in her new home, so hopefully that will be OK with you.

Sex of Pet: Female
Age of Pet: about 3
Spayed/Neutered?: Yes

Behavior Issues: Yes Layla has been in our family as a rescue for about 2 years. We’ve enjoyed her so much! But my husband and I had our first child a year ago and Layla hasn’t reacted well. We are not able to walk her as much as before the baby. She has become increasingly aggressive because she needs more exercise and a home without small children. Our daughter is walking now and able to approach Layla, which doesn’t suit her. She has a wonderful personality otherwise and is very smart. She is great at tricks and learns fast. But needs one on one attention.
Up To Date on Vaccinations: Yes
Gets along with cats: No
Gets along with dogs: Yes
Good with Children?: No
House Broken or Litter Trained?: Yes
Crate Trained?: Yes
Accessories Included: leash, collar, bag of food for transition into a new brand or example of what she eats now for continuation, and her favorite owl toy (many others are pretty ratty by now so you probably don’t want those). But she is happy with very little and likes to sleep on the ground by your bed. She does like dog beds, but she gets restless at night and will change sleeping locations multiple times. She actually doesn’t like sleeping ON the bed. She will huff at you for rolling over! haha!

Layla’s Personality

Her big, unique personality
Her smarts/ability to do tricks
Her playful nature
She’s so cute!!
Her willingness to travel with you anywhere

Layla’s Current Home Environment

House with a yard and another (older, lazier) dog for her to wrestle with. We did have a baby a year ago and have another on the way. She hasn’t reacted well to being approached by a wobbly toddler and doesn’t get the exercise she needs to stay mentally stimulated.

Layla’s Current Family:

We have an older dog (he acts like a lazy cat most of the time) and Layla. She adds spunk to our lives but does need a lot of exercise and stimulation as she is very smart. Our family is growing with another baby on the way and a toddler under foot. We are calm for the most part without a lot of parties or chaos around.

Layla’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Layla LOVES any food. And I mean ANY. Leave a bag of chips on the side table when you leave the house? It will be gone! But that means she’s not a picky eater of dog food and is very motivated to learn a new trick if it means getting a treat or any kind. I can’t say she has a favorite food as she likes it all!

She loves anything that squeaks and does carry stuffed animals or stuffed dog toys around for a long time before she gets a wild hair and skins them, removing fluff. She has never been destructive of furniture or personal items and can be left in the house re-range without issues (other than any unsecured food!!!). She also fetches a ball without hesitation and will bring it back and place it gently in your hand for another go! She would excel at agility training!

Cute Layla Story:

She loves to talk to you. Not bark, but a low, conversational like howl. It’s unlike any other dog I’ve ever met! When you come home after being gone (especially when my husband gets home from work in the evenings) she will run through her day in a back and forth conversation with you.
Layla “rururuuuuu”
human “oh, really? then what?”
layla “ruuuuuru ru ru”
human “tell me about it.”
layla “ru”
its honestly the most awesome, hilarious thing!! She is chalk full of personality and having to re home her has been a very hard choice that my husband and I made for not only us, but for her as well. She deserves the BEST!!

Why is Layla Being Rehomed?

She is not reacting well to our 1 year old and has been getting restless without getting daily walks like she deserves. We run her in the yard but it is not enough. She is extremely smart and requires stimulation and needs to get her energy out. We want the best for her and have had to be hard on her around the baby which is not fun for her or us. She has been a good companion to us and when it was just my husband and I, we love love loved her to pieces.

It is hard to admit that we don’t have the time to give her anymore, but like I said, we want what is best for her and for us. She would do extremely well with a home with older (teenage) children or a house with her one person that can give her the time and energy she needs. She is a very enjoyable and fun dog in her own right and in the right situation will be a stellar companion.

Layla’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Older (teenage) or no children and a home that she will get frequent walks. She would do well with another pet to wrestle with or by herself if properly stimulated.

Additional Comments:

She has a lot of love to give and a lot of life left to give it! <3
