Chuco’s Personality

When he’s not recovering from major surgery or is not feeling well, Chuco is a HAPPY pup! He LOVES nature, he loves running and playing with other dogs his size. He’s young, active, playful, respectful and quiet for a chihuahua. He doesn’t bark as much as people might anticipate.
He might take a while to trust and get close to others but once he knows you, he loves you. He will get excited to see the people who have cared for him or that he’s familiar with like my neighbors, grounds people at the park and other dogs.
Since he’s been injured he’s not up for playing with other dogs as much, much less with bigger dogs. He’s cautious and wiser now about his safety, which is great.
Like most young dogs, he needs to be stimulated with games, treats, puzzles and other challenges, otherwise he gets restless and anxious.
He’s familiar with Spanish since that’s what he’s heard most of his life.

Chuco’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

He LOVES the outdoors and deserves a safe backyard.
Before getting injured he’s loved balls, socks, treat puzzles, small stuffed animals and congs.
He loves chicken, salmon and cod treats.
He’s allergic to beef, dairy, peanuts and carrots.

Cute Chuco Story:

I work in theater and he’s been with me to 5 work experiences with different cast members and teams.
He’s lightened the environment in every single experience.
There was one time when I brought him to tech and I asked him to sit in the spot light and he let me take pictures. The whole cast was enamored by his charm and amazed that he’d listen, be willing to sit in the spotlight by himself and patient to allow me to take pictures.

Why is Chuco Being Rehomed?

Chuco had emergency spinal surgery and was diagnosed with IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) in May 2024 from which he’s had a slow but promising recovery from, until Friday (Nov. 8th) when he re-injured himself. Due to draining all my accounts from the first surgery, I’m unable to pay for a full re-evaluation, treatment and recovery.
I did take him to my local, affordable hospital in the Bronx for an evaluation on Saturday. He has begun a conservative and low budget treatment of rest and meds from a vet visit yesterday, but I’m afraid it won’t be enough.

Chuco’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

I’m looking for a guardian angel(s) who can love and care for him as much as I do AND have the means (time and money) to ensure a better probability of his recovery or potentially life with a disability. Someone/a family who is financially stable, calm and has the time to be with him. IDEALLY someone who has easier access to nature and/or has a safe and contained backyard and living environment with limited to no stairs or furniture he can jump on. I can barely afford having one dog, but I’m sure he would be so happy having another pet friend and companion.

I’m grateful for this service as an option for struggling pet guardians like me who loves animals and want to ensure they live a happy life when I don’t have the means to provide it. Thank you in advance for your help and support. Chuco and I appreciate it with our whole hearts.
