Looking for a German Shepherd dog for adoption in Cherry Hill, NJ? Prim would love to be considered for the position of your cherished family companion.

Prim: The Devoted Door-Greeter, Cuddle Champion, and Backyard Philosopher

Every day, without fail, Prim waits at the door — not just standing there, but waiting with her whole heart. Ears perked. Tail still. Eyes full of that kind of love that hits you right in the chest the moment you walk in. Some dogs fetch. Some guard. Prim? Prim welcomes — with the quiet loyalty of someone who has made your heart her entire world.

Prim is a beautiful 9-year-old German Shepherd, and while she may technically be considered a “senior,” someone clearly forgot to tell her joints — or her spirit. She still loves her walks, still gallops after yard sticks like they’re Olympic javelins, and still has the kind of boundless emotional presence that makes a house feel like home.

She’s a bit of an old soul and a kid at heart. One moment she’s curled up beside the children she adores, gently snoring with her paw touching theirs. The next, she’s trotting outside to bask in a patch of sunshine, nose twitching, eyes half-closed like some furry backyard philosopher. And when it’s dinner time? She’s polite. She’ll sit nearby, never begging, just quietly trusting that love — and kibble — will come her way. (It always does.)

Prim’s story is a bittersweet one. Her human, a devoted single dad, has been facing serious health challenges, including multiple hospitalizations. Despite his best efforts — and the loving help of his kids when they’re with him — it’s become clear that Prim deserves more than they can give right now. And that’s where you come in.

Prim has no health problems and no behavior issues. She’s house-trained, loves kids, and gets along with other dogs. She hasn’t been around cats or toddlers, but there’s not an ounce of aggression or anxiety in her. Just gentle loyalty and a bit of goofy charm. Her ideal home? A family with time to offer, a yard to explore, and maybe even some kids to call her own. Walks are a must (she insists), as are snuggles and the occasional belly rub.

If you happen to live in or near South Jersey, there’s one extra wish from the family: Prim’s teenage daughter (yes, her human) would love to stay in touch — maybe a visit now and then, or just a photo to know her best friend is doing well. It’s a small request, made from a place of deep love and heartbreak.

So, if you’re looking for a dog who will greet you at the door like you’re the most important person in the universe…
If you want a companion who knows when to play and when to just be
If you believe that home is where the heart is — and sometimes the heart has four legs and a stick in its mouth — then Prim may be your girl.

Why is Prim Being Rehomed?

I am a single father and have been ill for a while now. I have had a few hospitalizations recently and it is becoming more difficult for me to care for her. I have a 15 year old daughter and a 13-year-old son. They do most of the care related to Prim, but they are only here a few days a week. We feel she would be better with a family that can be there for her around the clock. This is a very difficult and emotional decision, but it is best for Prim and my children.

Prim’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

We would love a family that can provide time and attention to Prim. Ideally with some children because she loves kids. She hasn’t been around a lot of little ones so I don’t know how she would do, but her personality is not aggressive or anxious so I imagine she would be fine with small children. Ideally, there would be a fenced in yard and a place for her to play outside. She should be taken for walks so it would be important that someone could do that

This may be a long shot, but my 15-year-old would love to be able to visit her, so if she can stay somewhere close to South Jersey, that would be ideal. She also would love to get pictures of Prim from the new owners
