Cute Jake and Mollie Story:
Jake is very in tune with my husband and his condition. He knows when hubs is having a spell and alerts me. One evening, Jake urgently came outside to let me know hubs was having a problem. Once I figured it out, Jake led me to hubs just in time. Jake never left his side and even slept with him all night.
Jake is incredibly smart, he loves to eat ice and has taught himself how to get it directly from the door dispenser. I thought my dispenser was leaky until I actually saw Jake pushing the button on his own. I changed the setting to water and it all stopped with the first wet face.
Jake is an avid TV watcher and barks at the animals he sees. I’ve never known a dog that actually watched the TV.
Mollie is such a sweetheart. If you are having a “down” day, she will shower you with love and kisses. She is calm and gentle. She “pets” you by stroking your arm with her paw. It’s sweet. Her favorite sleepy time thing is to have the curve of her ear stroked until she falls asleep. She also loves belly skin rubs and will keep you warm all night long.
They are both respectful and polite but love to rough-house and wrestle with each other.
Why are Jake and Mollie Being Rehomed?
My husband has dementia and his condition is progressing more quickly than we expected. I can’t handle walking and taking care of these babies much longer because of their size and strength and I can’t leave hubs alone at home. We do not have a big enough backyard for them to get the right stimulation or exercise. Their life is limited because of our limitations and that’s not fair.
Jake and Mollie’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
There is no perfect family, but a family that has a big heart and experience with this breed would be ideal. A big back yard with lots of love and laughter would make these dogs super happy. They are not yard dogs and live inside with the exception of potty-time or walks. They have rarely been left alone but can adapt easily. They love to ride in the car and usually go everywhere we do.
These babies are Pampered Pets for sure.
This is very hard for me to do. I have never done this before and wish I could see a way to keep them. We just don’t have a back yard that is suitable and don’t have the $12K it would cost to pay for a privacy fence. We got them as puppies and did not realize how quickly my husband’s condition would deteriorate. I retired in January 2024 to care for him as he can no longer be left alone. Dogs have always been a part of my life and I take that responsibility seriously. It’s not fair for them to be forced to live a sedentary and lonely life just because I do. They deserve better.
You should also know that I am open to fostering since I believe a small dog would give my husband great comfort as his condition continues to get worse. We call it dog therapy. We will either foster or volunteer at a shelter.
