Looking for a German Shepherd mix dog for adoption in Lacombe, Alberta? Meet Piper — a loyal, affectionate girl eager to become your devoted family companion.

Piper’s Story: The Cuddle Connoisseur With a Heart of Gold

You know that scene in every good movie where the main character finds someone who just gets them? That’s Piper. She’s the dog who knows when your heart hurts before you do. The dog who hears the snap of a crinkly toy and transforms into a goofy, tail-wagging goofball. The dog who hikes like she’s training for a wilderness marathon, but cuddles like a certified emotional support marshmallow.

Piper isn’t just a pet. She’s a best friend with fur. A four-legged therapist with the uncanny ability to sniff out sadness and replace it with slobbery affection and soulful, chocolate-brown eyes that say, “I’ve got you.”

At 10 years old, Piper is in her golden era — a perfect mix of mellow maturity and playful spirit. She’s got the smarts of a German Shepherd and the heart of a golden retriever. Want to go for a hike? She’s already at the door, leash in mouth. Need a co-pilot for your next coffee run? Piper will gladly accompany you, especially if there’s a chance of scoring a pup cup at the drive-thru. Her recall is solid, her cuddles are elite, and she’ll make you feel like the most important person in the world every single day.

But like all great characters, Piper has her quirks.

Thunderstorms? Absolute nightmare fuel. She’ll shake like a leaf and look at you like you summoned the lightning. Nail trims? Let’s just say she respectfully declines. And while she’s generally good with cats and laid-back male dogs, she’s not keen on sharing her space (or snacks) with other female pups. We get it. A queen needs her castle. And preferably her castle doesn’t include a crate — those freak her out, too.

Piper’s anxiety is part of her story, not her flaw. She’s on meds that help, and she’s looking for a human who understands that love sometimes means sitting through the storm together — literally and emotionally.

She’d thrive in a calm, stable home with someone around most of the time. A country setting would be ideal, but she’s flexible. What matters most is that she’s near you. She doesn’t just want to be your dog — she wants to be your shadow, your hiking buddy, your warm-footed nap partner, your silent supporter when life gets hard.

Piper is being rehomed through no fault of her own. Her person is moving overseas and believed — with a full heart — that family would step up. But life threw a curveball. And now, instead of boarding a plane with peace of mind, they’re heartbroken, hoping someone out there sees what they see in Piper: pure, loyal, once-in-a-lifetime love.

So here we are, holding the leash and hoping. Hoping someone will see this beautiful soul and think, That’s my dog.

If you’re that someone — if your couch has room, your schedule has time, and your heart has a Piper-shaped space — she’s waiting. Her bed, toys, food, even her pet cam (so you can check in on her when you’re out) are packed and ready. All that’s missing is you.

Apply to adopt Piper today. She’s ready to love you more deeply, more loyally, and more joyfully than you ever thought possible.

She can read your emotions and will come running if she thinks you are upset and try to comfort you.
She criss crosses when on the leash sometimes. If off she has good recall.

She’s not a fan of getting her nails cut.

She does not like small spaces like a crate and will tend to freak out.

If you throw a ball or a toy she may try to jump up so we tell her “back!” And she will back off and give you room to toss it. She just gets excited that it’s play time.

Piper’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

She loves the jolly ball with the handle, crinkly toys, bones, frisbees, balls, sticks. She enjoys liver treats, pup cups from Starbucks, bits of meat. Her fav activities are hiking, walking and car rides or to just be wherever you are.

Why is Piper Being Rehomed?

I am moving out of the country. Originally two of my daughters had said they would take her and then after I had made my plans they backed out. One has her own animals and thinks it would be too much. The other doesn’t have a big enough place and worries she wouldn’t be home enough for Piper.

Piper’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

If they don’t have any other dogs it would be perfect but if they do have dogs a more laid back male would work best.

I feel a country home would work best as she would love that but would be also fine in the city with some walks. She does not do well to be left alone for long. On average it’s 3-5 hours but with being in a new home and without other animals her anxiety may come out more. We use a pet cam to keep an eye on things. I can even send that along.
