Type of Pet: dog
Breed of Pet: Golden Retriever mix
Sex of Pet: Female
Age of Pet: 5 years
Weight: 45 pounds
Spayed/Neutered?: Yes
Health Problems: Yes Seasonal skin allergies
Behavior Issues: Yes Juno has a lot of anxiety and fear when meeting new people or dogs, and is often reactive and unable to regulate herself so I tend to keep her more isolated now. She worked with three different trainers during her first year of life, but it was also during the pandemic so the consistency of that initial training was probably not adequate for her. She has separation anxiety as well, but I give her trazodone daily to help her with that.
Up To Date on Vaccinations: Yes
Gets along with cats: No
Gets along with dogs: Yes
Good with Children?: Yes
House Broken or Litter Trained?: Yes
Crate Trained?: No
Accessories Included: She has her bed and a few bones and stuffy‘s, and any uneaten food/supplements (I have her on some omega chews to help with her skin allergies). She is also on flea, tick, and heart guard medication that I keep her up-to-date on. I would also of course give her leashes and her collar and whatever else is needed.
Juno’s Personality
Juno is a bit of a complicated animal. She’s not overly affectionate, but she will snuggle on occasion. She loves to sleep next to her person but will also sleep on a dog bed on the floor. She is very communicative, and will let her person know when she needs to go outside, or when she’s looking for playtime or attention. She is very patient, however, and smart – but sometimes her anxiety overrules the good parts of her. She has had other canine friends in the past, and does better with males.
Juno’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
She is very food motivated and loves her kong filled with treats and peanut butter. She occasionally will chew on a flavored Nylabone. She has one or two squeaky plush toys that she will occasionally play with as well. Other than that, she just really enjoys being with her person as a companion.
Cute Juno Story:
I used to bring her to the assisted living home that I worked at, and she enjoyed being around the residents and listening to them talk to her. She also likes to howl at emergency sirens, and it’s very funny to listen to, as if they’re talking to her.
Why is Juno Being Rehomed?
Sadly, my I am experiencing some health issues that are creating difficulties with me working full-time, so I need to move to a smaller place and most places that I can afford don’t allow for animals or are in areas where there’s too much stimulus for Juno to manage her anxieties effectively. She’s still young and would thrive better in an environment where she can run and play more freely. I feel like she’s terribly lonely and needs someone who can devote more time and energy to her training with at least one other consistent canine friend.
Juno’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
I think that Juno would do wonderfully in a home with one or two alpha parents who have experience with anxiety ridden dogs, and perhaps at least one other dog. I exercise her for almost an hour a day, but she commonly will sleep most of the rest of the time that she’s not outside on a walk. I think she’s bored and lonely and needs more time to run around outside, so maybe somewhere with a fenced in yard in the country.
Rehoming Juno is a very heart-wrenching decision that I have been contemplating for over a year. I love her very much, but it is just too much for me – especially in trying to manage my own health issues – to take care of an animal who has so much anxiety and fears. I did rescue her when she was three months old, and it was during the beginning of the pandemic so resources were more limited back then. I wish that I had been able to help for more, but I know that there’s someone out there who would be able to give her a better life than I can.
