Diesel is a sweetheart with so much love to give – he enjoys playing with people and fur friends alike, and sticks are among his favorite toys. Though young, Diesel is a smart guy and has learned some basic obedience commands and can’t wait to please his people.

Diesel is a true Shepherd with a high prey drive and lots of energy so he thrives on lots of activity. He also loves cuddling on the couch – a true snugglebutt! Diesel can’t wait to come to his furever home, will it be with you?

Diesel’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog. They are hoping to find a new home for Diesel where this special dog will be cherished and kept safe, happy, and healthy for life.

All About Diesel – German Shepherd Dog For Adoption in Hamilton Ontario

♥ Color / Coat Type: Blanket black & tan coat; medium length fur
♥ Age of Pet: 16 months (born 26 November 2020)
♥ Size of Pet: 70-80lbs
♥ Health Problems: No health issues. Went to the vet mid March to recieve booster shots (DA2PP, rabies, lyme) and is clear of heartworms. Takes NexGard Spectra for flea & tick prevention between April and November. Vet said everything looks very healthy and normal.
♥ Behavior Issues: Maybe
Diesel is very strong and tends to pull hard on leash which can make it hard to control him, however he does little better with a gentle leader. Sometimes when he is excited I’ve had difficulty stopping him from jumping up on visitors. He also struggles with recall when excited—and will never pass an opportunity to chase a rabbit, squirrel, or to greet the neighbours—a home with a fenced-in backyard would be in his best interests. On occasion he has chewed furniture and relieved himself indoors when left alone but it is not habitual. He has zero history of aggression, resource guarding, or excessive barking.
♥ Gets along with: Older children, new people, dog-friendly dogs.
♥ Pet is: Fixed, fully vaccinated, housebroken, microchipped.
♥ Food: Diesel eats “Authority” Large Breed Adult Lamb & Rice Formula kibble. He eats 2 cups in the morning (~7-9am) and 1.5-2 cups in the evening (~5-7pm) depending on how active he’s been. Some of his favourite treats are dino bones, chopped boiled eggs, pig ears, yak cheese sticks, sweet potato chews, and frozen Kongs stuffed with peanut butter & lactose-free plain yogurt. Poultry and diary products give Diesel a bad belly so these are avoided.

Diesel’s Personality

Diesel is a very energetic, excitable, and playful dog. He loves to play fetch with sticks and balls, as well as running free-range in the backyard.

He is a very tough chewer so I use durable toys (eg; Kong, Nylabone, Jolly Balls, generally tough rubber made toys) otherwise they will be destroyed. He is very affectionate and loving—he absolutely loves to be around people—but is also good with being left alone regularly for up to 4-6 hours without problem. No history of aggression with other people or animals.

He gets along well playing with other dogs around his size & energy level. He has met children as young as 4-6 years old and got along with them without issues. He is good with his basic commands (sit, down, stay, come, drop, leave it) but struggles with them when excited. He also struggles with pulling on lead and jumping on visitors when excited. He has a really healthy appetite and is very food and play motivated. Overall he is a big dorky goofball who loves to play and get affection more than anything.
