At six years old, Skipper is still bursting with kitten-like energy. He’s a sleek gray tabby tuxedo with expressive eyes and a personality big enough to fill a room — or at the very least, serenade it. He’s famously vocal and not shy about sharing his thoughts on the weather, the mailman, or his daily dinner menu. (Fancy Feast and treats are always worthy of commentary.)
Skipper is no lap cat — he’s got things to do, birds to watch, imaginary mice to battle under the covers (“bed mice” is his signature game), and the household to patrol. But when the day slows down, you’ll find him curled up at the foot of your bed, purring quietly, making sure you know he’s there.
He’s endlessly curious, incredibly intelligent, and always up for a challenge — especially if it involves a string toy, an unopened bag of kibble, or new sights and smells in the garage (his favorite “evening getaway”). He’s the kind of cat who needs something to do and someone to engage with — a house where he can be entertained, appreciated, and occasionally applauded.
Skipper is being rehomed with great love. His devoted owner has done everything possible to provide him and his brother, Max, with the care and companionship they’ve known since kittenhood. But with a move on the horizon, declining health, and the passing of her husband — who was Skipper’s primary playmate — she’s made the difficult and selfless decision to find him a new home where he can continue to thrive.
Skipper has a few quirks, as all great characters do. He prefers a tidy litter box (who doesn’t?) and may voice his displeasure if it’s not up to par — sometimes just outside of it. With more attention and play, this behavior has already shown signs of improving. He’s also a bit of a solo act — other cats aren’t really his thing — so he’ll shine best as the only feline in your life.
What Skipper truly needs is a home that can keep up with his clever mind, appreciate his chatter, and offer him the affection and playtime he craves. A family or multi-person household would be ideal, especially one with older children who might enjoy a furry “little brother” with big energy and a bigger personality.
If you’re looking for a cat who will make you laugh, keep you company, and announce the arrival of every squirrel in your yard, Skipper just might be your guy.

Skipper’s Personality
Skipper is an indoor cat (which is a key reason why he hasn’t been microchipped; I have thought about it, but haven’t had the time yet to get it done). Full of energy, he is more kitten-like than a typical cat of his age.
He has the personality equivalent to a Border Collie if he were a dog: He’s very smart, as well as curious, so needs to be kept busy / entertained. Skipper loves to play and exercise. He’s not exactly a lap cat, but will come to spend time with me to be petted. He is a rather vocal boy, with a loud voice to make sure everyone knows he’s around and if he wants something. I’ve always said he must have been an opera singer in a previous life.
Skipper’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
– Skipper loves cat treats; I’ve been giving him Friskies, but occasionally I’ll buy other brands and he enjoys those as well
– The dry food he eats is Purina One, and he especially likes what comes from a freshly opened bag
– He also enjoys getting Fancy Feast canned food every day
– He loves playing with string-based toys, as well as playing “bed mice”. (Bed mice is something my husband started with him several years ago, where Skipper chases after the lump created by a moving hand or fist under the bed covers. Note: It helps to have thick bedding that doesn’t mind the claws when doing this. I have an old comforter on the bed along with a bedspread. Also, a gym sock can be used to protect the hand if needed.)
Cute Skipper Story:
Our home is a 2-story house. When Skipper first came to us, he loved checking out both floors. Many times he would go running up and down the stairs so fast it was like a road runner cartoon…zoom….zoom….zoom… It was funny to watch! He’s slowed down a bit since then, but he still does occasionally race up and down the stairs.
Why is Skipper Being Rehomed?
I am looking to rehome Skipper (and his brother Max) because my husband, who was retired, passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago. Since then, I’ve been trying to continue looking after Max and Skipper at the same level the two of us (mostly him) did.
But with my declining health and various time commitments, I’ve started realizing that by myself I am no longer able to achieve the same level of care they had while both of us were alive. Plus, I will be moving halfway across the country in the next year or so, and these guys don’t travel well. So I’m hoping they both can find another home in the Houston area (whether together or separately) that will give them the attention and care they deserve.
I will gladly provide any setups / supplies I have to help with this transition. Since I am also rehoming his brother Max, I may need to split the supplies if they end up going to different homes.
Skipper’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
The ideal home for Skipper would probably be one where there’s more than one person in the household, possibly a family. The key thing is, for Skipper to be happy, he needs to be kept occupied. It’s tough for me to do very much of that by myself, particularly working a full-time job and having other responsibilities.
He may do best in a home as an only cat. My husband was able to get Skipper to accept Max, but generally he doesn’t appear to get along with other cats.
Other than these things, a loving home with a cozy place where he can occasionally curl up and grab a nap would be wonderful.
Skipper likes spending some time in the garage. I let him and his brother out there (with the garage door to the outside closed) for an hour or two in the evenings for a change of pace.
Being that they are indoor cats, they can get bored, even in a 2-story house. It provides them another place to hang out that’s different from inside. (Plus it gives me a chance to have dinner without dealing with cat fur in it while they’re trying to see what I’m eating.)
