Brody’s Personality

Labrador retriever mix adoption charleston scBrody is a couch potato. He spends most of his time lazily moving around to different nap spots, but will immediately perk up at the chance for a walk. While he is remarkably calm 90% of the time, certain things (particularly someone coming to the door) can trigger the zoomies.

He is very food motivated and will do anything you ask for a treat. He is an independent soul and prefers to be near you/in the same room, but is not a lap dog. Brody is very playful.

He can be mouthy when he gets over excited, though is easily redirected if you encourage him to grab a toy or bone instead. He also loves to play rough with other dogs and can be very vocal while doing so.

It can sound a bit scary, but he is by no means aggressive or malicious. He enjoys one-on-one time with us, but if he is around other dogs, he is best suited for small group play (limited to two other dogs max). Brody is a loveable dog with lots of personality.

Brody’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Brody’s favorite activity in the world is going for long walks and giving everything a thorough sniff. He will do absolutely anything for food – his #1 talent is “find it” where he can sniff out a treat no matter where you try hide it.

One of his favorite foods is peanut butter on a lick mat, but he is not a picky eater and only every turns down spinach. He also loves spending time in the water at the beach or lake, despite not being a very graceful swimmer.

When he’s not out exploring the world, he spends most of the day lounging around, keeping watch out the window or rolling over for a good belly rub.

Labrador retriever mix adoption charleston scCute Brody Story:

Our favorite memories with Brody involve being in the water. I think the first time he saw the beach was the best day of his life. We let him off leash and he took off in a full sprint down the sand into the water. He had been in lakes before, but never anywhere with waves, and he made it his personal mission to try to eat all the waves that came towards him.

Watching him learn how to walk on loose sand was also particularly funny – he lifted each of his legs so gingerly and didn’t understand why the earth was moving underneath him. By the end though, he got the hang of it and him and I were running up and down the beach together.

Why is Brody Being Rehomed?

My wife and I are starting a family and sadly don’t feel that Brody will be a good fit in a house with a baby. We fear that his random zoomies and constant wrestling with our other dog will make for an unsafe environment for a small child.

Labrador retriever mix adoption charleston scBrody’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Brody would thrive in an only-dog household without very young children. He would benefit from a predictable schedule with regular walks. Access to a backyard is a plus and would serve as a good outlet for his zoomies, but is not an absolute requirement.

He would do best with a more experienced dog owner, as he behaves great with consistent discipline and rule enforcement. We are open to traveling to neighboring states if we found the right applicant for Brody, so please don’t limit the search to South Carolina.
