Sophie’s Personality

Sophie is a year-and-a-half doxin mix rescued initially from Puerto Rico. She is a lovely, royal, and very affectionate dog with lots of energy. Sophie is social and playful in the park with different sizes and ages, but she tends to be protective in the house. Sophie is a treat-motivated dog with a lot of potential.

Sophie’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Sophie loves to catch a frisbee or ball. She loves any dog food and homemade beef jerky or homemade dog food. I have never fed human food.

Cute Sophie Story:

She loves to be sucked by a handy size vacuum cleaner. She also loves belly rubs. On her coat, especially the small vacuum brush. Her teeth are in excellent condition because she loves toothbrushes – she might try to chew and eat!! She does something funny in front of her favorite dog (especially for a male dog). She flips and shows her belly when she meets a dog who is her type (even she lies down and shows her belly to her favorite chihuahua).

Why is Sophie Being Rehomed?

A year ago, we moved from a small walk-up apartment in NYC to a big new dog-friendly building with a dog run and other amenities. My decision was for a better environment for my dogs.

However, Sophie started to develop behavioral issues after we moved in. Taking an elevator is a critical issue for her. She doesn’t like the elevator experience – she gets nervous before getting in and then scared when she is in. The worst part is if someone is standing when the door is open. She barks and reacts badly.

Sophie’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

She loves being outside because she enjoys sitting on the patio throughout the year and off-leash area in the park – she can’t be happier. The best home for Sophie would be one in the suburb or a house with a yard. She is active, so it would be great if she had a company (probably, the same size or larger).

It’s a hard decision. But what pushed me to create the application was that my friend and other tenants from the same building advised me to find a better environment for Sophie.

I have another smaller, very easy-going dog that was adopted before Sophie. They are always playing together, but the other dog tends to follow what Sophie does due to the power balance. The other dog has been picking up the bad habit from Sophie.
