Pepe miniature pinscher mix dog adoption brooklyn ny

Meet Pepe, a MinPin Miniature Dachshund mix dog for adoption by owner in Brooklyn NY.

Looking for a Miniature Pinscher or Miniature Dachshund for adoption in Brooklyn NY and area? Just 8 years old and weighing 24 lbs, this lovely MinPin Miniature Dachshund mix dog has been neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, crate-trained, housebroken, leash trained, and obedience trained. Pepe is best suited to a home with just one or two adult dog lovers in a rural setting.

Pepe’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their beloved dog. They are dearly hoping to find a wonderful new home for Pepe with owners who will cherish and keep Pepe safe, happy, and healthy for the rest of his life.

Pepe is a great dog in a not-so-great environment. This small dog experiences a lot of anxiety which is triggered by all the noise, other dogs and people in Brooklyn, where he lives in a small apartment with his owners.

Pepe has been assessed by dog behaviorists who have told his owners that Pepe is reacting to triggers in his day-to-day life, over which his owners have little if any control.  They have been advised that Pepe needs a quiet life in a more rural location where there isn’t the constant commotion that goes with living in a large city.

We are looking for a special home for Pepe with a dog lover who understands how anxiety influences aggressive behavior. He needs a home where there is a solid routine, a nice fenced yard he can call his own, and someone who will cherish Pepe, (warts and all) and give him a safe, happy and healthy life for the rest of his days.

In exchange, you can be assured of receiving love and companionship from a very special little dog, and the knowledge that you have made a big difference in a small dog’s life.

If you have room in your heart and home for Pepe, please complete our online meeting request form. Once received, our Brooklyn Dog Rehoming team will make arrangements for you to meet Pepe and his owners. Adopt this adorable Minpin Dachshund mix today.

There is a $100.00 adoption processing fee. Supplies, accessories, and veterinary records will be included.

The key to reducing or eliminating the “fight” response in dogs is to provide a quiet, serene and predictable environment that will calm the dog’s nervous system, thereby reducing anxiety and fear, and allowing the dog’s true personality and ability to love to shine through.

Pepe’s Personality

Pepe is capable of great love and affection when he is not stressed out. He LOVES belly rubs, loves running around off-leash where he won’t encounter too many scary things like strangers or strange dogs (some are fine). Pepe is super food motivated and very clever. We have been able to teach him lots of tricks thanks to his love of food and his intelligence.

Pepe also has a lot of energy and is very communicative with his voice and gestures. He tells you when he wants more food, water or attention (to be pet, to play).  He loves to play with squeaky toys, chew on good chewy treats and chase a ball.

Pepe is also a bit of a scaredy-cat and does not know how to control himself when afraid. He has bitten us a few times, mostly, we believe, due to the stress and fear he has on a constant basis in the city and his inability to ever really calm down here.  We believe that this behavior would be unlikely to reoccur in the right home environment.  When afraid, he has a hard time going away from the thing he is afraid of and sometimes acts offensively rather than defensively.

He struggles to cope in our small apartment with two people moving around, which seems to overwhelm him. He does well with just one person and we believe it would be best for him to be with a woman.  He seems to have some fear of men and tall people, though perhaps with the right man in the right environment he would be ok.

Pepe would do best in a quiet house with a spacious yard and someone who will take him on long walks, ideally with the opportunity to run around off-leash as often as possible. It would also be great to find him a home with someone who has experience with dog anxiety and reactivity. As far as reactive dogs go, Pepe is not dangerous because he is so small but we wish for him to live a life where he will experience fewer triggers, lots of love and learn to manage himself in a more supportive environment.

Why is Pepe Being Rehomed?

With help from a behaviorist, we understand that Pepe is triggered by so many things that are unavoidable in the city environment. We cannot keep him under the threshold in Brooklyn and need assistance in rehoming him to a good home in the country where he will be able to experience less stress.

Though it is heartbreaking to us because we love him so much, we feel that rehoming him to the country where he can run around and express his dogginess is the most compassionate move for him even though it means we have to let go of him. We really believe the right home for him must exist out there.

Thank you for your interest in this deserving MinPin Miniature Dachshund mix dog for adoption in Brooklyn NY.
