Oliver’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do:
Despite our best efforts, it’s now clear to us that having Ollie in a home with two boys under the age of 5 is not good for his well-being or ours.
Unfortunately, Oliver, also affectionately known as Ollie, has become very nervous with two small children in the home. Like many smaller breed dogs living with littles, he has become anxious and more vocal, making it clear that it is in Oliver’s best interests to find a quieter home with no small children where he can thrive in an established routine. Oliver would love nothing more than to be the true star of the show in his new home, where he can be thrive with lots of love, attention, exercise, and devotion.
Oliver’s owners are hoping to find the right home for their cherished dog:
No cats, only children if they are mature enough to handle Brooklyn’s most idiosyncratic dog, someone who really understands dog aggression stemming from fear and the need for positive reinforcement / making Ollie feel safe. Someone who can be relied on to walk Ollie 3-4 times a day, feed him and keep him up to date on vet appointments.
Ideally, for Ollie, a home that’s quieter than ours, where he can soak up all the attention he deserves, never go too long between scratches, and make sure the crusty-wusties (definitely the biological term) are regularly cleared from his eyes.

Oliver’s Personality
He’s neurotic and grumpy a lot of the time (a good friend insists Oliver would sound like Gilbert Gottfried if he were able to talk) but is ultimately very loving and sweet. Oliver is smaller than most things, and he knows it, which makes his life hard, but he’s very much his own dog (although he might be part cat). He enjoys lots of attention and exercise.
Oliver is an Amazing Companion Because:
1. Oliver always loves getting vigorously scratched, even when he’s being incredibly surly and resource guarding. If you can manage to carefully get your hand on him when he has something like a bully stick, he will grudgingly enjoy your scratches (with some grumbling), provided you don’t try to just start petting him (heaven forbid).
2. Oliver loves tug-of-war (recommend using only one hand at a time to help him feel safe), and sometimes fetch, and in either case will go from “YES!” to “over it” without warning.
3. He puts his butt on someone’s foot to feel secure, or when he curls up along your back when you’re sleeping.
4. He manages to wedge himself into bed or couch pillows to sleep in hilarious ways, and how his hair looks when he finally wakes up.
5. As a reflection of Ollie’s strong denning / crate instinct, he will find dark rooms (usually bathrooms) with cool floors to rest on, and it’s always hilarious when he surprises someone who just closed the door and turned on the lights (he never appears to be startled in any way when this happens, just sort of lifts his head up and slowly realizes that maybe he needs to give you some space).

Oliver’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
Ollie loves tug of war, fetch (rope toys, anything that squeaks), any meat, cucumbers, and carrots.
Some dogs will eat anything. Ollie is not one of those dogs, which isn’t to say he won’t eat anything dangerous (he’ll unfortunately eat raisins if they get dropped), but you need to experiment to see if he will actually eat (and not just lick/drop) whatever it is you’re trying to feed him.
Cute Oliver Story:
Ollie is wonderful when someone isn’t feeling well, even if (like with our older son) it’s someone he doesn’t really get along with. He becomes very gentle and protective, and we have a lot of found memories of him (especially when my wife was pregnant, or when our kids were newborns).
Why is Oliver Being Rehomed?
Despite our best efforts, it’s now clear to us that having Ollie in a home with two boys under the age of 5 is not good for his well-being or ours.
Oliver’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
No cats, only children if they are mature enough to handle Brooklyn’s most idiosyncratic dog, someone who really understands dog aggression stemming from fear and the need for positive reinforcement / making Ollie feel safe. Someone who can be relied on to walk Ollie 3-4 times a day, feed him and keep him up to date on vet appointments.
Ideally, for Ollie, a home that’s quieter than ours, where he can soak up all the attention he deserves, never go too long between scratches, and make sure the crusty-wusties (definitely the biological term) are regularly cleared from his eyes.
