Fuller & Abel’s Personalities

Abel (Tuxedo): Abel is more reserved and independent of the two. He loves sitting in laps and being petted, and is the only cat I’ve ever met that likes (and seeks out) belly rubs.

Fuller (Orange Tabby): Fuller is a little more adventurous. He seeks affection/petting more often than Abel. He loves to jump next to someone on the couch or in bed and will lay close to you while purring.

While they have their own personal quirks, both cats are very sweet and gentle. They come when they are called, and are very loving. They like to play with each other, and can oftentimes be found sleeping side-by-side. Like all cats, they are both skittish with loud sounds.

Fuller & Abel’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

They like to play with cat toy wands, swatting at the feathers or cloth dangling from a stick. Fuller will risk his life to get it, while Abel will more casually swat at it. They also like any new toys I introduce, but sometimes lose interest after a few days.

Both cats eat dry food. I’ve offered wet food to them before and they didn’t want it. Maybe you’ll have more luck.

The cats like to wrestle, groom, and sleep next to each other. They also will come out and sit next to me, or on me, while I’m sitting on the couch watching TV. Both cats come when called (oftentimes side-by-side). They also have their respective “safe spaces” they go to when I vacuum. They do really well recovering from stress when they have a place to hide when they hear loud noises or feel scared.

Cute Fuller & Abel Story:

Fuller, the hairiest of the two, needs occasional grooming. Recently I had to restrain him a little to trim his paw hair. He was very unhappy, and was meowing and flinching when I was trimming. However, when I freed him and let him go, he didn’t run away. He turned around and came up to me asking for pets. He is very forgiving, and seems to understand what I’m doing is to help him, and doesn’t take it personally.

When I first got them, Abel was about a year old and Fuller was a kitten. The moment we let Abel out he scrambled under the couch and stayed there for several days. Fuller was more adventurous, playing and jumping around the house. But Fuller would oftentimes crawl under the couch and perch right next to Abel for a few hours, not understanding why big brother was sitting there, but hanging out regardless. This seemed to help Abel calm down and eventually come out from the couch after a week or so. Having Fuller around really seemed to give Abel the confidence to explore and feel safe out in the open.

Why are Fuller & Abel Being Rehomed?

When my ex-wife originally brought the cats home, we had an apartment with more space, and we moved into a larger house with plenty of space. The cats had all the room they needed. However, after the divorce, my ex-wife refused to take them, and I tried to rehome them at that time.

However, it was a very hectic time and still post-COVID where everywhere was full. I’ve been trying to keep them in my (very) small home with my son, but it’s been challenging and stressful. They really need a larger space and somewhere where they can get more attention. I am not home very much, and when I am, I am busy taking care of my son. I’ve been trying to make it work for the cats, but I’m burnt out and know there is a better place out there for them. They are amazing cats. I didn’t realize that cats could have such a good temperament until I met these two.

Fuller & Abel’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

I am looking for a home where the cats can get more attention and have some more space to move around and play/explore (ideally more than 600 sq. ft.). They prefer calm and quiet over loud and hectic environments, but also have adjusted to more chaos as the years went on. I’m hoping they can live in a home where they will get plenty of affection and TLC. They seem to do well with large spans of time by themselves, but definitely like to interact with people if they’ve been by themselves for a while.

These are very good cats. If I wasn’t a single-parent and dealing with all the other things in my life things would be different. The best I can do for these cats is do everything I can to keep them together, since they’ve been bonded for most of their life. Willing to help any way I can.
