Junior & Whoa: Two Old Souls Waiting for a Miracle
If you listen closely inside the quiet house on the corner in Colerain, you can almost hear the echo of a life that used to be full — a TV humming, a kettle whistling, footsteps shuffling from room to room. But these days, the house is still… except for the soft thump-thump of two loyal hearts that simply don’t understand where their person went.

Junior and Whoa aren’t just dogs. They’re the soundtrack of a man’s life — the warm shapes curled against his legs during afternoon naps, the cheerful faces greeting him at the door, the comic relief, the confidants, the reason he laughed on days when things were hard. And now, through no fault of anything except time and circumstance, they sit patiently in an empty home with only one visitor a day, waiting for a door that no longer opens.
But don’t let this sad beginning fool you — these two are still absolute sparkle-beams of joy.
Junior, the younger of the pair at 8½, is the kind of dog who short-circuits from excitement when she sees someone she loves. She has this soft little “Hey… hey… over here… pay attention to me” wiggle that could disarm the world’s crankiest person. She speaks fluent eye contact. And if she thinks you’re ignoring her? She simply nudges your knee with the persistence of a small, hopeful engine until you give in — and then she sighs and flops down like, “Okay, good, crisis averted.”
Junior still has plenty of playfulness left, and she talks to the neighborhood dogs through the fence like the self-appointed mayor of her block. But she’s also perfectly content to spend the majority of a day happily snoring with her favorite chew bone beside her face. What she misses most in the world right now isn’t toys or treats — it’s people. Someone to love. Someone to follow from room to room again. Someone to belong to.
Whoa, her dad, is ten now — a gentle old gentleman who has fully earned the right to say, “I am here for soft blankets, quiet vibes, and snacks delivered on time.” He is the definition of steady love. Sweet. Easy. Soft-eyed. The kind of dog who leans his whole head into your hand as if he’s trying to pour gratitude into your palm.
He’s had a long life of loyalty, and he still gets bursts of youthful joy when he trots outside to sniff the air or run the fence line with Junior. But mostly, he wants what any senior wants: a warm home, a kind voice, and the chance to fall asleep knowing someone is watching over him.
Years ago, when he was younger, Whoa sometimes got nervous around loud, boisterous men — and he had one incident of dog aggression during a fence escape. But those days are long behind him. Now he is a mellow, aging sweetheart who melts for affection and just wants to spend his remaining years in peace.
Together, Junior and Whoa are magic. They cuddle together. They nap together. They keep each other company in the long, quiet hours. And they love each other with the devotion of family — because they are one.
Their person loves them fiercely. When his health failed suddenly — when he nearly died and had to be moved into a care facility — it broke his heart to leave them. It breaks his heart still. He worries about them constantly. He worries because the house must soon be sold. He worries because if they end up in a shelter, their age alone could be a death sentence. He worries because they deserve better than loneliness and uncertainty.
He worries because he loves them — and because they don’t know why everything changed.
But this is where the story can turn.
This is where you step in.
Junior and Whoa don’t need much. They’re low-maintenance homebodies. They nap more than they run. They chew their toys. They sunbathe. They wait by windows. They share beds and secrets. They dream softly.
And they would give you the most wholehearted, gentle, uncomplicated love.
They can be adopted together — their deepest hope — or separately if life demands it. What matters most is that they each get a soft landing, a kind voice, a warm home, and someone who sees their hearts.
They have been loyal their entire lives. They’ve stood by their person through every season. All they ask now is that someone stand by them.
If that someone might be you… if you’re reading this and feeling a pull you can’t quite explain… please reach out.
These two souls are sitting in a quiet house right now, listening for footsteps, hoping the next knock on the door is the one that changes everything.

Junior and Whoa’s Personality
Junior is a sweet and lively dog and loves attention! She loves to run outside but at 8 years old she’s also fine to rest for most of the day. She gets excited to see her people and is very loving. Junior will let you know when she’s feeling lonely and needs attention! But after a few pets she’s content to lay with her chew bone. Even though she’s older she has the fun personality of a younger dog. She loves to go outside and “talk” to the other dogs in the neighborhood and explore the back yard.
Junior is social and would do well in a diversity of different environments. But given my Dad (Junior’s owner) has been sick, she’s been lonely and would love to have someone who can give her attention, take her on walks, etc.
It is unknown how she would do with children and she’s not been exposed to many kids.
She gets excited around other dogs but has not shown aggression. Junior can sit, go lay down, some basic commands. She’s well behaved and is tuned into body language, tone of voice, etc.
She has been house trained for years, but since my Dad (I am his son posting for him) has gotten sick and had to move out of his house, Junior has been unfortunately forced to use the potty inside between check-ins. Given she was house trained prior she will just need some attention to remind her where the potty is (and isn’t).
Junior is up to date on vaccinations. She is not micro-chipped. No medical conditions or special dietary needs. No special accommodations, except what I already mentioend about being re-trained on where the potty is. She cannot hold it for a fully day (and shouldn’t be expected to of course!).
Same for Whoa (the male) as for Junior! He’s such a sweet guy. Getting older, around 10 now. Super chill just wants to lay around and chew on his toy. Love snuggling with Junior. Is very sweet and loving. Does love to be outside as well and run the fence and explore the yard. Given his age, he mostly just needs a peaceful place to live out the rest of his days.
In his earlier years he did get nervous around men he didn’t know who were loud/boisterous. He also became dog aggressive on one occasion when he escaped the fence. This was years ago and he hasn’t shown aggression since then, but it’s worth noting.
Why are Junior and Whoa Being Rehomed?
I recently got sick and nearly died due to an ongoing pulmonary issue. I am now living in assisted living and can no longer care for the dogs unfortunately. They have been living alone in my house since August with daily check-ins from a neighbor.
I will need to sell my house soon and afraid that at that point I would have to take them to a kill shelter and it’s the last thing I want to do.
Junior and Whoa’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
It would be great if someone could take both dogs, as they’ve lived together most of their lives. But I understand this might not be feasible.
They’re actually very low maintenance. Given their age they lay around most of the time, content to nap or chew on their toys. They do love being outside and running in the yard so a fenced yard would also be ideal.
Dad’s health is improving but he’s unable to drive and won’t be able to until at least February after he heals from his cataract surgery. He also has a somewhat urgent need to sell his house to pay for his new living arrangements, so we do need to find a new living situation for the dogs asap. His heart is breaking that the dogs might have to be euthanized if we can’t find them a home.
