Meet Cooper, Queensland Heeler Mix Dog For Adoption in Lodi CA

Cooper is a Male Queensland Mix Dog for adoption to a very loving home in or near Lodi, CA. This very special Dog is 5 years old and weighs Large/55 lbs pounds.

Cooper is being placed for adoption by owner for the following reason:
My husband and I just recently changed jobs and now we both work long hours and sometimes have to travel. With these long hours we feel cooper is not getting the attention and love he deserves and unfortunately it does not look like that will be changing anytime soon. Also my parents are moving out of the area and there is no one I trust to watch him if both my husband and I had to go out of town, and I don’t think he is a good fit for boarding. We love him, but we think someone more well suited could crest such a happier and fulfilling life for him.

Type of Pet: Dog
Breed of Pet: Queensland Heeler Mix
Sex of Pet: Male
Age of Pet: 5
Spayed/Neutered?: Yes

Behavior Issues: Yes Cooper is very protective and loyal, but with that when out at a dog park he can get possessive of my husband and I through not leaving our side and growling when other dogs come near. He is a alpha male and he gets along with most dogs if they are properly introduced at the house. There are certain people that he just doesn’t like. No known reason why. He is protective of house and property. Cannot be watched/fed by strangers as he will growl and bark at them as if they are intruders. He would most likely be best on a farm or with someone that can spend a lot of time with him. I have never seen him bite a person or animal.

Gets along with dogs: No
Good with Children?: Unknown

Cooper’s Personality

I love that he is loyal, guards the house and property, listens, very smart, and is not super high energy for his breed.

Cooper’s Current Home Environment

He spends most the day outside in the backyard while I am at work. Then he comes in and sleeps through the night on the floor next to the bed.

Cooper’s Current Family:

It is only my husband and I. We both work jobs that require long hours and sometimes travel.

Cooper’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

He loves to chew on antlers, he will eat anything, he even likes to eat his iverheart, fetch, hanging out with my husband and I in the house, going on walks, riding in the car.

Cute Cooper Story:

He was playing in the backyard at my parents house and he walked over to the pool and layed on the front step to cool himself off. Now every time he goes to my parents house no matter the temperature he goes to the front step of the pool and lays in it. It’s funny and cute at the same time.

Why is Cooper Being Rehomed?

My husband and I just recently changed jobs and now we both work long hours and sometimes have to travel. With these long hours we feel cooper is not getting the attention and love he deserves and unfortunately it does not look like that will be changing anytime soon. Also my parents are moving out of the area and there is no one I trust to watch him if both my husband and I had to go out of town, and I don’t think he is a good fit for boarding. We love him, but we think someone more well suited could crest such a happier and fulfilling life for him.

Cooper’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

We think cooper would be best in a home with people that can spend time to train him, he gets to hang out with them most the day (possibly retired). We don’t think he would be good with kids because he is temperamental with being touched sometimes and may need his space. He is not super high energy and much rather would like to lounge around all day and go for walks. He is best with no other animals in the home or if there are other animals that they are not dominant.

Additional Comments:

Cooper is a great dog once he is comfortable and gets to know people. We wish we could be his forever home, but we really think we can find someone to give him the love and attention he deserves. I rescued him from the pound when he was 6 months old. He was clearly abused prior to me adopting him and it took some time to get him out of his shell. He was always scared of men and now he is cautious, but warms up to them. He typically has no issues with trusting women.
