Looking for a Havanese dog for adoption in Scottsdale, AZ? Cookie would love to be considered for the position of your cherished family companion.

Meet Cookie – The Velcro Pup with a Heart of Gold and a Nose for Squeaky Toys

Once upon a time in the Arizona desert, there was a ten-pound fluff of love named Cookie who truly believed that humans were put on this earth to cuddle her. And honestly? She might be right.

Cookie isn’t just a dog. She’s the coziest blanket on a cold day, the soft nudge of comfort when your heart needs it most, and the kind of companion who looks at you like you just hung the moon — especially if you’re holding a treat. She’s a professional-level lap warmer, an expert at the slow saunter-around-the-backyard-just-to-sniff-things routine, and a highly persuasive actress when it comes to pretending she urgently needs to go outside (only to forget what she went out for in the first place). She’s got a gentle soul, a tiny bit of sass, and the kind of face that strangers stop to admire on the street.

Cookie came into her current human’s life the way many pandemic pets did — unexpectedly, and in the midst of grief and change. She had already loved and lost before, passed from breeder to breeder, then to the arms of a kind woman whose own life ended too soon. When her human mom passed, Cookie found herself in the loving care of her daughter, who has since been Cookie’s whole world.

But here’s the honest part: Cookie isn’t wired to be an “only pup” or a sidekick to a busy, one-human household. She craves a pack — not just people, but presence. Laughter in the living room. Movement in the kitchen. Kids giggling. Maybe another dog or two to remind her she’s not alone. She doesn’t want to be the center of the universe; she just wants to orbit a family where someone’s always home.

Her current human has moved mountains to make Cookie’s world full — daycare, trusted sitters, creative scheduling — but sometimes love means knowing when your best isn’t enough for the one who needs more. That’s why, with a heart both heavy and hopeful, Cookie’s person is helping her find her true forever home. One with more laps. More noise. More togetherness.

Now, to be completely transparent, Cookie has a touch of separation anxiety. She’s not destructive or loud — she just really doesn’t like being left alone. Ever. (Can you blame her?) But put her in a room with people — or better yet, a kid with a squeaky toy and a lap — and she’s the happiest pup on earth. She doesn’t bark unnecessarily, she’s well-mannered, and she’ll reward you with full-body wiggles every time you walk through the door (even if you just stepped outside for the mail).

She’s in great health now, though she did beat Valley Fever years ago like the little warrior she is. Her needs are simple: food, affection, a soft blanket to burrow in, and the promise that this next stop will be her last.

So, if your home is full of heart and maybe a few squeaky toys… if your couch has a little space, and your days are often spent with the comforting background noise of paws following you from room to room… Cookie might just be your girl.

Come meet her. But be warned: her eyes will tell you secrets, her fur will leave happy trails on your clothes, and your heart might never be the same.

Apply to adopt Cookie today — and get ready to be chosen by one of the sweetest souls you’ll ever meet.

5 Amazing Things About Cookie:

She is always super-excited to see me, when I pick her up from daycare.
She will play tug-of-war and likes new squeaky toys.
She’s just adorable … everyone wants to know all about her, when out in public.
She certainly knows what she wants and she’s decent at communicating that to you.
You can tell when she’s happy / content.

Cookie’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do.

They are hoping to find the right home where this deserving dog will be loved unconditionally and kept safe, happy, healthy and well-cared-for.

If you have room in your heart and home for Cookie, then please offer a loving, forever home today. Cookie can’t wait to show you the true meaning of unconditional love.

All About Cookie – Havanese dog For Adoption in Scottsdale AZ

Name of Pet: Cookie
Location: Scottsdale, AZ, 85260
Type of Pet: dog
Breed of Pet: Havanese
Sex of Pet: Female
Age of Pet: 9
Spayed/Neutered?: Yes
Health Problems: Yes She contracted Valley Fever within weeks of arriving in AZ at 2 years old. She has been off all treatments for over 4 years.
Behavior Issues: Yes Cookie has separation anxiety and has only been able to be left without a human a couple of times. Both of those times, she hung out with three dogs at a neighbor’s house and it was only for 2 hours at a time.
I use a daycare so I can leave the house during work hours and I have the support of a local family that takes her when I need a night off or I have to leave town.
She would thrive in a busy household that will never leave her by herself. She definitely prefers a pack (and I am only one person).
Up To Date on Vaccinations: Yes
Gets along with cats: Unknown
Gets along with dogs: Yes
Good with Children?: Yes
House Broken or Litter Trained?: Yes

Accessories Included: Cookie loves to nest in towels and mats. I have some of her favorites to provide, along with a pet carrier, 15 or so chew toys, a bunch of food and treats, and 4 or 5 different dog beds.
Of course, her harness and leash will go with her.

Cookie’s Personality

Cookie loves cuddles, treats, pets, walks … she adores interacting with people.
She’s a bit manipulative. She’ll act like her bladder is exploding and then just kind of saunter around the backyard for a sniff.
She gets along with everyone, especially if they want her on their lap!
She is not noisy and can spend time on her own but she prefers human company/touch.

Cookie’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

She loves sniffing outdoors. It’s tough to go for walks in the summer and that bums her out a bit. But, my backyard is big enough to give her room to poop and pee and also roam (with supervision … we are in the desert and there are predators).
She’s treat motivated (I have a list for the family adopting her).
She likes small antlers and a Multipet squeaker pad.

Why is Cookie Being Rehomed?

I am just one person. Cookie needs a pack.
I inherited Cookie during the pandemic and, while we are close and I adore her, I need to have a life.
She cannot be left at home alone without serious training. I have started to leave the house for five to ten minutes here and there … more than that is an issue.

Cookie’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

I’d very much like to see her go to a home with kids. She likes activity/variety. SHE NEEDS A PACK.
I work from home and that has spoiled her a bit. She still goes to a daycare for small dogs, when I need to do a client meeting, shop for food, etc. Someone else who works from home would probably make for a decent transition.

She is also a great dog for retired people. But, she’s not a replacement for a dying spouse and I don’t want her rehomed after forming yet another relationship with a human being that doesn’t last. So, people under the age of 75 might be preferred (my mother passed at 76 and we have longevity in the family).

Cookie is a sweet dog. Every girl at daycare has wanted to adopt her but they are young and have lives and cannot dedicate themselves to helping defeat her separation anxiety.

Cookie was sold by a breeder in MO and returned by the purchaser after unsuccessful breeding. The original breeder contacted my cousin (who had purchased 2 dogs from previous litters) but she was unable to take on a third dog. So, they convinced my mother to adopt the dog. Mom had her for three years before cancer took her during the pandemic. I have had Cookie ever since. The next owner needs to be her final stop.

At 9 years old, it is possible this dog lives 4 to 10 more years.
