German Shepherd Dog For Adoption in Sacramento

Daisy is a stunning 3-year-old German Shepherd mix for adoption in Grass Valley, California — convenient to Sacramento, Roseville, Auburn, Yuba City, and Reno, NV. Loyal, affectionate, and smart as they come, Daisy is the whole package: a devoted hiking buddy outdoors and a gentle snuggler on the couch at the end of the day. She’s wonderfully intuitive, great with children, eager to learn, and happiest when she’s close to her people.

Her owners adore her, but due to serious health concerns and the risk of falls when Daisy instinctively pulls toward wildlife, they are unable to keep her safely. With heartbreaking love — not because Daisy is unwanted — they are seeking the perfect adopter with a securely fenced property and an active lifestyle. If you’re hoping to adopt a German Shepherd near Sacramento or the Sierra foothills and want a loyal, emotionally attuned dog who will make you feel safe, loved, and endlessly entertained, Daisy may be your perfect match.

💗 Meet Daisy — the Girl Who Will Love You With Her Whole Heart (and Maybe Your Sock) 💗

If love could be measured in tail wags, soulful eyes, and the quiet feeling of safety you get when a dog leans gently against your leg, Daisy would be a giant on the Richter scale. She’s the kind of dog who slips into your life like a missing puzzle piece — the one you didn’t realize was missing until suddenly it fits, perfectly.

She senses moods like she was born with a tuning fork in her heart… comfort wrapped in fur. If you’re sad, she knows. If you’re excited, she knows. If you have a kid who needs a patient, gentle friend? She knows that too. Somehow Daisy just gets people — all ages, all temperaments — and she carries her love around like a superpower.

She is a German-Shepherd-mix with a generous side of comedian. Daisy doesn’t do fetch — at least not for people — but toss a toy into the air herself and she’ll catch it mid-flip like a circus performer showing off after rehearsal.

If she believes it’s time for you to wake up, she’ll take one of your socks and dramatically parade it around like a priceless trophy until you get out of bed to reclaim it. Then, after all that theater, she’ll instantly drop it at your feet like “What? I’m a perfectly obedient girl.” You will laugh — guaranteed.

Daisy is beautiful, bright, and built for adventure. She hikes like a pro and makes her humans feel like they’re traveling with a four-legged bodyguard who is brave enough to keep wayward squirrels in check but wise enough not to pick a fight with a bear.

When the day winds down, she morphs from protector to cuddle-expert, curling up beside you on the couch, always positioning herself between her people and the doorway — not in a pushy way, but with the steady devotion of someone who has decided that your safety and happiness is her job.

But life has handed her loving humans a heartbreaking mandate. Daisy lives with a retired couple who adore her with their entire souls — truly, profoundly adore her — yet Daisy’s instinct to chase wildlife has become dangerous for them.

Her mom has osteoporosis, and her dad’s balance is affected by Parkinson’s. All it takes is one squirrel spotted before they can say “leave it,” and Daisy surges forward on instinct… not because she’s naughty, but because nature wired her to move.

They have already fallen more than once. They cannot risk the next time. Loving her means letting her go — not because she’s a burden, but because she matters too much to be kept where she could be hurt, or where she could unintentionally hurt them.

So with broken hearts and shaking hands, they are choosing the most selfless love there is — the love that puts Daisy’s future first.

Daisy is athletic and brilliant, ready for a home with secure fencing so she can stretch her legs and run safely. She’s the queen of tug-of-war (extremely dramatic growls, zero teeth on fingers). She thrives on scent games and puzzle toys and would probably ace nose-work competitions if someone wanted to explore that path — though she would also be perfectly happy just being someone’s hiking bestie, couch companion, and loyal heart-dog.

She takes Apoquel for allergies and does best on a fish-based diet — easy to manage, and she’ll happily demonstrate her gratitude with the world’s softest sleepy snuggles.

She’s used to having people around, and it shows — her favorite thing in the whole world isn’t toys, treats, or anything money can buy.

It’s belonging.

What Daisy needs now is someone strong enough to hold the leash when she sees a rabbit, steady enough to guide her big energy into adventure, and soft enough to appreciate the gentleness underneath it all. Someone who will treasure her, laugh at her sock-antics, and let her fall asleep against them at the end of long, beautiful days.

Her current owners are grieving, but they will heal knowing Daisy is somewhere safe — somewhere she’s cherished, somewhere where someone sends a photo now and then of her smiling on a trail or sprawled on a rug like the happy house princess she truly is.

If you’re reading this and you feel that tug in your heart — the one that whispers “she might be mine” — please don’t wait. Daisy is ready to love her next family with everything she has.

Her next chapter could start with you — and she’s so ready to run toward it.

5 Amazing Things About Daisy:

  1. She seems to be intuitive–senses human emotions. She might even sense a seizure in a family member who has epilepsy.
  2. She endures a lot of affection from kids–totally safely
  3. She makes me feel safe on walks and hikes
  4. She learns quickly
  5. When she is in the mood for a snuggle, she is a comforting friend on the couch; always “guards” our doorways to ensure that the “pack” is safe.

Daisy’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do.

They are hoping to find the right home where this deserving dog will be loved unconditionally and kept safe, happy, healthy and well-cared-for.

If you have room in your heart and home for Daisy, then please offer a loving, forever home today. Daisy can’t wait to show you the true meaning of unconditional love.

Daisy’s Personality

Daisy is spirited and has periods of needing physical or mental stimulation, but does take naps during the day. She loves tug of war and scent-finding games, however she does not play fetch.

She is a fantastic hiking buddy, (and does not bark or challenge bears) and might be good at nose work competition, some day. She loves people and car rides and adventure.

Daisy’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

She likes to play tug of war. With great seriousness and enthusiasm. While she sounds ferocious, she is careful not to put her teeth on your hands.

She likes interactive puzzle games, even preferring to have some of each meal in a puzzle or Kong. Always thinking.

She loves scent games. We have 5 acres. We hide scent cannisters under trees, in woodpiles, and hanging slightly above her head from doorknobs, etc. She finds them easily and loves getting her treat and “Yes!”.

Hiking days are her favorite days. She loves chewy treats and tough fish skins- the smellier the better.

Cute Daisy Story:

She won’t play fetch with humans, but she does toss toys into the air and catches them by herself. She will find your sock and do this in front of you to get you to get your attention.

For example, if she thinks it is time to get up, she will toss your sock around and lick it, so you will get out of bed and come get it. “Once you are up, she obeys the “drop it” command.

Why is Daisy Being Rehomed?

We are a retired couple. I have osteoporosis and my husband’s Parkinson’s Disease make Daisy a dangerous fall risk. When she sees a rabbit or squirrel before we can say “leave it”, she suddenly takes off after it.

As I am not strong and my husband’s balance is not good, it has resulted in several falls. We have 5 unfenced acres, which she loves, but it means that she must be on leash at all times. While she does come when called, we do live near a highway, and our lack of secure fencing is dangerous for her.

Daisy’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Someone strong and sturdy and loving. She needs space to sprint, but needs fences for security. We are with her almost constantly, so she is not used to being alone; however, she has done well in a rural setting boarding facility.

Although she was bred (in a puppy mill) to be a protection dog, I would hate to see her sweet nature changed into something else. I would hate her to be used that way. She could be easily trained for search and rescue (good nosework) but I would hate for her to do schutzhund sports. Someone who loves hiking as much as she does!

I would love a couple of photos of her having a good time. The guilt and heartbreak of giving her up is hard, and I would like to think she is happy with “her new people”.
