Litty would much rather be part of the adventure.
At just one year old, this beautiful 30-pound Blue Heeler is playful, athletic, affectionate, remarkably smart, and eager to please. Give her a Frisbee, ball or stick and she’s ready for fun. Give her patience, affection and something interesting to learn, and you’ll begin to discover just how much potential this special young dog has.
But perhaps the most endearing thing about Litty is the way she came into her family’s life.
She wasn’t planned.
In November 2025, when Litty was just a few months old, this little Blue Heeler simply wandered onto their property.
They took her in, cared for her, and eventually became her legal owners. What arrived as a stray puppy quickly became a much-loved member of the family.
Unfortunately, there’s one problem nobody could have anticipated.
Litty shares her home with two middle-aged male Border Collies. Both are neutered, and Litty is spayed, but the two boys compete and fight over her. What started as an act of kindness has therefore created a household dynamic that isn’t fair or comfortable for any of the dogs.
Her family has made the difficult decision to find Litty a home where she can be the focus rather than the cause of competition.
And for the right person, she is going to be one extraordinary companion.
Litty is a one-year-old, 30-pound female Blue Heeler / Australian Cattle Dog for adoption in Candler, North Carolina, near Asheville. She is spayed, healthy, vaccinated, house trained and crate trained. She gets along with dogs, cats and children.
What she needs now is someone who understands that behind all that intelligence and enthusiasm is still a very young dog with plenty to learn—and enormous potential in the right hands.

Important Handling Information
Litty can be fearful during veterinary visits and when an unfamiliar person physically restrains or corners her. When frightened and unable to move away, she has threatened to nip.
She responds much more positively when people give her space, allow her time to become comfortable, and use treats to build trust.
This is important information for her future family to know, but it does not define Litty.
She is a young, intelligent dog who will benefit from patient, positive handling and continued confidence-building. Her ideal adopter will respect her signals rather than forcing interactions when she is frightened and will work with a veterinarian comfortable using low-stress or fear-free handling techniques.
Litty’s Personality
If you know and love Australian Cattle Dogs, Litty’s personality will probably sound wonderfully familiar.
She is playful, energetic, affectionate, loyal, intelligent, enthusiastic, cautious and adventurous.
Blue Heelers were developed to think, work and stay engaged with their people, and Litty has that active mind. She isn’t looking for a life where nothing happens. She needs opportunities to play, learn, explore and spend meaningful time with her person.
She’s also affectionate and wants to please.
That combination of intelligence, athleticism and devotion gives Litty tremendous potential with an adopter willing to continue her training and help her develop confidence.
At only a year old, she is still very much a young dog. The person who adopts her won’t simply be getting the dog she is today—they’ll have the opportunity to help shape the wonderful adult dog she is becoming.
Litty’s Favorite Toys and Activities
Litty believes there are very few problems in life that cannot be improved by a good toy.
Her favorites include:
- Frisbees
- Balls
- Sticks
- Squeaky chew toys
An adopter who enjoys interactive play should have no trouble keeping this girl entertained.
Her intelligence also makes her an excellent candidate for enrichment activities, positive-reinforcement training and games that allow her to use both her brain and her body.
The Day Litty Brought Home a Baby Owl
Every memorable dog deserves a memorable story, and Litty certainly has one.
One day, Litty arrived home with a rather extraordinary discovery:
a baby owl.
Her family immediately stepped in and brought the little owl to a wildlife rescue where it could receive appropriate care.
And the story has a wonderful ending.
After growing into an adolescent, the rehabilitated owl was eventually released back onto Litty’s family’s property.
So somewhere around Candler may be an owl whose life became unexpectedly intertwined with the young Blue Heeler who wandered onto the same property months earlier.
We can’t promise Litty’s future adventures will involve wildlife rescue—but life with this curious, enthusiastic girl is unlikely to be boring.
Why Is Litty Being Rehomed?
Litty’s family did not set out to acquire another dog.
She appeared on their property as a stray puppy in November 2025, and they opened their home to her, cared for her, and eventually became her legal owners.
Unfortunately, they already have two middle-aged male Border Collies.
Although both males are neutered and Litty is spayed, the two dogs compete over her and have begun fighting with one another.
Litty hasn’t done anything wrong.
Her family simply recognizes that the current dynamic isn’t ideal for the dogs, and they believe Litty deserves the opportunity to have a home chosen specifically around her needs.
Rehoming her is therefore not about getting rid of an unwanted dog.
It’s about completing the rescue story that began when a little stray puppy wandered onto their property—and finding the permanent home where she can truly flourish.
Litty’s Perfect Adoptive Home
The person Litty’s family hopes to find can probably be described in a few words:
kind, patient, affectionate and active.
Someone familiar with Australian Cattle Dogs or other intelligent working breeds would be especially welcome.
Litty would love a home with room to move and explore, making a rural property, acreage or home with a securely fenced yard particularly appealing.
But land alone isn’t what Litty needs.
She needs a person.
Someone who enjoys interacting with their dog.
Someone willing to continue her training.
Someone who understands that intelligent dogs need things to think about as well as room to exercise.
Someone who will give her time when she’s uncertain rather than forcing her into situations that frighten her.
And someone looking for the kind of loyal relationship for which Australian Cattle Dogs are so well known.
For that person, Litty has an enormous amount to offer.
