Zada’s Love Letter: From a Squishy-Faced Sidekick in Search of Her Final Forever

Let me tell you a little something about heartbreak.

Not the tragic movie kind, or the my-favorite-snack-is-discontinued kind — I’m talking about the moment your family, the people you’ve loved every single day of your nine squishy-faced years, gently tell you that they have to let you go. Not because they want to. Not because you’ve done anything wrong. But because life threw a curveball (or in my case, a sweet, sneezy baby and a serious allergy), and suddenly, the home you’ve always known got a little smaller. A little quieter. A little less you.

Hi. I’m Zada. I’m a Boston Terrier–Pug mix, though some might say I’m part shadow, part cuddlebug, and part living, breathing cartoon character. At a solid 20 pounds, I’m what you’d call “perfectly portable,” with just enough chub to make my naps look extra luxurious and just enough sass to keep your Amazon delivery guy on his toes.

My days? Oh, I’m a master napper. Olympic-level. Sunbeam on the floor? Claimed. Soft blanket on the couch? Occupied. But I’m not just a cozy loaf. I bark when someone’s at the door because, duh, I’m your tiny, snorting security system.

I like my toys, my treats, and any activity that ends in belly rubs. I once had my nails painted at the groomer’s and strutted out of there like the Queen of Edmonton. I contain multitudes.

So why am I looking for a new home? It’s not a sad story — not really. It’s a love story that just needs a new chapter. My family brought home a beautiful new baby, and their time, energy, and square footage have shifted in ways that aren’t fair to a dog like me who deserves more snuggles, more floor space, and more time with my people. It’s nobody’s fault. It’s just life. And honestly? I’m proud of myself for adapting with grace. (And naps. Mostly naps.)

I don’t have health problems. I’m polite in the house. I get along with other dogs and I’ve never met a child I didn’t think was a walking snack dispenser. I’m crate trained, housebroken, and emotionally available. No baggage, unless you count the blankie I refuse to live without.

Now, listen — I’m not a puppy. I don’t chew your shoes or redecorate with toilet paper. I’ve been there, done that, earned the naptime. But I am still full of love, loyalty, and low-speed chase potential. All I need is someone who wants a built-in best friend. Someone who thinks a little snoring is cute. Someone who understands that shedding is just one way I leave a piece of myself with you. (You’re welcome.)

If you’re looking for a calm, funny, soulful companion with a smooshy face and a big heart, maybe… just maybe… we’re each other’s next great love story.

Click that “Apply to Adopt” button below. I’ll be over here dreaming of soft blankets, snackies, and the sound of your footsteps coming home.

With hopeful paws,
Zada 🐾

Zada sheds, our daughter is allergic to pet hair and dander, so we kept Zada to the main floor and was okay. We just welcomed a baby into our home and reduced the access to the living room from Zada. Her living space decreased, and our time reduced to spend with her as we’re focused on the new baby.

Zada Adoption FAQ

🐶 Who is Zada?

Zada is a 9-year-old female Boston Terrier–Pug mix looking for a loving forever home in or near Edmonton, Alberta. She’s a sweet, laid-back companion who loves napping, soft blankets, and being part of a family. She weighs about 20 pounds, is spayed, fully vaccinated, and house-trained.

🏠 Where is Zada located?

Zada is currently in Edmonton, AB (T5Z0C4). We’re looking for an adopter within a reasonable distance, including areas like St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, and other nearby towns. If you’re within driving distance of Edmonton, you’re welcome to apply.

🧳 What comes with Zada?

Zada’s adoption includes:

  • Her dog crate
  • Food container and current food
  • Favorite toys
  • Leash
  • Her well-loved blanket
  • Full veterinary records

💰 Is there an adoption fee?

Yes. Zada’s rehoming fee is $150, which helps ensure she’s going to a committed and loving home. It also helps cover the cost of reviewing and processing applications, coordinating the adoption, and providing support to her current family and new adopter.

🧒 Is Zada good with children?

Yes! Zada is gentle and patient with children. She’s lived with kids before and does very well around them, though like all dogs, she appreciates respectful handling and space when she’s napping.

🐾 How does Zada do with other pets?

Zada has done well with other dogs in the past. Her current home doesn’t have cats, so we can’t say for sure how she’d respond to a feline roommate. Introductions to new pets should always be slow and supervised.

🚫 Does Zada have any behavioral issues?

None. Zada is well-mannered, housebroken, crate-trained, and generally quiet. She’ll give a bark or two when someone’s at the door — she takes her role as tiny watchdog seriously — but she settles quickly. She’s a calm, peaceful companion.

❤️ Why is Zada being rehomed?

This decision wasn’t made lightly. Zada’s family recently welcomed a new baby, and one of their children has developed significant allergies to pet hair and dander. Zada’s space in the home has been restricted and her time with her humans reduced. Out of love and fairness to Zada, her family is seeking a home where she can have more freedom and attention.

💊 Does Zada have any special health needs?

Zada is in good health for her age. She’s spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, and has no known medical concerns. Like many short-nosed breeds, she can sometimes be a little snorty — but it’s just part of her charm.

🧼 Is Zada house-trained?

Yes! Zada is fully housebroken and also crate-trained. She’s used to living indoors and knows how to hold it until she’s outside.

🧸 What does Zada like to do?

Napping is her #1 hobby — preferably on a soft blanket. She enjoys quiet companionship, receiving treats, and being where her people are. She has a few favorite toys and still gets a playful spark now and then, but she’s mostly a mellow girl these days.

She used to get her nails painted at the groomer — she looked like a glamorous little diva and definitely knew it.

🐕‍🦺 What kind of home is Zada looking for?

Zada would love:

  • A quiet or moderately active home
  • A family, couple, or single person who is around often or works from home
  • Someone who will include her in daily life, whether it’s hanging on the couch or going for walks
  • A home where she’s not confined or isolated — she thrives with attention and freedom to roam

🏙️ I live in an apartment or townhouse in Edmonton — would Zada do well?

Absolutely. Zada is only 20 pounds and very calm indoors, making her an excellent fit for apartment or condo living. As long as she gets regular potty breaks and a bit of playtime or walking, she’s a happy girl.

🚗 Can I meet Zada before adopting?

Yes. Approved applicants will be invited to meet Zada in person, either in her current home or a neutral location in Edmonton. It’s important that both Zada and her potential new family feel the match is right.

📷 Can I stay in touch with her current owners?

While it’s not required, Zada’s current family would love the occasional update if you’re open to it. They care deeply about her and are only rehoming her because they want what’s best.
