Meet Mango – Pre-Loved Calico Tabby cat For Adoption by Owner in Edmonton Alberta
If you believe in love at first purr, Mango would like a word. She doesn’t rush into things—she’s a gentle soul, after all—but give her a quiet moment, a soft voice, and maybe a careful forehead kiss, and she’ll curl herself right into your heart like she’s always belonged there.

Mango is the kind of cat who makes a house feel warmer simply by being in it, the kind who watches the world with curious eyes and then decides the safest, coziest place is right beside you.
Mango is a calico tabby with a story that feels a little bit like fate. One chilly November day, very pregnant and very scared, she appeared—howling softly, lost, and hoping someone would notice. Someone did. Since then, Mango has revealed herself to be extraordinary in the quietest, most touching ways. She gave birth to six kittens and stepped into motherhood like it was written into her soul. She is attentive, protective, and deeply devoted, the sort of mother who keeps careful watch while still finding time to nap in a sunbeam or bat at a bird toy with a playful flick of her paw.
Despite her timid nature, Mango is wonderfully affectionate once she trusts you. She loves being brushed, leans into gentle attention, and has a particular fondness for smelling whatever new food you’re curious about—purely for research purposes, of course. She enjoys playtime, adores sleep, and prefers to be where her people are, quietly keeping company like a fuzzy little shadow. She listens in that cat way—ears twitching, eyes soft—taking everything in, deciding that yes, this human seems safe.
Mango’s rehoming isn’t about anything she’s done wrong. Quite the opposite. She’s simply loved too much. In a home already full of cats, her fierce devotion to her babies has made things understandably difficult. She’s protective, as good mothers often are, and deserves a space where she doesn’t feel she has to guard her heart—or her kitten—quite so closely. This decision comes from care, not convenience, and from a deep desire to see Mango thrive in a calmer environment where she can finally relax.
She may be a little shy at first, and she does best without dogs. With other cats, she can do well when she’s on her own, and she truly shines in peaceful homes where patience and kindness are the norm. Mango will also need a loving adopter willing to have her spayed once the time is right—another small act of care for a cat who has already given so much.
If your home has room for a cat who will love you quietly, sincerely, and completely… if you’re drawn to gentle souls with big hearts and soft paws… Mango may be the one you’ve been waiting for. She’s ready to trade her watchful motherhood days for a life of safety, affection, and unconditional love.
If Mango has already found a cozy spot in your heart, we invite you to take the next step and apply to meet her. She’s waiting patiently—curled up, hopeful, and ready to begin her next beautiful chapter with you. 🧡 Adopt Mango today!
Please Note: Mango would love to be adopted along with her adorable kitten, Prizmo. Please consider offering this sweet pair a home together.

Mango’s Adoption FAQ – Calico Tabby Cat for Adoption in Edmonton, Alberta
Thinking about adopting Mango? Below is an in-depth, adopter-friendly FAQ designed to answer the questions
most people ask before meeting a cat. If you don’t see your question here, you can still reach out via the
“Questions about Mango?” form on the page.
Quick Snapshot
Who is Mango?
Mango is a 3-year-old female Calico Tabby cat being privately rehomed in Edmonton, Alberta. She’s described
as affectionate, calm, curious, playful, and a little silly once she feels safe. She’s an indoor-only cat
and has been an excellent, devoted mother to her kittens.
Where is Mango located?
Mango is in Edmonton, Alberta (near postal code T5P 3M5). Adoption is typically considered within a reasonable
driving distance, and meetings are arranged directly with the owner once an application is approved.
What is the adoption/rehoming fee and what does it include?
The adoption/rehoming fee is $40. Any available supplies and veterinary records will be included. The owner may
also be able to provide some food, but Mango would otherwise come with what is available at the time of adoption.
Why is Mango being rehomed?
Mango’s owner already has several cats. Because Mango has been very protective of her kitten(s), she has chased
the resident cats away. To reduce stress and keep everyone safe and peaceful, Mango needs a home environment that
better matches her needs right now.
Is Mango available with one of her kittens?
The owner hopes Mango can be adopted with her baby kitten. If adopting both isn’t possible, Mango may also do fine
on her own in the right home. If you are interested in adopting Mango with her kitten, please mention that in your
application so the team can explore that option.
Personality, Temperament & Daily Life
What is Mango’s personality like?
Mango is described as timid at first, but incredibly affectionate and trusting with people once she settles in.
She enjoys being near her person, loves gentle attention, and has a sweet, calm presence. She can be playful and
a little goofy, especially when she’s comfortable.
Is Mango cuddly?
Mango is affectionate and enjoys closeness, including forehead kisses and being brushed. Many cats like Mango
become more cuddly as trust grows. Expect her to choose closeness on her own schedule at first, then gradually
become more openly affectionate once she feels safe.
Is Mango shy or outgoing?
Mango is timid initially, especially in new environments. However, she does well around people and is described
as trusting with humans. With a calm approach and patience, she’s likely to warm up and show her affectionate,
curious side.
Does Mango like being picked up?
This varies by cat and can change with comfort level. Mango enjoys affection and handling like brushing and
kisses. If being picked up is important to you, you can ask to test this during your meet-and-greet, and the
owner can share what Mango currently tolerates or enjoys.
What are Mango’s favorite things?
Mango loves a bird toy, loves food (including sniffing new foods like a tiny food critic), and loves sleeping.
She also enjoys being brushed and spending time near her people.
How active is Mango?
Mango is playful and curious, but also calm. She enjoys toys and interaction, then happily balances that with
restful naps and quiet companionship.
Does Mango vocalize a lot?
The story describes her howling when she was lost and scared outdoors. In a stable indoor home, many cats become
relatively quiet. If vocalization is a concern, you can ask the owner what Mango is like day-to-day now.
Is Mango okay being left alone during the day?
Mango can entertain herself and enjoys sleeping. Like most cats, she’ll still appreciate companionship and
interaction when you’re home. A predictable routine, toys, and cozy resting spots help her feel secure.
Will Mango adapt to apartment living?
Yes—Mango is an indoor-only cat and is described as calm and not easily startled. With appropriate enrichment
(scratching posts, toys, window perch), she can do very well in an apartment or condo setting.
What kind of home environment is best for Mango?
Mango will do best in a calm, stable, indoor-only home with patient adopters who let her settle at her own pace.
A home without dogs is strongly preferred.
Compatibility With Kids, Cats & Dogs
Is Mango good with children?
Her listing suggests she may do well with children, but some details are unknown. Generally, timid cats do best
with calm, respectful children who understand “gentle hands” and give a cat space. If you have kids, it’s a great
idea to describe their ages and energy levels in your application.
Is Mango good with other cats?
Mango can do well with other cats when her baby is not around. However, she has been protective of her kitten and
may chase other cats away in that context. If Mango is adopted alone (without kittens), she may be able to live with
another calm cat after a slow, proper introduction. If she is adopted with her kitten, expect stronger protective
instincts until things settle and hormones normalize.
Can Mango live with a dog?
No. A dog-free home is requested.
Can Mango be adopted as an only pet?
Yes. In fact, a home where she can be the only cat (or adopted with her kitten) may be ideal, especially while she’s
still in “mom mode” and protective.
Health, Vetting & Spay Plans
Is Mango healthy?
Yes. Mango is described as having no health problems and no behavioral issues.
Is Mango spayed?
Not yet. The adopter should be willing to have Mango spayed when the timing is appropriate—especially after she is
done producing milk.
Are Mango’s vaccinations up to date?
Vaccination status is currently listed as unknown. Any available veterinary records will be provided. Your adopter
plan should include a vet visit shortly after adoption to confirm health, update vaccines as needed, and discuss
spay timing.
When should Mango be spayed?
Spay timing is best determined by a veterinarian, especially if Mango is still nursing. Many vets recommend waiting
until kittens are weaned and milk production has stopped. Your vet can advise on the safest and most appropriate
timeline for Mango based on her condition.
Does Mango have any special needs?
Mango’s main “special need” is situational: she may be protective if she is adopted with her kitten and may need a
calm home and careful introductions with any other cats. She’s also timid initially, so she benefits from patience,
quiet, and a gentle settling-in period.
Will Mango need a vet check after adoption?
It’s always recommended. Even for healthy pets, a “new pet exam” within the first couple of weeks helps establish
care, confirm vaccine/spay plans, and answer questions about diet and preventative care.
Behavior & Training
Is Mango litter trained?
Yes, Mango is litter trained.
Does Mango scratch furniture?
This isn’t specified. Most cats will scratch if they don’t have appealing scratching options. Providing multiple
scratching surfaces (vertical and horizontal), placing them near favorite resting areas, and using catnip can help
prevent unwanted scratching.
Does Mango ever bite or swat?
No behavior issues are reported. Like many timid cats, she may become overwhelmed if handled too fast. Reading her
body language, offering choice, and allowing her space will help keep interactions positive.
Does Mango have any anxiety or fearfulness?
Mango is described as timid. That can look like hiding at first or observing quietly from a safe spot. With patience,
a predictable routine, and gentle interaction, many cats become more confident and social as they settle in.
How does Mango do with grooming?
Mango loves being brushed, which is great for bonding and coat maintenance. Regular, gentle brushing sessions can help
her feel secure and adored.
Food, Treats & Enrichment
What does Mango eat?
Specific diet details aren’t listed, but Mango “loves food” and enjoys smelling new foods. You can ask the owner what
she currently eats, what schedule she’s on, and whether she has any sensitivities. If you change her food, do so gradually
over 7–10 days to avoid tummy upset.
What toys does Mango like?
Mango loves a bird toy. Many cats also enjoy wand toys, small crinkle toys, and puzzle feeders—great choices for play and
mental enrichment.
How can I keep Mango happy indoors?
Indoor cats thrive with simple enrichment: daily play sessions, a scratching post, window perch, climbing tree, cozy beds,
and rotating toys. Because Mango likes being near you, spending relaxed time together matters, too.
Motherhood & Kitten Considerations
Why might Mango be protective right now?
Protective behavior is common in mother cats, especially when they have kittens. Mango has shown strong maternal instincts and
may guard her kitten around other cats. This often improves after kittens are weaned and hormones settle, particularly in a calm,
low-stress environment.
If Mango is adopted with her kitten, what should I expect?
Expect Mango to be extra watchful at first. She may prefer a quiet room and a predictable routine while settling in. A “safe room”
setup (private room with litter, food, water, bedding) can help the family transition smoothly and reduce stress.
If Mango is adopted without a kitten, will she be okay?
Many cats do well as solo companions, especially affectionate cats like Mango who enjoy human company. Mango may also become less
protective when she’s not caring for kittens. The owner believes she would do fine on her own in the right home.
Adoption Process & Meet-and-Greet
How do I apply to adopt Mango?
Click the “Adopt Mango Here!” button on Mango’s page to complete the meeting request form. Once your application is received and
reviewed, a member of the Edmonton cat rehoming team will ask Mango’s owner to reach out to you to arrange a meet-and-greet.
What happens after I apply?
After review, if your application looks like a strong match, you’ll be connected with the owner to schedule a meeting. The goal is a
safe, comfortable introduction where you can ask questions and see Mango’s personality in person.
Where will the meet-and-greet take place?
Meetings are typically arranged directly with the owner. Location details are shared after your application is approved, with safety and
privacy in mind for everyone involved.
What should I bring or prepare for the meet-and-greet?
Bring your questions, and be prepared to talk about your home, lifestyle, and any other pets. It’s helpful to think about how you’ll
set up Mango’s first week (safe room, litter box placement, food, scratching post, carrier, and a quiet place to decompress).
How long does it take for Mango to adjust to a new home?
Many cats follow the “3-3-3” guideline: roughly 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn the routine, and up to 3 months to fully feel at home.
Timid cats may take a little longer, but the bond they form is often especially sweet.
Can I do a trial or foster-to-adopt?
This depends on the owner’s comfort level and the arrangements available. If you’re interested, you can ask about possible options during the
application review or meet-and-greet discussion.
Home Setup & Transition Tips
What is the best way to bring Mango home?
Use a secure carrier, bring her directly to a quiet “safe room,” and allow her to explore at her own pace. Offer food, water, litter, and a cozy
hiding spot. Let her come to you—timid cats do best when they have choice and calm.
What should a “safe room” include?
A small room with a litter box, food, water, bed/blanket, a scratching post, and a hiding spot (like a covered cat bed or a box). Keep it quiet,
and spend short, gentle visits there so Mango can learn you are safe.
What supplies will I need for Mango?
At minimum: a carrier, litter box + litter, food + dishes, scratching post/pad, cat bed/blanket, toys, and a brush (Mango loves brushing).
Optional but helpful: a cat tree, window perch, and pheromone diffuser.
Should Mango be kept indoors?
Yes. Mango is an inside cat and should remain indoor-only for safety and to reduce stress—especially during the transition to a new home.
Safety, Records & Responsible Adoption
Will I receive Mango’s vet records?
Any available veterinary records will be provided. If records are limited, a new vet visit after adoption is strongly recommended to establish
a baseline and update vaccinations as appropriate.
Can Mango be adopted outside Edmonton?
Potentially, within a reasonable distance. If you are outside Edmonton, include your location and willingness to travel in your application.
What type of adopter is the best fit for Mango?
Someone kind, patient, and committed to indoor-only care—ideally in a dog-free home. Mango will thrive with adopters who appreciate a cat who may
start out shy but blossoms into a loving companion with time.
What should I do if Mango hides at first?
This is normal for timid cats. Keep routines consistent, speak softly, offer treats, and allow her to choose when to approach. Sitting quietly in
the room and reading or working can help Mango acclimate to your presence without pressure.
What if I already have a cat?
If Mango is adopted alone, she may be able to live with another cat after slow introductions. If Mango is adopted with her kitten (or while still
protective), she may do best as the only cat. Share details about your cat’s personality and your ability to do gradual introductions in your application.
Is Mango the right match if I want a “super confident, instant best friend” cat?
Mango may take a little time to fully relax. If you’re open to earning her trust and you enjoy watching a shy cat bloom, she could be a wonderful fit.
If you need an immediately outgoing cat, Mango might still become that—just not on day one.
What questions should I ask the owner before adopting?
Helpful questions include: what food Mango currently eats, her litter type, daily routine, any known triggers for shyness, grooming preferences,
whether she enjoys being held, and details about spay timing and any kitten adoption options.
How do I get my questions answered right now?
Use the “Questions about Mango?” form (“Quick Questions” form) on Mango’s page. A team member will help get answers from the owner.
Ready to adopt Mango?
If Mango sounds like your kind of cat, please click the “Adopt Mango Here!” button on her page to complete the meeting request form. Once reviewed,
the Edmonton cat rehoming team will coordinate with Mango’s owner to arrange a meet-and-greet.
