Meet Peter – Pre-Loved Collie Australian Cattle mix For Adoption by Owner in Regina SK
Have you ever looked into a dog’s eyes and felt like they had a story to tell?
Peter is that dog.
With soft eyes full of quiet wisdom and a heart bigger than his fluffy frame, Peter is the kind of companion who doesn’t ask for much—just a gentle voice, a warm place to curl up, and someone who will see his worth.
This 7-year-old Collie/Australian Cattle Dog mix has lived a life of quiet loyalty. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t demand attention, but quietly settles beside you like he’s always belonged there. His peaceful presence, gentle nature, and innate ability to soothe those around him make him the perfect match for someone seeking a steady, comforting best friend.
Peter has been deeply loved, but through no fault of his own, he now finds himself in need of a new home. His family’s circumstances have changed, and as heartbreaking as it is for them, they know Peter deserves more than they can give right now—more time, more space, and someone who can truly make him a priority.
What makes Peter special?
He’s house-trained, well-mannered, and thrives in a calm environment.
He gets along beautifully with respectful dogs and is polite when meeting new people. Peter doesn’t ask for a busy lifestyle—just a quiet home with adults or older children where he can relax, enjoy his meals, go for gentle walks, and know that he is safe and loved.
Like many dogs his age, Peter has his quirks. New situations can make him nervous, and loud environments aren’t his favourite. But give him a moment, a reassuring word, and a gentle hand, and he’ll settle in just fine. He’s the kind of dog who will win your heart slowly—but thoroughly.
Peter is fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and has been given the best of care. He truly is ready to love again.
If you’ve been searching for a quiet, faithful companion to share your days, Peter may just be the dog you didn’t know you needed. He has so much love left to give—he’s simply waiting for someone who sees in him what his current family has always known: that he’s a truly wonderful dog.

- His Quirky Little Habits – The way he stretches dramatically when you rub his tummy, how he snores softly when he’s really comfortable, or how he breathes a little too close to your face even though you don’t like it.
- His Playfulness & Energy – How he lights up when he gets to chase a frisbee or go on an adventure. Even though he can be a lot, his excitement is infectious when he’s truly in his element.
- His Loyalty & Devotion – No matter what, Peter wants to be with you. He looks to you for comfort, security, and love, and you’ve been his whole world.
- His Softness – Physically and emotionally. His super-soft fur, the way he leans into you, and his expressive, gentle nature when he feels safe. He’s a dog full of feeling, and you love that about him.
Peter’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do.

Peter’s Personality
Peter is an affectionate, intelligent, and deeply loyal dog. He forms strong bonds with his person and loves to be close, whether that’s cuddling on the couch or following along on an adventure. He has a playful and curious side—he enjoys frisbee, exploring new trails, and learning new things. Peter thrives on routine and structure, and while he can be a bit sensitive to change, he is eager to please and responds well to guidance.
He has the classic traits of a working breed—alert, intuitive, and always aware of what’s happening around him. While he can be a little anxious when left alone, he is gentle, expressive, and full of personality. His quirks, like stretching out dramatically for belly rubs or breathing just a little too close to your face, make him incredibly endearing. Peter would do best with someone who appreciates his loyalty, intelligence and need for engagement while also helping him feel more secure and confident.
Peter’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
Peter’s favourite toys are his rubber frisbee, and anything soft with a squeaker in it. All foods are delicious, but there is a special placement for anything that smells like salmon. Activities, he loves anything active, running for a frisbee or ball, walking, and managed off leash time to sniff around.
Cute Peter Story:
Peter is picky around other animals, but when he finds a friend, he knows it before they even arrive. There have been a few special dogs he’s bonded with, and any time he knows he’s about to see them, he gets excited in advance—tail wagging, ears perking, maybe even a little impatient whining.
And when they finally meet? It’s full-on play mode. Peter and his friend will romp around, chase each other, and run like they’re wild pups again, completely in sync. It’s not just about the playing—it’s the recognition, the anticipation, the sheer joy of being with a dog he truly connects with.
Even though he’s selective, when he loves another dog, he really loves them. And seeing him so carefree and happy in those moments is a reminder of just how much personality, intuition, and heart he has.
Why is Peter Being Rehomed?
I have had Peter for nearly five years, and in that time, we have formed an incredibly strong bond. However, I am facing significant changes to my work routine that will require me to be out of the house too often for Peter to have the quality of life he deserves. He thrives on companionship, structure, and engagement, and I know that my future lifestyle won’t allow me to provide that for him at the level he needs.
Because I love him, I want to ensure he finds a home where he can be truly happy, supported, and given the attention he requires.
Peter’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
I want to find a loving, experienced, and committed home where Peter can truly thrive. His next family should be able to provide him with the structure, engagement, and stability he needs to feel safe and happy.
Ideal Home for Peter:
• Experienced Dog Owner – Someone familiar with herding breeds, working dogs, or anxious dogs who understands their needs and behaviors.
• Stable Routine & Consistent Presence – A home where he is not left alone for long hours and where his person(s) can provide structure and reassurance.
• Active Lifestyle – Someone who enjoys walks, outdoor activities, or mentally stimulating play to help him burn energy in a healthy way.
• Patient and Understanding – An adopter willing to work with his separation anxiety and provide training or continued support to help him feel secure.
• Preferably No Small Children or Multiple Dogs – While Peter has bonded with certain dogs, he tends to prefer having his own space and would do best in a calm, structured environment without young children.
Peter is a loving and intelligent dog who will be deeply devoted to the right person. I am looking for an adopter who will not only care for him but will also understand and appreciate the incredible companion he is.
This is one of the hardest decisions I have ever made, and I am doing everything I can to approach it responsibly. As much as it breaks my heart, I know that for both Peter and me to live our best lives, we need to take different paths. Peter deserves to grow old in a home where he has the love, structure, and stability he needs to truly thrive.
I know finding the right home for him will not be easy, but I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure he is placed with someone who will cherish him. I cannot let him go unless I am certain he is going somewhere he will be loved, valued, and never left to wonder if he was good enough.
Peter is currently staying with my sister and her family, which includes a well-behaved German Shepherd, three young children, cats, and several farm animals.
He’s done exceptionally well in that environment, showing that he can thrive in a structured family home with the right balance of calm energy and routine.
He gets along well with other dogs—especially those that are confident and playful—and he seems to benefit from having a canine companion.
While I’d still recommend a home with children aged 5 and up, Peter has shown he can be trusted around small kids and animals when supervised. This experience has really shown how much potential he has to thrive in the right setting.
