Jax black cat adoption kansas city mo 1 (2)

Meet Jax, a black cat for adoption by owner in Kansas City Missouri. This luscious declawed Black cat is just 2.5 years old and weighs around 10 pounds. Jax has been neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and litter-box-trained. He has not been around children or other pets. He would probably do well in a home with kids 12 and up. Cat-friendly dogs should also be fine.

Jax’s owner was recently widowed and is having some difficulty caring for him. Likely due in part to having been declawed, Jax often communicates with her through “love bites“, and his owner finds this behavior frightening. She is hoping to find a new home with a more confident owner for Jax, where he will be cherished and kept safe, happy, and healthy for the rest of his life. He is a very special cat and deserves a loving home with owners who understand cat behavior and will not be put off by the occasional, gentle love bite from Jax.

Jax will be rehomed with all supplies and vet records. Adopt this very special black cat in Kansas City today.

Jax is eating Sheba currently. Chicken and turkey pate varieties only.

Before my husband became critically ill, I had been switching him over to a raw diet and was about halfway there. But I stopped the transition when it became too difficult to manage along with long hospital visits and I have not started it again. I provide a pet water fountain and he seems to drink enough.

Jax is on a 5 small meals/day feeding schedule. I can’t free-feed because he overeats. I estimate he is about a pound overweight currently. maybe 2. I’m trying to keep his calories at about 180. He was starting to slim down with the part raw food diet, but since returning to the all wet food diet, he has gained again even with the low calories. I was feeding a better quality wet food (Tiki Cat shreds) but he’s become picky and stopped eating it, preferring the smooth pate of Sheba. He will still eat the Tiki Cat pate, but it’s hard to find the foul and game varieties.

Jax’s Personality

Jax black cat adoption kansas city mo 1 (2)

Jax started out his time with us as a very frightened soul. He wailed the whole car ride home from the shelter and it took two weeks for him to be ready to leave his safe room, although he was affectionate and social during that time, but still very scared.

He was particularly scared of strange men. He has since relaxed and owns the house and seemingly me as well. He loves to be in whatever room I am in. Most of the time, he will find a place to sleep or recline near me and seems content with that.

He is very social and has many beautiful soft vocalizations. He seems to enjoy adoration from me and visitors. He is there to greet me whenever I come back into the house, even if it’s only been a few minutes spent outside. He patiently waits to be let into my room in the mornings, he doesn’t call. But he has a routine.

After a leg-rub greeting, he heads to my dressing room to play with the kitty ball track tower. He might spend 10 minutes or more batting the balls around. Then he leads me downstairs for breakfast. He loves stroking but only on his own terms. Head and neck and maybe along the top of his back, but the belly is off-limits. He will roll and present his belly, but it must not be touched.

He is inquisitive and patrols the whole house daily. He will also sit for hours on window sills watching the birds and squirrels, or nap there in the sun. His play is explosive and his playstyle is stalk & pounce, or dig out the prey. He is less interested in chasing type play but does briefly respond to feather toys with a few bursts of speed. His preferred spot in any room is the middle of the floor, or wherever you have to step over him the most.

He can be demanding and persists in his attempts to engage you until he gets some kind of response. For the most part, his disposition is sweet and affectionate. Even when he is demanding, his demeanor is not aggressive, just insistent.

I know the above picture doesn’t convey how very sweet he is most of the time, but he really is a very wonderful, intelligent, and complex soul that can be lots of fun to be around. He just needs the right person, and that person is not me. I just have not been able to figure out how to mitigate the biting.

I think he has been a completely indoor cat. He is not interested in going outside and has not ever rushed the door. So he has not been a flight risk.

He may be fine with other animals, children, etc….we just don’t know. In the time he has been with us, he has encountered only adults.

Why is Jax Being Rehomed?

Because the biting can not always be predicted, I find I am always on guard in my own home, not knowing when the next instance will be. I don’t feel it’s safe to sleep with my bedroom door open. While Jax is a very social, affectionate soul most of the time, this behavior keeps me on guard and prevents me from relaxing in my own space.

Also, there has been a major life change in our house with my husband’s death this summer. Oddly, Jax never bit him, only me. Jax was a wonderful companion to him in his last days but is a source of stress to me now as I’m trying to find my way in this new season of my life.

Jax and his owner live in Kansas City Missouri, close to the following towns and cities in Missouri, and Kansas:
