I came into this world all legs, curls, and uncertainty. The first time my person met me, I was a frozen little floof, too scared to wag, too worried to breathe. I didn’t know yet that love could come in the form of a human crouching on the floor with soft eyes and gentler hands. But I know it now.
I know a lot more now, actually.
I know that stuffed animals are just puzzles with squeaky prizes inside. I know that frozen peanut butter balls are the pinnacle of fine dining. I know that running off-leash and swimming in a quiet lake are almost better than cuddles. Almost.
And I know that despite my big goofy smile, my Elvis-curl lip, and my deep-down desire to be your shadow… I’m not always the easiest guy to love. Not because I don’t try — believe me, I try. But because I feel everything. Loud sounds, fast movements, surprises, change — they all rattle my little nervous system like a maraca at a toddler’s birthday party.
My person has done so much for me. She’s poured her heart into my training. She’s loved me through shaky starts and shaky middles. But she’s also come to understand something really brave: sometimes love means letting go, when someone else might be able to offer you more peace.
So here I am, searching for my next chapter — and maybe my forever one.
I’m not a “take me to the brewery” kind of dog. I’m not going to thrive in chaos or crowds or homes with little kids who move like caffeinated squirrels (though I do like kids — from a respectful distance).
But if you have a quiet home and a big heart… if you find joy in gentle routines and long walks that don’t involve surprises… if you think of dogs as soulful companions, not circus performers…
I could be your guy.
I’d love a yard, a doggy best friend (preferably gentle and goofy like me), and a soft-spoken human or two who get that being sensitive isn’t a flaw — it’s just a different kind of magic.
My person is sending me off with everything: my toys, my treats, my meds, my crate, my winter boots (I’m Calgarian, after all), and a whole team of people who love me and want to help me land gently. My groomer, walker, vet — they’re all on standby to support you.
This isn’t just a rehoming. It’s a handing off of something very precious — me.
So if you read all this and felt something stir… if you thought, “That sounds like the kind of love I’m ready for”… please reach out.
I’m waiting here with my big brown eyes and my slightly lopsided smile, ready to meet the person who sees me for all I am — and loves me even more because of it.
Apply to adopt me today. I’m Gus. And I already kind of love you.

5 Amazing Things About Gus:
- His Kind Heart – Gus is truly one of the gentlest souls I’ve ever met. He’s sensitive, caring, and if a dog could be described as kind, that would be him.
- His Love of Learning – He thrives in training, picking things up quickly with enthusiasm. He’s polite, obedient, and genuinely enjoys engaging his brain.
- His Playful Spirit – Gus adores playing with other dogs, especially those with a soft, friendly style like his. He would thrive in a home with a big yard and a canine buddy for games and companionship.
- His Perfect Cuddles – With his soft, teddy bear-like fur and affectionate nature, cuddling with Gus is pure comfort and joy.
- His Big, Goofy Smile – He’s full of personality, often grinning with a one-sided Elvis curl or a full happy-dog smile. Gus brings lightness and fun to everyday life.
Gus’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do.
They are hoping to find the right home where this deserving dog will be loved unconditionally and kept safe, happy, healthy and well-cared-for.
If you have room in your heart and home for Gus, then please offer a loving, forever home today. Gus can’t wait to show you the true meaning of unconditional love.

He benefits from calm, quiet environments, predictable routines, and owners who are experienced with anxious or high-strung dogs.
To support his emotional regulation, Gus takes a daily dose of Prozac, which has made a meaningful difference in helping him settle more easily.
He is also not neutered, based on guidance from both his veterinarian and a behaviorist. Removing testosterone could negatively impact his confidence and mental well-being. He has shown no aggression, interacts well with other dogs, and a vasectomy should be planned for this year. I can provide the name of a clinic that performs them.

Gus’s Personality
Gus is a highly sensitive and emotionally attuned Bernedoodle with a deep need for connection, calm, and predictability. He’s intelligent and thrives on structure and training, loyal, and very loving once he feels safe.
He forms strong bonds with his people. Gus thrives in peaceful environments with gentle leadership and clear routines. While he’s playful and curious, he’s also deeply affected by overstimulation and benefits from a slower pace of life.
He’s not a high-energy dog, but he needs thoughtful daily outlets for his mind and body. Gus is soulful, expressive, and full of heart.
Gus’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?
Gus’s Favorite Things
Toys & Chews
Gus loves deconstructing stuffed animals, especially if they squeak! He’s also a big fan of chewing on sticks and soft tug toys. He’s not destructive in general, but give him a plush toy and he’ll happily “perform surgery” for hours.
Food & Treats
Gus has a sensitive stomach and does best with a consistent diet. Beef is a no-go, and too much variety or too many treats at once can upset his tummy. He thrives on a specific food that works incredibly well for him and should ideally stay on it long-term. His all-time favorite treat? Frozen peanut butter and pumpkin balls.
Activities & Adventures
Gus loves being outside. His absolute favorite things are off-leash running and swimming, he’s recently learned how to swim and it’s pure joy for him. That said, he can easily become overstimulated if play goes on too long (20–30 minutes is his sweet spot). When over-aroused, he can become restless or get digestive upset, so balance is key.
He also enjoys calm leash walks, hiking, trail running, and light jogs (under 5km). A big yard, gentle one-on-one dog play, and chances to greet other dogs on walks make him the happiest.
Cute Gus Story:
Gus’s best friend in the whole world is a gentle female standard poodle he’s known since he was just 13 weeks old. They have the most beautiful bond- when they play, it’s joyful and nonstop, and when they rest, they insist on doing it together.
They’ll collapse in a heap, front paws entwined, bodies spooning, gently licking each other’s faces until they either drift off to sleep or are ready for another round of play. Their dog walker (who’s been part of Gus’s life since puppyhood) lovingly facilitates these playdates, and it would mean so much if she could remain part of his world. Watching their friendship is like witnessing pure, uncomplicated love, and it’s just one of the many things that make Gus so special.
Why is Gus Being Rehomed?
When I brought Gus home at 10 weeks, he was shut down, too scared to wag, play, or leave his kennel. Over time, with patience, training, and deep emotional investment, he’s grown into a curious, affectionate, and deeply bonded dog.
But even after all our work, Gus remains highly sensitive, jumpy, and easily overstimulated. He startles easily, regardless of how safe or familiar his environment is, and that level of reactivity can be hard to live with, especially for someone who’s also sensitive.
He does best with calm, low-arousal routines, gentle leadership, and someone who understands the needs of a nervous system-sensitive dog. While I’ve brought him a long way, what I’d call 165 degrees of progress out of 180, we both still exist in a state of emotional hyper-awareness that feeds into each other.
It’s been difficult to admit, but our bond has become a loop of stress and dysregulation. I love him deeply, but I believe he deserves a home where his system can finally rest, and where mine can, too.
Gus already has a loving team around him who would be happy to stay involved and help support a smooth transition. His groomer, who’s known him since 14 weeks old, his dog walker/sitter, and his veterinarian team all care about him deeply and can provide both continuity and support to a new guardian. With the right match, I know Gus will be able to settle more fully into the incredible dog he already is.
Gus’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
Gus would thrive in a calm, consistent home with a large yard and access to daily walks, ideally both morning and evening. Even with a yard he still needs daily walks or he gets really “off” and nervous.
A friendly, well-matched dog of similar size and energy would be a huge bonus, he absolutely loves soft one-on-one dog play. However, homes with young children aren’t a fit, as sudden movement and loud sounds are overwhelming for him.
Gus warms up to men but clearly prefers women, so female-led homes or couples are ideal (he’s not suited to a single-man household). Most importantly, he needs someone with a soft presence, someone who won’t take his jumpiness personally, but will see his sensitivity as part of his unique charm.
The right person for Gus is someone who understands that “high needs” can also mean “high reward”, someone who sees him for who he is and gives him the safety to stay that way.
Gus is a truly special dog with so much love to give. While he has some unique needs, he also has an incredible support team, his dog walker, groomer, and vet are all familiar with his sensitivities and would love to stay involved if possible.
Because Gus thrives in training, I highly recommend his new family continue working with Clever Canines, the training team who knows him well. Their understanding of his personality and needs makes them an ideal resource to help build trust, strengthen your bond, and start off on the right foot together.
I’m committed to supporting a smooth transition and will provide his care routines, favorite enrichment ideas, food recommendations, and behavior notes. For the right person, Gus will be an incredibly rewarding and loyal companion.
