Orange Tabby Cat Adoption Spruce Grove AB 1

Meet Rin, Orange Tabby Cat For Adoption in Spruce Grove AB

With her delicately colored Apricot coat and matching eyes, Rin has to be one of the prettiest Orange Tabby cats in Edmonton. Aged 11, Rin has been spayed and litter box trained. She is the perfect cat in the wrong setting, which has made it necessary for her owner to look for a better situation for Rin. She and Rin started out by themselves, and she was an absolutely amazing cat, so loving and cuddly.

Unfortunately, as the number of people and pets in her home have increased, Rin has become anxious and obviously unhappy. There have been problems with inappropriate elimination. Rin gets picked on by the other cats in the home, which is likely why she has been peeing in various places in the home. She had perfect litter box use before when she was an only pet, and once in a new home where she can be the cherished center of her owner’s world, Rin should go back to her earlier ways.

Age of Pet: 11 years in August

No major medical issues but has a dirty ear that bothers her sometimes that started recently, but checking has been a struggle.
Behavior Issues: Yes
Rin is a very anxious cat and expresses this by peeing on things that have been left out or on the floor; for example – clothes left on the ground, blankets on the ground and when the kitty litter wasn’t super duper clean once she peed on the front door mat.
Rin’s anxiety has gotten worse and worse throughout the years and recently with the birth of our daughter, she has seemed to spiral. She is particularly not fond of other cats as she tends to get picked on, and does not enjoy playing with them.
I think she would thrive in a single cat, older kid home.
Gets along with: Older Children, Dogs
Pet is: Spayed, Litter Trained
Food: Other
Rin eats Neutrience senior cat food (usually chicken but we switch up the flavor when we can for variety) and we usually do about 1/2 or so a day with a few treats. She is a little chubby so we try not to give her too many high calorie treats.

Rin’s Personality

Well I put a lot of detail in the section about our story, but to reiterate, Rin has some stress and anxiety issues which makes her very shy and nervous at first. But once she is given time to acclimate she warms up and LOVES pets and attention and so many snuggles and cuddles.
She doesn’t travel well at all (and one of the reasons why she hasn’t been to a vet in many years – I feel guilty about this regardless, but it really does throw her off for quite a few days)

When I moved in with my now husband 4 years ago, it took her about a week to finally relax and hang out on the back of the couch and settle in like it was actually her home. Perhaps even a couple days passed that to be truly relaxed and comfortable. For the first couple of days she hides and slinks around and you can tell she is frazzled.

And then she will begin to come out more, check things out instead of hiding away somewhere, and gradually get to know her surroundings until she starts to feel safe. While its hard earned at first, once you get passed this first bit, she’s really a delight to be around. she has the cutest purr and when she is really content (usually when she is hanging out next to someone on the couch) she has this adorable squeak to her purr.

She loves cat nip and will never leave your side as long as your petting her.
She really just lives to be loved, and if it weren’t for her excessive nervousness, she would be the worlds easiest cat.

I don’t know if this is possible, but if it is, I would really love to be able to receive updates and news about Rin after we find her a new home. If this is an option, I would really appreciate it.
We have been together for so long and this is so hard for both of us, and I would just like to know she’s happy.

I’d also like to state that if she is rehomed and it doesn’t work out, I am willing to take her back in until we find her another home again or what have you. I want to make sure she doesn’t end up in a shelter or rescue and goes somewhere she can be loved for the rest of her life instead of being stressed out all the time.

Why is Rin Being Rehomed?

I struggled for a very long time to come to this decision and we tried everything we could to make our situation work for her, but at the end of the day, as much as I don’t want to rehome her, I know that it is the right thing to do – for her most of all.

Rin was born in the house that I had been living in years ago and we have been through a lot. For a long time, it was just her and I. And if it had remained this way I don’t think that she would have had any problems at all. But over the years it went from just the two of us, to the three of us, and then four and now we have a very big family with our daughter as our newest addition. Rin has had some major anxiety issues that have increasingly gotten worse as she has gotten older. Particularly, she has a very low tolerance for other cats, especially young cats or kittens with energy that want to play with her. She’s an easy target unfortunately. And she has expressed her stress and anxiety by peeing on things. For example; clothes, blankets, and once she even got our door mat. I want to stress that when she was an only cat with Coraline (my big, gentle giant dog) and myself, she had literally no problems at all. (Except that one time I tried to get a self cleaning litterbox…because getting a motorized litter box for my anxious cat was obviously a good idea. lol)

Most recently, and after the last couple years of trying countless things to make Rin happier and less stressed, Rin has started to pee on my daughters things. And that is just a line that I can’t have crossed. It was one thing thing for it to occasionally happen to our things, even if it was frustrating, because it wasn’t very often that it occurred, but ever since my daughter has come home, we have seen an increase in this behavior and most of it has been on her things such as her play pen, her chair, and recently even a toy.

Having a baby in a barely maintained peace for this anxious girl has just pushed her over the edge and I don’t believe that we can give her the life that she needs to be happy and content for the years that she has left. Its not fair to her and it certainly isn’t something that we can have happen with our little girl.

So it breaks my heart to say that we need to find a home for her where she can find some peace and happiness. I believe a single cat home is the best idea for Rin, although she does get along great with dogs – her and my dog have been besties ever since I brought my pup home. (Coraline is also a calm and cat-respectful dog and they enjoyed snuggles rather than rough housing of any sort – I feel the need to stress this.) And while I don’t think Rin actually gets stressed out by kids and it could just be the straw that broke the camel’s back in our case, I think an older-kid home or kidless home would be best for her.

She has so many snuggles and so much love to give and I really want to find her somewhere she can relax and be happy the way she deserves. Outside of our current issue, she really is such a sweet cat and once she settles in and relaxes she is the cuddliest cat and loves nothing more than to snuggle in on the couch or all night in bed.

I really am so heart broken that I have to do this and I really hope we can find a home for her with someone who will love her the way I do and more…and maybe an even let me know how she’s doing down the road maybe.
