Meet Kali – A Potcake Pup with Personality Plus!

Kali isn’t just any dog—she’s a Potcake, a unique mixed-breed pup native to the Caribbean, known for their intelligence, loyalty, and one-of-a-kind charm. Named after the crusty “potcake” of rice and peas islanders once fed to strays, Potcakes are beloved for their resilience and heart—and Kali is a perfect example of why.

She came into her family’s life like something out of a movie. One day, while a high school track team was out for a run, Kali—dirty, skinny, and determined—ran up alongside one of the runners and would not leave his side. She had clearly been on the street for a while, but her spirit never dimmed. She picked her people, and they couldn’t resist. Now spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, Kali’s ready for her forever home.

This medium-sized, 1-year-old sweetheart is affectionate, playful, and hilarious. Her signature move? Tossing her favorite rope toy into the air and catching it mid-spin like a one-dog circus act. She’s gentle when taking treats, full of kisses, and loves to wrestle—gently. She’ll walk or jog beside you like a champ or curl up at your feet after playtime. She loves people, dogs, cats—everyone she meets.

Like most pups her age, Kali is still learning the ropes. Left alone too long, she might chew on a cardboard box or plush toy. But she’s very smart and eager to learn—she’s already mastered sit, stay, and walks beautifully on leash. She’ll also let you know when someone’s at the door with a good bark, then settle down when told.

Kali would thrive in a home where she can get plenty of exercise, affection, and maybe even a canine buddy or two. Her ideal person has the time and heart to finish her training and let her shine.

1. She’s the cutest dog you could ever want — her face is the best. Her white paws are a nice touch.
2. She’s really smart. She picked up Sit, Stay, leash training, etc very quickly.
3. She gives kisses. All the kisses you can handle.
4. She’s a nice guard dog, but a controllable one. She’ll give a good bark when a stranger is at your door, but she’ll calm down when you tell her to.
5. She can walk and run for days. If you like to exercise, she would love to keep pace.

Kali’s owners are very sad to have to rehome their cherished dog, but circumstances beyond their control have made rehoming a must-do.

Kali’s Personality

She’s friendly, playful, and affectionate. She loves attention and will take as much of it as you will give. She’s very gentle — hand her a bone or food, and she will take it from your hand VERY carefully. If you want to wrestle she will try…up to a point. She’d rather just be petted! She enjoys retrieving some, but her top toy is a rope toy that she picks up and tosses into the air herself, then catches it and runs around the yard. She’s quite silly that way.

Kali’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

She loves bones, rope toys, playing fetch, and gentle wrestling. She will eat anything you give her, especially scraps of meat. She enjoys hopping in the back of your truck if you have one, or being put on a leash and going to the park. She loves playing with other dogs.

Cute Kali Story:

She came to us as a stray — our son’s best friend was running with the school track team, and Kali came up alongside him and would not let him out of her sight. She clearly had been on the street a long time — she was very dirty and hungry. She won us over that day and wanted to stay, and we let her. We got her chipped, vaxxed, and spayed. But our life circumstances quickly changed, and we can no longer keep her.

Why is Kali Being Rehomed?

We moved to be closer to our jobs, and Kali doesn’t work with our new house or schedule.

Kali’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Someone to love this precious dog. Someone who can finish her training and give her exercise. Ideally, someone with other pets — she seems to love everyone she meets, whether human or animal.
