Looking for a Standard Poodle dog for adoption in Calgary, AB? Emmy would love to be considered for the position of your cherished family companion.

Emmy – The Gentle Little Lady with the Big Poodle Heart

Location: Calgary, AB
Breed: Standard Poodle (but in a petite 38-lb package)
Age: 10 years young

If there’s one word that sums up Emmy, it’s grace. Not the kind you find in fancy dog shows — though with those long legs and that bouncy poodle gait, she could easily take home a ribbon or two. No, Emmy’s grace is the quiet, everyday kind. The kind that pads softly beside you on an early-morning walk. The kind that curls up neatly at your feet while you sip tea. The kind that looks at you with eyes so kind, you swear she knows every thought you’ve ever had about love, loss, and second chances.

Emmy is, quite simply, the kind of dog who makes you slow down and breathe.

She’s also got a secret silly streak — that classic Poodle sparkle that pops out when you least expect it. Her favorite game isn’t fetch, it’s “let’s pretend we’re going to fetch.” She’ll chase the ball once or twice, then decide sniffing the breeze is far more interesting. She has what her late dad lovingly called “the zoomies of dignity” — short, joyful bursts of energy followed by a satisfied flop and an expression that says, Well, that was quite enough excitement for one day, thank you.

Emmy’s story is a tender one. She belonged to a man who adored her — a lifelong poodle person who gave her the world. When he passed away unexpectedly, Emmy’s human family stepped in without hesitation. They have cared for her deeply, but with two small children and full-time jobs, they know Emmy deserves more time, more walks, and more quiet companionship than they can give. Letting her go isn’t an act of abandonment; it’s one of love — the kind that puts a beloved pet’s happiness ahead of one’s own heartache.

She’s wonderfully gentle, endlessly polite, and still full of life. Emmy walks beautifully on leash (well, except when there’s a new friend to meet), sleeps soundly in her crate, and greets every day with optimism and that signature Poodle poise. She has no health concerns, though she does appreciate a little help keeping her teeth clean — after all, a lady must maintain her smile.

And she’s got her quirks, of course. Like the time she vanished for three whole hours during a house clean-out. The family panicked, scouring the neighborhood, posting on Facebook, calling animal control — only to find her calmly napping in the front hall closet, door slightly ajar. When they opened it, Emmy blinked sleepily as if to say, Oh, were you looking for me? I was meditating.

That’s Emmy — serenity in a world that’s too loud.

Now, she’s looking for her next great love story: a person or family who wants a true companion, a walking buddy, a heart-healer. Someone who will laugh when she insists on carrying her leash, who won’t mind brushing her soft curls, and who will see her not as a “senior,” but as a soul in her golden prime — ready to make the rest of your days infinitely warmer.

If you’ve ever longed for a dog who makes your house feel like home just by being in it, Emmy is your girl.

Apply today to meet her — and bring a little more grace, laughter, and quiet joy into your life.

Emmy’s Personality

Emmy is bright, vivacious and bouncy! She has great energy and loves to cuddle. She is loving, loyal, quiet and a nice, small size for a Standard. She is a purebred poodle from a long line of healthy dogs. Emmy loves to walk, run, and play. She is used to living with another dog and has spent a lot of time with younger and older kids. She loves any and all people! She sleeps in a crate at night and does very well in the car. She does not shed, but does need to have her teeth brushed 3-4 times weekly to maintain oral health. She has no known health issues and loves to run and play like a dog half her age. Emmy belonged to our Dad who recently passed away unexpectedly.

Emmy’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Emmy loves to go for a walk and be outside. She will chase a ball and return it, but she would rather sniff and explore. She does fairly well off-leash but does sometimes pull on her leash if she sees another person or dog she would like to meet. Gentle reminders not to pull work well for her. Given her age, she doesn’t have crazy energy, but she does love to go for walks. She is happy with one longer walk or 2 shorter walks every day. She loves to curl up in her bed and have a good long snooze after a walk. She is not super food motivated, but does enjoy a treat. She eats 3/4 cup of dry food twice per day.

Cute Emmy Story:

Emmy is so quiet! She rarely barks. In the midst of preparing my late Dad’s house to sell, she ended up in the hallway coat closet for 3 hours. We thought we had lost her! We were certain she had disappeared. We called and called for her, checked every room in the house, and then determined she had somehow gotten out of the yard and gone off in search of my Dad. We had every neighbour scouting the neighbourhood looking for her, posts all over Facebook, calls in to the police and Humane Society. After 3 hours, here she was laying quietly in the front hall coat closet, with the door slightly ajar. She could have come out or barked, but she just decided to have a nap in a nice quiet den 🙂

Why is Emmy Being Rehomed?

Emmy belonged to my Dad, who has had Standard Poodles his whole life. My Dad recently passed unexpectedly and due to our own personal circumstances, we are not able to keep Emmy with us in our home. This has been an extremely hard decision for us as she is such a wonderful, loving dog. We are hopeful that Emmy can find a loving, warm family who will cherish her sweet personality and love her energy. Emmy has always lived with at least one other poodle, and she is used to having a canine companion. Currently, she is living in our home with 2 very young children and does extremely well with them.

Emmy’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

We would love Emmy to go to a loving home with folks who are looking for a companion and can give her the time, energy and love that she deserves. She loves to snuggle and cuddle and absolutely loves to go for walks, even short little walks! An adoptive family who can give her the time and energy she deserves would be great.

We are open to staying connected on Emmy’s journey with her new family, as she is a wonderful connection to our Dad, but we understand if that is not possible.
