My name is Bexley and I am a wonderful senior Yellow Labrador Retriever looking for a quiet, child-free home near Indianapolis Indiana. I am a very sweet boy. At 12 years young, I have been fixed, and am up to date on my shots. I weigh 80 pounds, and I am a clean and well behaved dog. I am house trained, and I walk well on a leash.

So you are probably puzzled about why such a great dog as I is looking for a new home, aren’t you. Well, my owners are very concerned about the quality of my life. I am very anxious around small children, and with the arrival of little people in my home over the last few years, my anxiety has gotten worse and worse.

I cope with my fear and anxiety by licking my paws and legs. I do this so much these days, that I have managed to lick almost all the fur off of my legs in some spots. I used to be on Prozac to control my anxiety, but the drug made me feel very tired, and I would not want to go on walks.

My owners love me so much! Out of love for me, they are dearly hoping to find a good, quiet, adults only home where I will get lots of attention and cuddles, without having to deal with the unpredictable nature of living with small children.

He’s had dog beds in the past, but isn’t really picky about that because we have carpeting throughout most of the home. He’s pretty much grown out of toys, so we pretty much have his collar & leash, food, & bowls to provide.

Bexley’s Current Home Environment

Small 3 bedroom 2 bath ranch with a small yard in a large neighborhood. Non smoking house. My wife & I have been together for 12 years & we got Bexley as a puppy for her birthday after we started dating. We now have 3 kids ranging from 6 yrs old to 10 months.

Why is Bexley Being Rehomed?

With each child, Bexley’s anxiety has gotten worse. After the newest baby he started licking the fur off of his legs so much that they would bleed. We’ve put him on Fluoxetine twice, but decided to take him back off because it made him very lethargic.

The licking is still an issue so we wrap his legs if it gets too bad. He is not interested in taking long walks anymore, & things like sneezes cause him to leave the room. My wife & I have just become too busy to show him the attention he deserves & wonder if he could have a happier life somewhere else.

I think he has quite a bit of life left in him & would like for him to enjoy it more than he seems to be now here with us.

Bexley’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Someone who loves dogs, has more time to spend with him than we can provide right now, & maybe a nice yard to play in. Another dog may help, but I’m not sure at his age how much he cares about playing with others. It just seems like it’s been a while since we’ve seen that side of him.

Additional Comments:

It is not imperative that the new owner stay in touch with us, but it would be nice to know if the change has helped him have a better life. I think that should be up to the new owner. All we want is for him to be happy.
