Happy, rambunctious, playful. Loves routine – I get up at 4:15 every morning – he is beside the bed, waiting for me. First thing is to go outside, then a small breakfast. He then goes back to bed. He is kennel trained.

He and my husband pal around the rest of the day. When I get home from work, he goes out and then has dinner. After I get the kitchen cleaned up from our dinner, he gets a “bully stick” – he has to be down – then I let him have it. He gets a treat before bed and then into the kennel.

I usually let him out of the kennel around midnight – I want him able to hear and alert me if there is someone in the yard, at the door, in the driveway, etc. He is fully house trained – we have 4 cats – 3 males and 1 female. He loves the boys and they love him – they sleep together, play together.

The female cat gives him a wide berth. He would love to play with her, but she’s not having it. Brutus loves to play ball, frisbee, fetch – all of that stuff. He knows some commands – if you say “drop it”, he will place the ball at your feet. I can “down” him at one end of my yard and walk to the other – he will wait for me to say “Brutus – come!” and he will come running.

He spend a month at Nashville K9 – they told me that he is not dog aggressive. We have a smaller, old beagle/chihuahua female. She hates Brutus and he lets her be in charge.

Food and Diet

Brutus - Catahoula Mix For Adoption in Nashville 4Brutus is currently on Other

I use Acana – it is an Orijen product but a little less expensive. Brutus gets about 3/4 cup in the morning around 4:30 and then about 2 cups at night around 6:30 or so. He always has fresh water.

Reason For Rehoming

My husband is disabled and his health is declining. We have a large fenced back yard. My husband has begun falling – a lot. Today he fell down the stairs while going to let Brutus out the back door to use the bathroom in the backyard.

I still work outside the home. I can’t take a chance that my husband will fall while tending to the dog. My husband also wears a “Life Alert” button – I am also concerned that if a EMS worker has to come into the house and I’m not here, Brutus might be aggressive since it would be a stranger.

We are truly broken hearted to have to even consider this, but I can’t quit my job since my insurance is through my employer. This is an awful situation to be in – we love this old dog and he is a great companion to my husband – they sit on the couch, side by side, all day long.

I also feel safe that no one will come into the house with this big dog barking. I just feel that my husband is in no shape to be letting this dog in and out, dealing with stairs in his current state.
