Meet Milly, Boxer Dog For Adoption in Maplewood MN

Milly is a very intelligent dog. She has gone through Obedience Training, and knows quite a few commands. Because of her high level of intelligence, Milly can become anxious in certain situations. She is a beautiful 2 year old Boxer who is a devoted playful friend, but she has issues with being competitive and sometimes troublesome around other dogs or young unpredictable children.  Her owner is starting a new family and has other dogs in the home as well, so she feels this would be a good time to find  a better home situation for this beautiful dog. Milly is clever and playful, but  loud children playing can be confusing to her and toddlers scare her and make her bark at them.

The very best scenario for her forever home will be with with active seniors, retired dog lovers or people who work from home, who live a quiet life in the country or suburbs. Milly thrives on a routine, where she knows what to expect as the day goes on. She needs to be an only pet in a home without small children or a lot of visitors. She needs somebody who has lots of time to spend with Milly every day, because she is only 2 years old, she wants some regular exercise and enjoys playing in the yard only if she has somebody to play with her and keep her out of mischief.

Like all intelligent dogs, Milly does not enjoy being left alone and wants to do what you are doing or just hanging out with you as a couch potato. She adores hiking, stick chasing, playing frisbee, chew toys, squeaky toys, sun bathing, cuddles and will make you laugh out loud a dozen times a day. In the right situation, she’ll be the best friend that you ever had.  If you can walk her early, she will be OK with being lazy or alone for work hours afterwards. Exercise and play really do help her relax. Like most 2 year old dogs, it is an important part of her daily routine and helps her feel close to you.

Note: Milly has some anxiety issues with loud noises, crates make her nervous and upset, but she likes sleeping on the bed with you or under a blanket for safety and warmth on a chair or couch – still she will sleep on her own bed when you tell her to. She will only do her “potty business” outside. In a lot of ways, Milly depends on her owner to be a major part of her day – but she gives back so much love and adoration that she’ll always make you feel special.

Milly will be rehomed with supplies and veterinary records – a ready to love pet.  Adopt Milly today.

Cute Milly Story:

We were at the dog park and all the dogs where ahead of us running down the narrow path, one by one they where jumping into the river on the right of the path. I could tell Milly was thinking about following them in even from watching her from behind.

Her ears were perking up and she kept turning her head towards the water and looking back at me as if asking for permission. I called out to her and said, Don’t even think about it!! And she lowered her ears as if in disappointment and kept running down the path.

I went through a divorce and was utterly devastated. There where times where I would just simply start crying, and to my surprise, Milly would walk up to me and lick my face, and curl up next to me and look into my eyes. Other times where I was sad, she would jump her front paws up on my shoulders as if to give me a big hug. All these times I never called her or sought out for her comfort, she simply just knew.

Why is Milly Being Rehomed?

Milly is not good with young, small kids. My family is planning on having kids in the very near future and we fear she may not be able to adjust to the new family member.

Milly also does not do well with the other dog siblings in the house. There have been fights that have been progressively been intense. We have worked with her and had her since she was a little over 2 months old. We have finished level 1 obedience with the Canine Coach, and we have a dedicated, extremely thoughtful, experienced Bark buster trainer that helps us at home for the life of Milly.

We have already separated another one of my dogs, and we currently now have Milly and our youngest dog in house but living on separate floors. We feel despite all our training efforts, we can’t be the strong leader Milly needs to help her with her confidence. There have been too many fights to feel safe.

Our greatest fear is that she does not like young kids. With an infant coming along to an already stressful situation, we fear she may never be able to cope, nor will we have the time to help her. She is also the most loving and affectionate out of all the other dogs, and we hope that with the right home, she will be able to thrive and live a happier life.

Milly’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

A normally active family that can give Milly regular exercise. An experienced owner who will not waiver at the sign of Milly’s nervousness or reactivity. Someone who will be devoted to her and accept her as a part of the family, not just another pet.

Someone who will be able to spend time with Milly, let her sleep indoors, be semi supervised when outside and not left alone for a long periods of time. Milly should also be the only dog/pet in the household due to her jealousy, nervousness and fear, and her prey drive. Someone who lives a quieter life style and does not have many visitors over.

Additional Comments:

Milly likes to be covered or tucked in under blankets for safety and warmth. She prefers sleeping on the bed with you, but she also knows when you tell her to sleep on her bed.

  • Loud noises scare her
  • Car rides are not her favorite thing, but she will tolerate it because she knows it usually means adventure.
  • She does not like carwashes
  • Camping stresses her out-all the noises make her restless
  • She likes Men
  • She does well alone for a whole work day as long as exercised
  • She only potties outside
  • Crates make her nervous/stressed
  • She plays very well with puppies
  • She has great recall, and usually doesn’t wander off too far when off leash
