Tommy, a 5 pound longhaired chihuahua dog for adoption in calgary airdrie ab

Looking for a Chihuahua dog for adoption in Airdrie, Alberta? Tommy would love to be considered for the position of your cherished family companion.

Tommy’s Tiny Heart, Big Love: A Chihuahua’s Search for His Forever Lap

If you’ve ever felt the soft weight of a five-pound dog snuggled into the small of your back like a fuzzy, breathing hot water bottle — you already know love. If not, allow me to introduce you to Tommy.

Tommy is a longhaired Chihuahua with the soul of a poet and the clinginess of an electric blanket. He’s four years old, weighs about as much as your average toaster, and carries within that tiny chest a heart far too big for his pint-sized body. Tommy doesn’t just like to be with his person — he needs it. Not in a needy way (okay, maybe a little), but in a way that makes you feel chosen, adored, and protected by a tiny, yappy knight in furry armor.

Tommy wasn’t always this way. He was once the constant, steadfast companion of a deeply loved woman — a mother, a grandmother, a warrior in her own right — who found solace and strength in Tommy’s snuggles during long days of limited mobility. He was her shadow, her comfort, her reason to smile when her body betrayed her. When she passed, Tommy didn’t just lose his person — he lost his anchor. But he found a soft landing with her loving family, especially two teenage girls who became his new orbit. And oh, did he orbit. Like a satellite in a cozy sweater.

Tommy worships those girls like they invented peanut butter. He trails behind them like he’s their security detail, dives under blankets to find them when they vanish from his view, and will bark his brave little heart out if anyone so much as thinks about entering their room unannounced. (What? He’s just doing his job. Tiny dog. Big responsibility.)

Now, let’s be honest: Tommy isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. He prefers a tight-knit emotional circle, and if you’re not in it, he’ll let you know — possibly with a warning bark or even a nip if you push your luck. He’s not the guy who’s going to win over your entire dinner party. He’s the guy who bonds with one or two lucky souls and makes them feel like royalty. In fact, he’s a lot like your most loyal friend who only texts you back but ignores the group chat.

His current family loves him — truly. But between rental restrictions, a household full of cats (three, to be exact), a busy working mom, and Tommy’s understandable difficulty adjusting to a less stable life, they’ve had to make the incredibly hard decision to help him find a new home. It’s not about blame. It’s about love — the kind that does what’s best for the one you care about, even when your heart breaks doing it.

Tommy’s ideal home? One with a quieter rhythm. Maybe a semi-retired person or someone who works from home and can make space for a lap-warmer with opinions. Kids? He’s good with them — he’ll probably pick a favorite and make them feel like the center of the universe. Other pets? He’s okay with cats, but he hasn’t had much time with dogs, so it would need to be the right fit.

He’s not fully house-trained yet, but he is crate-trained and eager to please the people he loves. With patience, a bit of structure, and a lot of cuddles, Tommy has the potential to be the best little co-pilot your couch has ever seen.

So if you’re someone who finds joy in the quiet moments, who has space in your heart (and on your pillow) for a devoted companion with a complicated past and a devoted spirit, maybe… just maybe… you’re Tommy’s person.

And if you are? He’s ready to follow you anywhere — especially if it leads to your lap.

Tommy’s Personality

Tommy is a very loving dog. He was adopted by my family and I after my mother, his owner, had passed away. He is very attached to my two daughters 14, 15 and is comfortable with my wife but will bark at her if he is with my daughters. He is very comfortable with men, he runs away every time you try to pet him. He absolutely loves my daughters and is extremely cuddly and loving. He always needs to have someone around as his previous owner wasn’t mobile due to medical reasons and so he likes to be in a spot with someone.

Tommy’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

He likes to be right next to someone at all times. He loves to sit on your lap and needs to be right in the middle of your back at night.

Cute Tommy Story:

My mother loved Tommy with all her heart. She struggled with hip pain and then surgery and Tommy was the one thing keeping her going.

Why is Tommy Being Rehomed?

I’m struggling a lot with giving him to a new home because he loved my mom so much and he loves my daughters but we currently rent and haven’t gotten consent yet to keep have him in our home as we already have 3 cats.

As stated before he only really likes my daughters and my wife works and he will not come near me. Because he barks when someone enters my daughters room, they have become overwhelmed because he just wants them. I’d love to keep Tommy, if he was comfortable with me and our living situation was more stable we would love to keep him.

Tommy’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

I think Tommy would be great with kids. He needs someone who is home alot, maybe someone older like my mom. But he loves being at home and kids so someone who can provide that environment would be perfect
