Meet Ava, Labrador/Staffordshire Terrier Mix Dog For Adoption in Athens GAAva is a labrador retriever - staffordshire terrier mix dog for adoption in athens ga

Ava is a Female Labrador/Staffordshire Terrier Mix Dog for adoption to a very loving home in or near Athens, GA. This very special Dog is 4 years years old and weighs Medium/55 lbs pounds. She is healthy, energetic, and loves any chance to run or play or spend time with her people.

Ava is being placed for adoption by owner because work and other obligations are greatly reducing the time that is devoted to Ava.  She is a wonderful companion who needs much more “people time” and the regular exercise that she can’t get in her current home.  Ava is filled with energy and a love of life, but her owner worries that without the right situation, Ava will become bored and depressed.
The current home situation feels like this is the wrong environment for her, and her family feel very strained as well. No matter how much they love her, it is very hard to find enough time to share with her when she needs it. They end up frustrated with her, and they know it’s not her fault. She just has more energy and drive than most dogs, and we don’t know how to channel it towards the right behaviors. She’s got so much potential.

Her family feels that maybe Ava needs more obedience training, although she sits well and gets in her crate on command. Her main problem is that she just seems to get too excited when she finally gets to have some fun.
More exercise and a home where she can spend a lot of time in her own yard may be a good idea.  With intelligent dogs like Ava, boredom can be especially hard to cope with.
She is very polite with people she is familiar with, but she can hardly contain her excitement with new people. She likes to jump and bark, but she has no aggression. She pulls on the leash and is distracted by people and animals. She will eat socks and underwear if she can get to them. She had a sock removed from her intestine surgically about a year ago, and she made a full recovery.  Ava will make you laugh in a dozen ways each day as she’s still basically a puppy inside. She loves to fetch and snuggle when she’s tired. She is a joy to have around, but she really needs somebody who can be there for her more often.
A home where the owner is experienced with training a puppy or high energy dog will certainly be a great fit for Ava.

Ava’s Personality

1. She loves her owners
2. She is a blast to play with outside (fetch)
3. She likes to snuggle with people
4. She is beautiful
5. She is exciting and sweet

Ava’s Current Home Environment

We have a small house with not much land. Our yard is fenced in, which helps, but Ava could use a little more space to open up her stride. Ava stays in her crate when we are not home.

Ava’s Current Family:

We have one other dog who is getting old, and a 9-month-old son. My work has turned into a scenario that makes it near impossible for me to give Ava the attention she deserves and requires. My wife works part-time and has our son the rest of the day.

Ava’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Playing fetch on land or in water (she jumps well off of docks or platforms). Her favorite toys are tennis balls and kongs. Any other toys do not last long, and she will try to eat them. Ava also likes to cuddle with people in the evening.

Cute Ava Story:

Ava was rescued in south Georgia. Her mom was found pregnant with two other pregnant dogs abandoned in a field. All three mothers were taken in, and Ava’s mom gave birth to a litter of eight puppies two days later. My wife and I adopted her as soon as she was ready to come home with us. The whole litter was beautiful and did not take long before they were all adopted. The mother made a full recovery and got to be homed with one of her pups.

Why is Ava Being Rehomed?

Our home, time constraints, and experience keep us from helping Ava be herself and happy. It feels like this is the wrong environment for her, and we feel very strained, as well. We’ve tried and failed many times to give her what she needs. We end up frustrated with her, and we know it’s not her fault. She just has more energy and drive than most dogs, and we don’t know how to channel it towards the right behaviors. She’s got so much potential.

Ava’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Ava is a wonderful dog, and I believe she’s capable of doing high level things. She needs an experienced owner that can spend a good portion of the day with her, train, and reinforce training. She needs lots of love, companionship, and boundaries.
