Why is Winston Being Rehomed?
We adopted two litter mates at a young age and unfortunately, we just don’t have the time to train and work with each dog individually. They both deserve to be the best dogs that they can be and both should be able to have a family that can cater to their individual needs when needed, it has become a bit overwhelming for us and we don’t feel it’s fair to the dogs.
Winston’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
Preferable someone who stays at home or works from home, he is kennel trained so if they work out of the home that’s okay too. He likes to be around his people, so it would be best for him to be not left alone a lot. He would do well in a home with children as he has really become a companion to the kids, but I think he would also be a great companion to a single individual with no kids as well.
A house with a yard for him would be ideal, he wouldn’t do well in an apartment or a small space where he doesn’t have a place to roam and explore. Someone who will take the time to train. We have done basic obedience, but it has not been mastered. We have worked on sit, stay, laydown, place and crate and leave it, but he will only do so if there is a treat involved. “Leave it” tends to be the one thing that he has somewhat mastered without a treat involved.
We did try to rehome Winston with a friend which ultimately didn’t work out as their cats were less then enthused with his present. He had no issues with the cats, he was submissive and wanted to play with them but that cats just didn’t like it. The first 24 hours he whined a lot and barked but he did settle down after the first initial night. So, some patience will be needed for the first day or two. He also has accidents in the house the first day, but that became better after the first 48 hours and was going outside regularly with no issues.
